Aim: This study evaluated diet quality and its association with mental state among Croatian students during the spring and winter COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. Methods: Data were collected using an anonymous online self-reported questionnaire taken on two occasions. During the spring lockdown (from May 18 to June 7, 2020) and the winter lockdown (from December 14–22, 2020), 751 and 1188 students completed the questionnaire, respectively. Diet quality was determined using the pro-healthy diet index (pHDI) and non-healthy diet index (nHDI). Results: Although to the greatest extent associated with increased white meat, fish, and legumes intake, an increase in pHDI was also linked to increased consumption of water and sweets and decreased intake of processed meat products and nuts. Increased nHDI was ...

The term bio-psycho-social-spiritual model is sometimes used to describe this type of therapeutic approach patient-oriented medicine. This report indicates the importance of taking into account the spiritual aspect of life due to its beneficial impact on the coping resources activated and the patient’s well-being. Existential and spiritual issues are on the verge of new clinical and research interest in medicine, especially in gerontology, oncology, and palliative care. Clinicians focus not only on symptom control but also on spiritual and existential issues such as spirituality, hope, and meaning. This paper reviews the topic of spirituality in the context of illness and end-of-life care trying to define spirituality within the context of health resources of the subject. Spirituality is perceived in two of its main components: faith/religious beliefs and spiritual well-being. Especially this secon...

Individuals with ADHD often encounter difficulties in school or work performance and in peer and family relationships because they experience difficulty focusing and are overactive and impulsive. Although adolescents with ADHD show less overactive behavior than do young children with ADHD, attention deficits and impulsiveness tend to endure throughout adolescence and one-third of adolescents continue to experience major ADHD symptoms into adulthood (2). Adult ADHD may be associated with a variety of mental problems (2). © 2012 The Author(s)/Acta Paediatrica © 2012 Foundation Acta Paediatrica.

T... more Introduction: Normal weight obesity is characterized as regular BMI and excessive body fatness. This type of metabolic obesity may be observed and overlooked in polycystic ovary syndrome women (PCOS), in whom obesity and increased cardiometabolic risk are observed. There are limited data concerning eating habits and lifestyle behaviours of/in normal weight obesity PCOS women. The purpose of this study is to distinguish the food frequency intake and eating habits behaviours of PCOS women characterized by regular weight and body fatness, regular weight and excess fatness and overweight and excess body fatness. Methods: Women with PCOS (n = 149, BMI: 26 ± 6 kg/m2, aged 17–44 years) were divided into three groups according to the BMI and body fatness percentage (FM%): Regular weight and FM% (RW, n = 64), regular weight and high FM% (RWHF, n = 24) and high weight and high FM% (HWHF, n = 61). FM% was measured by air displacement plethysmography (BodPod, Life Measurement Inc, Concord, CA). ...

Purpose: To assess the attitude of secondaryschool students, high-school students, university students, and working adults towards homeless people. Materials and methods: A survey of 420 randomly selected middle school students (n=120), high school students (n=100), university students (n=100), and working adults (n=100) was conducted. Nearly half of the participants reported a fear of homeless people. Results: According to the majority of respondents, a homeless person collects scrap metal and waste paper, and also begs. The first words that come to mind when a majority of people think of the homeless were: poor, unhappy, dirty, lonely, and smelly. The participants reported the main reasons for homelessness to be: joblessness, family problems, alcohol, helplessness, and avoiding work. The...

However, the role of psychological factors in the experience of this kind of pain has not been well established. In this review, we focused on presurgical psychological factors associated with the experience of APSP. A systematic search of articles was performed using PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane and DARE. For each study, we assessed the risk of bias, the level of evidence, the corresponding score points and the degree of association with APSP. Separate meta-analyses were performed for the selected variables. Fifty-three relevant publications were selected. Pain catastrophizing, optimism, expectation of pain, neuroticism, anxiety (state and trait), negative affect and depression were classified as likely associated with APSP. Only one of the analysed psychological variableslocus of controlwas recognized as shown unlikely association with APSP. Results of meta-analyses suggested that pain catastrophizing was most strongly linked with APSP. Results of the studies reviewed suggest that patients who do not exaggerate the negative aspects of the situation and who have positive expectation of the future before undergoing surgery report lower levels of APSP than patients who catastrophize pain and expect negative events in the future. An increasing interest in preoperative positive psychological variables has been observed over the last few years in studies of surgical patients. What does this review add?: Pain catastrophizing, optimism, expectation of pain, neuroticism, anxiety (state and trait), negative affect and depression were classified as likely associated with acute postsurgical pain, and locus of control was classified as unlikely associated with acute postsurgical pain. Anxiety was the psychological variable most frequently measured before surgery. Pain catastrophizing was most strongly linked with acute postsurgical pain.

Drawings have been classified in twelve thematic groups: "aggression against things", "peer violence","violence and addiction", "family violence", "workplace violence", "on-line violence," verbal violence", the continuity of violence", difficult choices" ,and " help ". The research sample was composed of students of three Ukrainian Universities in Lviv and Chernivtsi (N=193). Each participant was asked to fill in several questionnaires, namely, the Self-Esteem Scale (SES), the Health Behaviours Inventory (IZZ), and the Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-29). The collected data were entered and analyzed using IBM SPSS 25. For all purposes, the criteria of significance were considered at p<0,01 & <0.05. Generally, according to the question's responses, subjects show adequate health resources and self-esteem. There was no significant difference in health resources in the context of the place of origin or the age of the respondents. There are differences between men and women in terms of health practices and a healthy eating style. Ukrainian young men tend to take less care of their health, however, they score higher in two of three dimensions of the sense of coherence, comparing to women. A strong correlation was found between the level of selfesteem and a healthy lifestyle, and sense of coherence. A strong link between the sense of coherence, health behaviours, and self-esteem proves that Ukrainian students have resources to deal with the stress accompanying studies at universities. It may also be viewed as a good indicator for their effective future career in the healthcare sphere. Though, men are inclined to treat their health with less responsibility and not to ask for help until the situation with their health becomes critical. Self-esteem was proved to be crucial for higher scores of the sense of coherence and a tendency to behave in a healthy manner. Further work is planned on the cultural adaptation of tools in the field of health psychology.

Balint argued that the role of the doctor or therapist requires professional medical expertise alongside specific personality predispositions and skills related to the process of building good contact with the patient. An element of professional competence is the ability to recognize the emotional state of the patient and to view and control their own mental states and consciousness in their role in which affect the relationship with the patient. One of the most effective tools for improving skills of emotional chords with the patient is to participate in group meetings conducted with the model formulated by Michael Balint. Balint groups aim is to develop the ability to effectively conduct patient and understand his own feelings as well as in the treatment process. Hospice staff, has been struggling in his work with difficult and aggravating situations related to human suffering and fear of death. Participating in Balint groups allows them to achieve the wider look at the determinants of care of dying patients and their families and to counteract the phenomenon of the burnout syndrome.
