Open trends help in facilitating free and open access to the information sources that are require... more Open trends help in facilitating free and open access to the information sources that are required by the researchers, scholars and other information seekers. The aim of the present study is to analyse the open trends that prevail in Bangladesh for providing information services. This paper is primarily based on literature review and the authors’ own viewpoints. Primarily, a substantial amount of literature has been reviewed in preparation of the study plan. The data have been gathered from Directory of Open Access Journals, BanglaJOL, Directory of Open Access Repository, Bangladesh Open Data Portal and intensively examining the institutional repository websites of Bangladesh. The necessary data about the study area were collected manually and transferred to a Microsoft Excel file for tabulation. The present study is limited within four aspects of open trend in Bangladesh for providing information services. This can be broadened further in future with other dimensions and perspectives.

Bibliometric analysis on 4,253 citations collected from doctoral dissertations submitted to vario... more Bibliometric analysis on 4,253 citations collected from doctoral dissertations submitted to various universities by the S & T workers working in the area of organic chemistry during 1977 to 1997 has been carried out to determine the use pattern of literature in the area. It is observed that major citations are from journal literature although citations from books, proceedings, patents, reports and thesis are also found. Among the citations from journal literature majority are from foreign journals. Journals from USA, UK occupies premier positions while journals from other countries are also cited. Among, the journal citations, more than 85% are from libraries' own collection of primary journals while secondary sources like Chemical Abstracts provided the rest of the citations. The half life of literature in the field of organic chemistry is found to be 27 years.

The purpose of the study is to identify the perception of the Library and Information Science (LI... more The purpose of the study is to identify the perception of the Library and Information Science (LIS) specialists about the use of mobile phones in retrieving information. It investigates the present status of the LIS specialists regarding mobile phone usage, perceptions regarding the use of mobile phones in retrieving information from libraries and points out the possible drawbacks and their solutions for embracing mobile phones in retrieving information from libraries and providing some suggestions. The methodology includes a quantitative approach. The authors used a survey method using a structured questionnaire to measure the perception of LIS specialists regarding the use of mobile phones in retrieving information from libraries. The findings confirmed that the majority (72%) of LIS specialists have the experience of using mobile phones for more than 10 years. Findings also indicate that the LIS specialists have agreed with the statements of advantages of using mobile phones. This paper concludes that the respondents also agreed regarding the possible advantages of introducing mobile phones in retrieving information from libraries. The paper explores the original perceptions of LIS specialistsregarding the use of mobile phones in retrieving information from libraries.

Objectives: The study focuses on the attitudes and extent of information literacy of students tow... more Objectives: The study focuses on the attitudes and extent of information literacy of students towards virtual learning environment in the context of higher education in Rajshahi University. It explores the features and facilities of VLE used by students. It also highlights the reasons of motivation for using VLE as well as problems encountered by them at Rajshahi University in Bangladesh. Methodology: The study adopted survey research strategy. To collect data, a structured questionnaire was designed using likert scale. Also, personal observation and face to face discussions were used in explaining the phenomenon to the participants. A survey has been conducted through distributing the questionnaire among 240 undergraduate and graduate students of social science faculty, who have certain research experience, of Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. The samples were chosen purposively from nine departments of social science faculty. SPSS software package and Microsoft office excel were used to analyze the quantitative data. Results: Most of the respondent agreed that VLE is used for preparing class related elements through internet, and it provides service to enhance existing academic practices. They use VLE for preparing assignment, presentation and note for examination. But regarding participation of online course the students show neutral attitude. They often use opera in accessing VLE for collecting information. Most of them have been using Wi-Fi rather than broad band in order to access in VLE. A few of them know the way to search the resources via VLE in the central library. About using e-resources of library through VLE, most of them use e-books frequently where as a few of them use HINARI, AGORA and BanglaJOL databases. They acquainted with information literacy program of VLE offered by library, and it helps them to access, evaluate and use information ethically & to lead a greater diversity of the learning process in higher education. They are familiar about accessing the web to search information, posting messages and participating in synchronous discussion. understand the necessity of sharing educational materials with their students via the web to enhance literacy of VLE.

The whole world is experiencing a new reality – the global outbreak of COVID-19, which has forced... more The whole world is experiencing a new reality – the global outbreak of COVID-19, which has forced every institution into lockdown. This study aims to explore the responses of the government public libraries of Bangladesh. An online questionnaire was used to gather primary data from all of the 71 public libraries, which was followed by semi-structured interviews with eight librarians. The analysis suggests that more than 50% of the libraries had a low level of preparedness to face any crisis, and none of the libraries were fully prepared to manage this pandemic. All of the libraries were open for administrative functions without physical access to users. The study found that 52% of the libraries created public awareness through social media, while 46% supported local government organizations and 40% provided counselling services. Considering the existing challenges, the study recommends some measures for the public libraries of Bangladesh to cope with this situation.

The global reaction to the COVID-19 is varied, but on the whole, the world economy has been seriously deteriorating. COVID-19 has impeded the world's democratic, social-economic, cultural, and religious systems. Globally, educational institutions have been shut down, but their learning activities are being shifted online. Therefore, libraries have been providing diversified resources and services that are important to the needs of users during this pandemic situation. This study aims to comprehensively discuss the ways East West University Library (EWUL), Bangladesh transformed its role during COVID-19 pandemic situation as well as delineate the challenges faced in this quest. This study is basically exploratory in nature. A systematic literature review and document analysis has been conducted, and the author's viewpoints and experiences have also been incorporated in this chapter.
