In addition, it may lead to unhealthy dietary intake. No earlier study has examined the association between dietary patterns and inflammation in rotational shift workers. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the association between dietary patterns and circulating proinflammatory cytokines among shift workers.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted among 257 male shift workers. Dietary intake of participants was examined using the semiquantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire. Serum concentrations of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were measured using suitable commercial kits.ResultsThree main dietary patterns included green vegetables, yellow vegetables and cruciferous vegetables (VEG), liquid oils and mayonnaise, fast food and eggs (LFE), as well as tea and coffee, refined grains and spice (TRS). Subjects with the highest adherence to VEG dietary pattern had a significantly lower concentration of IL-6 (p<0.01) and TNF-α (p<0.001) as compared with those with the lowest adherence. On the other hand, a significant negative association was found between LFE dietary pattern and serum concentrations of IL-6 (p=0.01) and TNF-α (p=0.02). However, no significant association was found between adherence to VEG (p=0.34) or LFE (p=0.99) dietary patterns and levels of hs-CRP and between adherence to TRS dietary pattern and any of the inflammatory cytokines.ConclusionAdherence to VEG and LFE dietary patterns was inversely and directly associated to serum IL-6 and TNF-α concentrations in shift workers, respectively. However, no significant association was found between adherence to these two dietary patterns and serum hs-CRP concentrations and between TRS dietary pattern and any of the inflammatory cytokines.

Depressed patients show increased oxidative stress. During excessive oxidative stress, Malondialdehyde (MDA) increases and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) decreases in body. This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the serum level of TAC and MDA among depressed rotational shift workers in Shahid Tondooyan Tehran Oil Refinery. 21-item Beck Depression Inventory was used to measure depression level. The level of TAC and MDA was measured by 8 mL fasting blood sample. MDA was determined by thiobarbituric acid reaction. Serum total antioxidants were measured using the ABTS. Results of this study showed that TAC mean and standard deviation concentration was 2.451 (±0.536) mg/dL and MDA was 3.725 (±1.098) mic⋅mol/L, and mean and standard deviation of depression score and BMI were 14.07 (±3.84) and 24.92 (±3.65) kg/m 2 , respectively. Depression score had a positive correlation with rotational shift work experience and work experience (= 0.218 and = 0.212), respectively, (< 0.05).

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of concomitant exposure to sound, heat, and physical workload changes on physiological parameters in controlled laboratory conditions. This experimental cross-sectional study was conducted in 35 male university students with a mean age of 25.75 years and a mean BMI of 22.69 kg/m(2). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured after 15 min rest in the laboratory, 5 and 10 min after starting the experiment, and then after 20 min in controlled laboratory conditions in five combination modes. The combination modes were (Sound: 65 dB, WBGT: 22 degrees C, Speed: 1.7, Slope: 10%), (Sound: 65 dB, WBGT: 22 degrees C, Speed: 3.4, Slope: 14%), (Sound: 95 dB, WBGT: 22 degrees C, Speed: 1.7, Slope: 10%), (Sound: 65 dB, WBGT: 32 degrees C, Speed: 1.7, Slope: 10%), and (Sound: 95 dB, WBGT: 32 degrees C, Speed: 3.4, Slope: 14%). Mixed model analysis and paired t-test were applied for analysis. The results showed that the mean physiological parameters (Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate) increased when different combination modes worsened (Sound from 65 to 95 dB, WBGT from 22 degrees C to 32 degrees C, speed from 1.7 to 3.4, and slope from 10% to 14%, and when sound: 95 dB, WBGT: 32 degrees C, Speed: 3.4, and Slope: 14%). Moreover, the mean changes of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significant in all conditions when compared with the reference condition (Sound: 65 dB, WBGT: 22 degrees C, Speed: 1.7, and Slope: 10%). The mean heart rate changes were also significant except for exposure to the second condition (Sound: 65 dB, WBGT: 22 degrees C, Speed: 3.4, Slope: 14%) and the third condition (Sound: 95 dB, WBGT: 22 degrees C, Speed: 1.7, Slope: 10%). Exposure to hazardous levels of sound, heat, and workload has adverse effects on physiological parameters. Concomitant exposure to all three hazards has a synergistic effect and increases the adverse effect. Keywords:Concomitant exposure; sound; heat; physical workload; physiological parameter

Excessive work stress influences the physical and mental health of nurses and decreases their life quality and professional efficacy. In addition, high levels of psychological stress may cause job dissatisfaction and job strain. Purpose The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between several work-related risk factors and job satisfaction in Iranian nurses. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 730 nurses from four public hospitals in, respectively, northern, southern, eastern, and western Iran. Variables in the job demand–control–support (JDCS) model were measured using the Job Content Questionnaire, and job satisfaction was measured using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Results The mean score for job satisfaction was 62.94 ± 14.24, which is considered moderate. Nurses with a low level of job satisfaction had significantly higher psychological and physical job demands ...

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the association of major dietary patterns with risk of sleep disorders in shift workers of a cement factory. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 257 male shift workers in a cement factory in Iran. Usual dietary intake of participants was assessed using a validated self-administrated 147-item dish-based food frequency questionnaire. To examine sleep disturbances of participants, we used the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. RESULTS: Three major dietary patterns including Classic Iranian, Modern Iranian, and High Protein Low Fruit and vegetables were identified. The Classic Iranian pattern was mainly consisted of high-protein animal foods, fruit, and vegetables, while the Modern Iranian pattern had high amounts of refined grains, solid oils, and caffeine drinks. No significant ...

A large body of evidence has highlighted that there is an emerging concern regarding the increasing stresses that teachers are dealing with. Burnout is a psychophysical state that is characterized by emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP), and low sense of personal accomplishment (PA). We aimed to assess burnout level in teachers' population and its correlation with demographic characteristics because it not only can be affected teachers' health promotion but also student well-being promotion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present cross-sectional study, 322 high-schoolteachers from the second district of Tehran were randomly selected and were asked to complete the standard Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire to evaluate the three areas of burnout. In addition, participants were interviewed for their demographic status (IR.TUMS.MEDICINE.REC.1397.47...
