Female genital mutilation (FGM), which is also known as female circumcision (FC), is a lifethreatening practice that results in many long-lasting health complications in both women and children's lives, especially in underdeveloped regions where its practice is carried out under unhygienic conditions by people who lack medical knowledge even without using any anesthesia and equipment. Furthermore, this non-medical practice brings about a number of both immediate and later complications. In addition to causing sexually dysfunctional, the other immediate effects following the circumcision can be bleeding, infections. psychological shock, and not being able to pass urine. Other complications include repetitive infections of urinary tract, urinary genital tract fistula, pelvic pain, sexually dysfunctional, complications during delivery such as bleeding because of tears and cuts, and maternal and fatal morbidity in case of prolonged stages of labour, thus leading to an increase in mortalities. Despite the opposition of World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the efforts of many Civil Works Organisations, along with the legislations of the Governments for its eradication, circumcision is still continuing to be practised in Africa. In this article the authors aimed to present a case of a ten-year-old child who has a two-year history of type 3 circumcision and discuss the complications of female circumcision performed at early ages.

In the present study, we aimed to determine whether there was a NTRK1 and NTRK2 expression in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and precursor lesions. Materials and methods: A total of 92 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples of cervical SCC, squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL) and non-neoplastic cervical tissue (NCT) were subjected to immunohistochemical (IHC) staining with NTRK1 and NTRK2 antibodies. These stainings were compared with p16/Ki-67 (IHC) and the low-risk/high-risk Human papillomavirus (HPV) in situ hybridization stainings that were previously administered. Results: In IHC analysis, NTRK1 expression was detected in 3.2% and 12.5% of SCC and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)-2 samples, respectively. In addition, NTRK2 expression was detected in 6.5% and 6.3% of SCC and CIN-2 samples, respectively. However, NTRK1/NTRK2 expression was not detected in samples of NCT, CIN-1, and CIN-3. The p16 and Ki-67 expression and high-risk HPV positivity increased as the grade of the lesion increased. Conclusions: The results indicated that both NTRK1 and NTRK2 had no contributory effect on the grading and differentiation of cervical SCC and SIL. We consider that the IHC method is likely to be used for the screening of NTRK gene fusions in patients with cervical SCC. Trk inhibitors are likely to be a favorable therapeutic alternative for this low number of SCC cases with positive NTRK1/NTRK2 staining. Further studies are needed to confirm these ideas.

The relation between EBV and breast cancer varies in different studies. We also studied the presence of EBV in breast neoplasms, in our region. Materials and Methods: In this study, breast biopsy samples from 57 patients embedded in paraffin blocks were used. Twenty of these patients were diagnosed with fibroadenoma. Thirty-seven of the patients were diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. Out of the 37 invasive ductal carcinoma patients, 13 were graded as grade 1, 12 as grade 2 and 12 as grade 3 based on the Nottingham modification of the Bloom Richardson system. Epstein-Barr Virus Early RNA (EBER) in situ hybridization method was applied to all biopsies to research the presence of EBV. Results: The EBER in situ hybridization method shows, positive staining in 5 of 20 fibroadenomas, 4 of 13 Grade 1 invasive ductal carcinomas and 2 of 12 Grade 2 invasive ductal carcinomas. All cases with grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma were negative. Conclusion: Although there was no statistically significant difference in our study, it was thought that further studies which are more sensitive on demonstrating the presence of EBV are needed, since staining was observed in some tumor cells.

The aim of the study was to compare the results of Brucella Coombs gel test (BCGT) with Standart tube agglutination test (STA), Coombs anti-Brucella test (CAB), Brucellacapt test (CAPT) for the serological diagnosis of brucellosis. Methods: A total of 180 blood samples, were included in the study and were simultaneously tested with STA, CAB, CAPT and BCGT. Results of the tests were evaluated in terms of diagnostic performance and Kappa coefficient. Results: When the tests were compared to CAB test, which is a reference method in the serological diagnosis of the brucellosis, in terms of diagnostic performance; the highest sensitivity (98.1%) and accuracy (98.9%) was found with BCGT. When tests were evaluated in terms of Kappa coefficient, BCGT had the highest value (0.796) and substantial agreement with CAB. Conclusion: In conclusion, when compared with CAB, BCGT showed substantial agreement and highest sensitivity and accuracy. In addition, reduction of the period for test results and elimination of the need for experienced staff makes this test superior to other methods. Although BCGT seems to replace other tests in the serological diagnosis of brucellosis, its sensitivity and specificity should be put forward in culture-confirmed

This study aimed to compare the Pap smear results and the subsequent biopsy results in 258 patients diagnosed in our clinic to analyse their false-positive and false-negative rates and to discuss the outcomes in light of literature. The study included Pap smear specimens archived for four years that had undergone histopatholojical diagnoses of cervical biopsy, conization, curettage, and/or histerectomy within the three months. In the retrospective analysis, cytological diagnosis and the histological diagnosis which had been established within the subsequent three months were compared and then the false-negative and false-positive rates were calculated. In the cyto-histological comparison, the false-negative and false-positive rates independent of class ratio were 4,3% and 19%, respectively. The sensitivity, selectivity, positive and negative predictive values were 69%, 98%, 89% and 93%, respectively, excluding atypical classes of the cytologic diagnoses. As can be seen in our results, the correlation between Pap smear and biopsy results in our patients displayed an unignorable inconsistency although it was not remarkably different from those reported in the literature. Such discrepancies, which are likely to be detected in the cy to-histopathological studies around the world and do not attenuate the value of cervical cytology despite being unignorable, indicate the necessity of screening schemes involving the combined and effective use of different techniques such as Human papillomavirus (HPV) tests, repeated smear examinations, colposcopic examination, and biopsy in patients diagnosed by cervical cytology.

Humans are coincidental intermediate hosts infected after eating contaminated food, including fruits and vegetables or being in contact with foxes or dogs. Although most alveolar echinococcal infections are localized to the liver, the larvae may spread to other organs by regional extension or distant metastasis along hematogenous or lymphatic pathways. The liver and lungs are the most commonly affected organs. Alveolar echinococcosis involving the kidneys is very rare. Parasitic infection causes granulomatous response on the host immune system. These lesions may be misdiagnosed as malignant neoplasms. Imaging modalities such as MRI provide useful diagnostic information for the accurate diagnosis of alveolar echinococcosis. In this case, we aimed to present radiological imaging and pathological findings of alveolar echinococcosis mimicking renal cell carcinoma of the right kidney with brain metastasis in a 40-year-old male patient with right lumbar pain.

The occurrence in pelvic cavity is very rare. It is usually mimicking the pelvic adnexal solid-heterogenous tumoral mass. So the preoperative diagnosis is mostly difficult. We now present a case of pe lvic CD in a woman who complaint from pelvic pain. The patient underwent laparotomy with suspicious of adnexal tumor. However, the diagnosis was made at histopathologic examination postoperatively. The surgery was curative in this case and no recu rrence was observed in the patient.
