The crystal structure is stabilized by weak C-HÁ Á ÁN and C-HÁ Á Á hydrogen-bond interactions. Comment Tetrasubstituted phthalocyanines are generally obtained from monosubstituted phthalonitriles, e.g. 4-(2-naphthoxy)phthalonitrile (McKeown, 1998). Phthalocyanines are of enormous technological importance for the manufacture of blue and green pigments. Other areas of current interest include applications in colours, catalysis, chemical sensors, electrochromism, batteries, photodynamic theraphy, semiconductive materials, liquid crystals and modified supports for gas-solid chromatography, as a result of newly synthesized compounds (Leznoff & Lever, 1989-1996). The title compound, (I), contains two cyclic groups, a naphthoxy and a phthalonitrile, bridged by an O atom. The phthalonitrile ring exhibits normal geometry and is planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.001 (1) Å for atom C4. The two cyano groups deviate from this plane by only 0.028 (3) and À0.053 (4) Å at atoms N1 and N2, respectively. The naphthoxy system is also planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.017 (2) Å for atom C9. The phthalonitrile and naphthyloxy groups make a dihedral angle of 66.14 (4). The C N bond lengths [N1 C1 = 1.141 (2) Å and N2 C2 = 1.142 (2) Å ] compare well with values reported in the literature [1.142 (5) Å in C 38 H 36 N 8 O 4 S 2 (Ç oruh et al., 2002), 1.141 (4) Å in C 17 H 13 BrN 2 O 3 (Ocak Ískeleli et al., 2005) and 1.148 (2) Å in C 8 H 4 F 3 N (Boitsov et al., 2002)]. As expected, The N CC angles [N1 C1-C8 = 178.8 (2) and N2 C2-C3 = 179.5 (3) ] are linear. The crystal structure of (I) is stabilized by weak intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁN and C-HÁ Á Á ring-centroid hydrogenbond interactions (Table 1 and Fig. 2). Experimental 2-Naphthol (1.34 g, 9.30 mmol) and 4-nitrophthalonitrile (1.43 g, 8.26 mmol) were dissolved in dry dimethylformamide (35 ml). After

Six different "hands-on" models have been developed in this direction. The study group of the study constitutes a total of 40 middle school seventh grade students who are studying in one of the state schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Samsun province. In the study, case study method was used among qualitative research methods. The data of the study were gathered using the Teaching Astronomy with Models Assessment Form (TAMAF) and analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result of the analysis, students stated that they think that they comprehend the subjects easier and better by using "hands-on" models and therefore make the learning permanent. Besides, the visuality of the models are liked by the students and also the lessons thought with the models are observed to be entertaining and enjoyable. Finally, it was determined that the most favourite models of students are constellations and eclipses. Based on these results, it is proposed to extend and popularize the teaching using the "hands-on" 1 This study based on the Ph.D. thesis of Cumhur TÜRK. 2 This study was presented as an oral presentation at International Conference on Multidisciplinary Sciences.

Journal of Education and Learning, 2015

The purpose of this study is to determine the mental models of elementary school students on seas... more The purpose of this study is to determine the mental models of elementary school students on seasons and to analyze how these models change in terms of grade levels. The study was conducted with 294 students (5 th , 6 th , 7 th and 8 th graders) studying in an elementary school of Turkey's Black Sea Region. Qualitative and quantitative data collection methods were used in the study. The students first were asked 3 open ended questions (one of them was a drawing) in order to determine their mental models on seasons. Following this, the students took an achievement test on seasons that consisted of 4 multiple questions. Quantitative data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 while the qualitative data were analyzed by the researchers by using content analysis technique. The results of the study showed that the students construct the formation of seasons in various ways in their minds. However, differently from the literature, the presence of some new mental models was found. For a full understanding of the seasons, the necessity of a set of pre-learnings has been recommended. It will be useful to design basic activities based on hands-on and learning by doing which will enable the most effective learning and to put this in the textbooks in the most suitable way. Additionally tangible physical-scale hands-on models, 3D simulation modeling and planetarium environment should be used in students' education about formation of seasons.

It has been found that the gamma irradiation produces (CH) N> radical with A&"28.5, A, VV "28.6, A, WW "8.4, A, XX "15.1 G and g VV "2.0043, g WW "2.0065, g XX "2.0054 EPR parameters in the sample. The behaviour of the radical movement in the [(CH) NH] CdCl matrix is discussed in terms of the parameters obtained by analysing the data. No significant changes are observed in the EPR spectra in the temperature range from room to liquid nitrogen.

Defects generated in single crystals of RbClO by gamma irradiation at room temperature have been ... more Defects generated in single crystals of RbClO by gamma irradiation at room temperature have been studied using the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique. The defects are assigned as ClO , ClO and O\. Hyperfine coupling constants and g-values have been determined and discussed by comparing the results with previous studies of X-or gamma-irradiated earth alkali chlorates and perchlorates. It has been found that there are two chemically identical but magnetically distinguishable sites for ClO and ClO , whereas only a single site is observed for O\. It should also be added that all the signals decrease by heating and by UV light treatment.
