The fourth industrial revolution is changing the way industries face their problems, including ma... more The fourth industrial revolution is changing the way industries face their problems, including maintenance. The railway industry is moving to adopt this new industry model. The new trains are designed, manufactured, and maintained following an Industry 4.0 methodology, but most of the current trains in operation were not designed with this technological philosophy, so they must be adapted to it. In this paper, a new methodology for adapting a high-speed train to Industry 4.0 is proposed. That way, a train manufactured before this new paradigm can seize the advantages of Maintenance 4.0. This methodology is based on four stages (physical system, digital twin, information and communication technology infrastructure, and diagnosis) that comprise the required processes to digitalize a railway vehicle and that share information between them. The characteristics that the data acquisition and communication systems must fulfil are described, as well as the original signal processing techniques developed for analysing vibration signals. These techniques allow processing experimental data both in real time and deferred, according to actual maintenance requirements. The methodology is applied to determine the operating condition of a high-speed bogie by combining the signal processing of actual vibration measurements taken during the normal train operation and the data obtained from simulations of the digital twin. The combination of both (experimental data and simulations) allows establishing characteristic indicators that correspond to the normal running of the train and indicators that would correspond to anomalies in the behaviour of the train.

The advent of Industry 4.0 has revolutionised the way in which all aspects of a product or servic... more The advent of Industry 4.0 has revolutionised the way in which all aspects of a product or service are approached, and the railway sector is moving toward the adoption of this new paradigm. Maintenance in railways is traditionally based on a preventive approach that replaces parts at regular intervals or when a failure occurs. However, the 4.0 revolution implies the use of new strategies based on condition monitoring and predictive maintenance for moving towards Maintenance 4.0. In this work, the creation of a digital twin that helps in the adoption of new technologies is established. The proposed digital twin covers the trailer bogie of a high-speed train and is composed of three models: a 3D geometrical model, a finite element model and a multi-body model. These three models provide the initial information about the dynamic performance of the bogie that should be completed with feedback from the actual bogie operating in the real world.

El comportamiento del sistema de suspension trasera de una motocicleta depende de la forma en que... more El comportamiento del sistema de suspension trasera de una motocicleta depende de la forma en que el mecanismo transmite las cargas del contacto neumatico-carretera al amortiguador. Actualmente la obtencion de la mejor configuracion de la suspension trasera de una motocicleta se realiza por metodos experimentales. Este articulo propone un metodo de optimizacion de las dimensiones del conjunto bieleta-balancin utilizando la sintesis de Freudenstein. Esto permite determinar la configuracion optima para que el amortiguador trabaje a lo largo de todo su recorrido, teniendo en cuenta las limitaciones de espacio, de la forma mas eficiente. Con esta metodologia es posible mejorar el contacto neumatico-carretera y, con este, la dinamica de la motocicleta.

There are rotary actuators between body and legs so that the configuration angles vary, enabling the UGV to adapt better to the terrain profile, improving its navigation capabilities. We present a numerical program based on a quasi-static half vehicle model that calculates, for a given profile, how the configuration angles must vary along the trajectory, so that the torque acting on the wheels meets some criteria, such as being the minimum or maintaining as constant as possible. Results may be helpful in control tasks, if the vehicle is equipped with a system capable of reading the terrain where it will pass, in particular when passing obstacles efficiently.

Si la unidad central de procesamiento (CPU) de un ordenador convencional actual dispone de 4 a 8 nucleos de proceso, la unidad de procesamiento grafico (GPU, Graphics Processor Unit) dispone de cientos o miles de nucleos de proceso. La arquitectura de las CPUs esta orientada a la eficacia de las tareas del sistema operativo y, principalmente, al procesamiento secuencial mientras que las GPUs, aunque ejecutan tareas mas basicas, poseen una arquitectura orientada a realizar operaciones en coma flotante, manejando multiples tareas simultaneamente, en paralelo

In this article, the manuscript of Codex Madrid I, Leonardo da Vinci's workshop drawings collecti... more In this article, the manuscript of Codex Madrid I, Leonardo da Vinci's workshop drawings collection, is reviewed and the main mechanisms that appear in the aforesaid codex are analysed. It begins with a short reference to Leonardo da Vinci works and, subsequently, Leonardo's manuscripts and Codex Madrid I, in particular, are placed in their historical context. After analysing the historical scope of Codex Madrid I, a compilation of the 100 main drawings of the manuscript is made, composing nine Mechanisms Drawings Boxes. Each Mechanisms Drawings Box is a collage made up of 10 to 14 drawings of mechanical elements that appear in Codex Madrid I, with a brief description of each drawing. This compilation illustrates the wide range of mechanical elements and simple mechanisms of Codex Madrid I, forming, as a whole, a complete treatise on mechanisms, understanding mechanisms as basic elements of machines.
