While physical education course was called as terbiye-i bedeniye, gymnastics, physical education in Ottoman period, it was called as gymnastics and physical education in the Republic of Turkey. Wheras the course was unscientific and it focused on physical development and power in the Ottoman Empire, it came into being as having the same function in the Republic of Turkey. It was called as gymnastics especially after the Republician period and it involved gymnastic drills. So,it focused directly on the physical development. As a result of this, especially in the early years of the Turkish Republic, we see that individuals were physically more advanced through this course and in the following years gymnastics classes lost this task. The small number of lessons per week of physical education classes has made a set in front of this development. Since the physical education courses have been given 1-2 hours per week, the current situation did not fullfill the project to create expected robust and powerful sports kid and the course has directly been developed as students' leisure activities. The aim of this study is to inform about the physical education lessons in the first years of the Republic of Turkey and the last period of the Ottoman Empire, to reveal the purposes of these courses and to compare the physical education lessons in Ottoman and Republician periods.

Study sample consists of a total of 144 students (84 females and 60 males). This research is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Developed by Demirhan and Altay (2001) and composed of 12 positive and 12 negative items, "Physical Education and Sport Attitude Scale‛ (PESAS) was used to measure students' attitudes in this study. Students' attitude scale scores were analyzed according to various variables (gender, major, grade, extra-curricular leisure-time exercise, engaging in sports regularly and having a degree in a branch of sports). Frequency (f), percentile (%), arithmetic mean () and standard deviation () were calculated. Results show that there is a statistically significant difference in students' attitudes towards physical education course depending on major, extracurricular leisure-time exercise, engaging in sports regularly and having a degree in a branch of sports (p <0.01) while there is no statistically significant difference in students' attitudes towards physical education course depending on gender and grade (p >0.05). The fact that students regard physical education course as an elective reduces their interest in the course, which suggests that the inclusion of physical education course as a required course in the curriculum may enhance student interest. It is recommended that further studies are carried out with larger sample sizes including diverse populations from other majors and universities.

The study was carried out on students of Physical Education and Sports Academy (PESA) of Ordu University, between 2015 and 2016. PESA graduates work for schools, sports clubs and in different areas of sports as teachers, coaches, managers and sports writers. They exhibit various features of leadership in order to enable students, athletes or other individuals engaging in sports to achieve set goals and teach them to develop necessary behavioral patterns to sustain their success. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between gender, major and class level of PESA students and their views on leadership styles. The study was carried out with a total of 251 participants; 116 (46.2%) women and 125 (53.8%) men. The Leadership Style test scale developed by Frew et al. (1977) and adapted to Turkish by Konter (1996) was used to assess this relationship. Data were analyzed using the SPSS, version 20. Frequency distributions were used to determine the demographic characteristics of the students. A chi-square analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the independent variables and leadership styles. The results indicate that there is no statistically significant relationship between students' gender and class levels and their views on leadership styles. The results show that there is a statistically significant relationship between students' majors and their views on leadership styles. Management students show features of moderately democratic leadership and features of very democratic leadership while teaching students do not. Another noteworthy finding is that students mainly display mixed features of leadership. It is suggested that courses on leadership be included in the curriculum of physical education and sports departments. Seminars, panels, congresses, etc. should be held to inform students on leadership and, moreover, they should be encouraged to participate in scientific studies. This study was orally presented at the 9th International Education Research Congress held at Ordu University between 11 and

And also to determine the local and systemic side effects of topical MMC. With this objective, 0.6 mg/ml MMC was used to the first group at single dose and to the second group intraoperatively and on third day postoperatively in two doses topically for 5 min. After 8 weeks, although the mean area of antrostomy was larger than that in the control side in the first group, which received single dose MMC, the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.287). The second group received two doses, and the antrostomy areas were found to be significantly larger than the controls (p = 0.05). Overall, the sides that received MMC were significantly larger (p = 0.029). From the point of histopathological examination of the tissue, it was seen that two-dose MMC increased the edema indicating inflammation and antrostomy resolved with normal respiratory tract epithelium. It was shown by measuring the blood values that nephrotoxic and myelosupressant effect of MMC occurring in systemic use did not occur with single or double dose topical use. Our results demonstrate that even if the number of cases was low, two doses of topical MMC usage prevent the narrowing of antrostomy while single dose MMC does not. And two-dose topical MMC usage does not have local and systemic side effects.
