The attitudes of nurses towards death, affect the quality of care.ObjectivesTo investigate pediatric nurses’ attitudes towards death.MethodsMethodology: 170 nurses, working in pediatric hospital departments completed a questionnaire which included sociodemographic characteristics and information related to their previous training and clinical experience regarding death issues in general and dying children’s care in particular.Results68.6% reported that the death of a child affects them very much, while 44.7% of the participants didn’t feel well prepared to manage death issues. Pediatric nurses were greatly affected by children’s death, expressing mainly feelings of sadness (44%), compassion (22%), guilt (22%) and anger (22%). 73% of the sample wished the hospitalized child, died when they were not present. 53.5% had been trained regarding the care of dying p...

It is measured by the time variation in the beat-to-beat interval, while the period between successive beats is defined as the RR interval (RRI). Its components are classified as linear and non-linear. In the field of psychophysiology, HRV is investigated as a key player of possible predictive or diagnostic value. Female adolescents with general learning disabilities or dyslexia were recruited at the Center for Adolescent Medicine and UNESCO Chair on Adolescent Health Care of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Adolescents were further assessed for HRV. Data were collected with the Task Force® Monitor at the Cardiovascular Laboratory of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. The RRI time-series were estimated for approximate entropy (AE), conditional entropy (CE), corrected conditional entropy (CCE), fuzzy entropy (FE), permutation entropy (PE), sample entropy (SE), and Shannon's entropy (ShE). RRI manifested complex dynamics, indicating a complex pattern of progression. This finding suggests that RRI conceals non-linear dynamics, which if investigated in depth could provide more knowledge on the relation between RRI and learning disorders.

In Greece, there is no available research on how locked ward environments are perceived and experienced by mental health professionals. The aim of the present study is to illuminate nursing care providers' perceptions of psychiatric care in units with locked doors. Fifteen nursing care providers were interviewed and inductive content analysis was employed to explore their experiences of working in locked psychiatric acute care units. Negative and positive feelings about door locking did not appear to match the specific system of practice. Some participants described how locked doors influenced their professional role by placing emphasis on control rather than care while others regarded locked doors as a symbolic way of therapeutic boundary setting. Participants had positive experiences when they perceived their working environment as caring. The therapeutic benefits of locked doors were prominent when locked doors were perceived as "invisible."

The higher rates of abstinence from smoking are achieved through specialized psychological assistance, pharmaceutical treatment and counseling support. The aim of the present study was to explore the demographic characteristics and smoking history of smokers attending a smoking cessation clinic in a public hospital of Attica one year after cessation. Method and material : The sample studied consisted of 300 smokers who came to public hospital in Attica. Data were collected by the completion of a form by the Hellenic Antismoking Society which is used to record the smoking habits of the population and to assess the severity of nicotine dependence, (Fagerstrom scale). Results : The analysis of the results showed that smokers who gave up smoking were 32,7%, those who failed 51,8% and those who relapsed 15,6%. The highest rate of success was noted among heavily dependent smokers at 53,7% compared to those who were moderate and mild dependent. Of the smokers who failed to quit smoking, 47,2% reported that they were not ready, 11,8% were frightened of the side-effects, 14,3% showed side-effects, 1,2% did not need any therapy, 16,8% believed that the treatment did not help, 8,1% experienced heavy stress and 0,6% did not give up for personal reasons. The prescribed therapy for the smokers who quit was boupropion at a rate of 56,7%, the nicotine sticker patches at a rate of 13,4% and nicotine chewing gum at 9%, combination of boupropion with sticker patches at a rate of 4,5%, boupropion and nicotine gums at 9% and sticker patches with gums at 7,5%. Conclusion : The result of the above methods of treatment at Smoking cessation clinic is quite satisfactory.

The linguistic adaptation of the original instrument was performed according to the most recent guidelines and it was then administered to 274 third-year nursing students. Results support the validity and reliability of the instrument, which can be used to assess effectively the attitudes of the intended population. Sixty per cent of students considered mental health nursing as a possible career choice. Research on students' attitudes appeared to be a strategy of creating the space for lively discussions among them and capturing their interest in mental health education and practice. Theoretical preparation and clinical placements of mental health nursing students should incorporate strategies to improve their perceptions of working in mental health settings.

Aim: To construct an updated interactome of genetic obesity, including the kisspeptin signal transduction pathway. Methods: Kisspeptin and obesity-related genes or gene products were extracted from the biomedical literature, and a network of functional associations was created. Results: The generated network contains 101 nodes corresponding to gene/gene products with known and/or predicted interactions. In this interactome, KISS1 and KISS1R are connected directly to the luteinizing hormone receptor (LHCGR), gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor (GNRH1), and indirectly, through the latter, to proopiomelanocortin (POMC), glucagon, leptin (LEP), and/or pro-protein convertase subtilisin/kexin-type 1 (PCSK1), all of which are critically implicated in obesity disorders. Conclusions: Our updated obesidome includes kisspeptin and its connections to the genetic obesity signalosome with 12 major hubs: glucagon (GCG), insulin (INS), arginine vasopressin (AVP), G protein subunit beta 1 (GNB1) and proopiomelanocortin (POMC), melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R), leptin (LEP), gonadotropin-releasing hormone 1 (GNRH1), adrenoceptor beta 2 and 3 (ADRB2-3), glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP1R), and melanocortin 3 receptor (MC3R) genes were identified as major "hubs" for genetic obesity, providing novel insight into the body's energy homeostasis.

The Greek economy shrank by 20% between 2008 and 2012 without evidence of growth in 2014. The unemployment was 24.3% in 2012 (7.7% in 2008) and now the maximum rate of long-term unemployment went up to 14.4% [1]. The growing pressure from the Greek governments especially the hospitals budget cuts creates pressure on the effectiveness and efficiency, devastating the Greek healthcare system. Economic crisis in combination with the continuous growth of hospital costs services on one hand and the pressure by patients themselves for lower cost and better treatment on the other, has driven governments in Greece, to restructure the hospital sector (known as "hospital mergers").
