Despite its importance, we know little about critical aspects of it, as some important gaps are highlighted in the SSCM literature: deepening social dimension, exploring governance mechanisms, and strengthening theoretical development. This research aims to analyze how stakeholder salience and contingency factors influence the extent to which focal firms implement governance mechanisms to address social issues in supply chains. We conduct a multiple case study in six focal firms operating in Brazil. We intend to reduce the shortage of empirical evidence on emerging economies by focusing on a leading emerging country. This study contributes to the literature in three main aspects: (1) We classify social issues into central, peripheral, and remote, based on their priority within SSCM practices from emerging economy cases; (2) We outline three archetypes of social-SCM, namely e...

Therefore, this study aims to understand the determinant factors of the pressures, and environ-mental practices on the management of the sustainable supply chain, from the development of two measurement models: 1) pressures and 2) socio-environmental practices accomplished by the com-panies. The methodology was based on a survey application in processing industries of Minas Gerais state. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis.

The adaption to adverse effects of climate change, as well as the reduction of actions that can contribute to these changes, are vital to reducing uncertainties about the future of the humankind. Adaptation and mitigation actions have been necessary facing of the tourism potentialities to contribute to, and to be affected by, climate change. This research sought to analyse how the accommodation sector on the Águas Paulista Circuit (APC) has adapted to climate change based on the meaning the managers have attributed to specific experiences. In this research, we developed a "substantive theory" of adaptation to climate change. In this unique case study, mainly qualitative, and carried out in the APC region, it is worth noting that the primary driver of tourism in the region has been the quality of water from natural sources. Most of the municipalities belonging to the APC area have faced water rationing, therefore they have experienced economic losses in the tourism sector. In this research, the central category has been constituted of three major properties: the ability to cope with the climate change; the strategic adaptations; and the financial factors. It was noticed that the climate change and extreme weather events could interfere with travel decisions. At the same time, it was reported that news broadcast on the water crisis also negatively affected the tourism sector, causing uncertainty and damaging the image of the tourism destination. It is expected this work can contribute to the understanding of the need to adapt to the climate change and extreme climate events because of the risk of affecting business.

A qualitative approach was conducted with humanitarians. Challenges were related to fearing risk of contamination and death, lack of information and control, delay of internal response, and reversing the decision-making process.

The literature points hurdles on assessing all three (i.e., economic, environmental, social) performances needed for sustainability, especially social. The research identified and analyzed key metrics for performance measurement for SSCM, targeting social issues.

This also appliesfor Sustainable Supply Chain Management. The research field still advances disproportionately on environmental and economic dimensions, front of the social dimension. This study aims toshed additional light about sustainable supply chain management, focusing on provide a theoretical explanation for social sustainability adoption into the supply chain. To guide this theoretical essay, the studyexplores theconcepts of social issues and governance mechanisms and presents a framework for social sustainability adoption and management into supply chains, considering three guiding theories: Stakeholder Theory, Behavioral Theory and Contingency Theory. In order to collaborate with a future research agenda for the field, research gaps focusing on the social dimension are addressed.

The features of this model identify it as a sixth-generation innovation model. First of all the article describes the different generations and highlights their main characteristics. Despite the differences between them, all emphasize radical innovations and ignore incremental innovations. This model serves for both types, but focuses its efforts on incremental innovations for creating a continuous flow of innovations, which is a means of understanding the concept of continuous improvement applied to the company as a whole. Thus, this model builds a bridge between innovation management and quality management.

Descriptive research is seated on a sample comprised of 649 companies from different branches of activity, which provided the information in the journal Analise Gestao Ambiental (2008). It was found through this study, that: the size of the company does not exercise influence in the establishment of a standard organizational structure; certified by the NBR ISO 14001 leads companies to adopt integrated management systems in its structure; and arrangements establish organizational isomorphism only when observing the relationship between area responsible for environmental management and by post.

There are, however, various tourism initiatives in indigenous areas throughout the country, mainly in the Amazon region, where most of Brazil’s Indian population is concentrated. Considering tourism can lead to both positive and negative consequences the objective of this work is to analyze the social, cultural, economic and environmental impacts of tourism on Indian communities in the Brazilian Amazon region. A survey was carried out that comprised forty questions that were answered by Indians from the communities. The study revealed that tourist activities have proved to be sustainable in their social, cultural and environmental dimensions, according to the opinion of the local inhabitants. However, the result for economic sustainability was not representative, perhaps because the communities receive a reduced number of visitors because of their incipient infrastruct...

The paper aims to discuss these issues.Design/methodology/approachThis research presents an applied nature, is characterized as exploratory and adopted the case study as a technical procedure using sources and methods of data collection. The primary data were collected through direct observation of the processes and semi-structured interviews with managers and owners.FindingsThe most widespread practices are related to product design. However, in most cases, the implementation was punctual and did not present continuous and corresponding actions, which highlights the embryonic contours of European Commission (EC) in the observed network.
