Towards a Sustainable Well-being Society From Principles to Applications Measured in terms of economic development and social justice, the model of Western welfare states has been one of the most successful societal models in the world. But many welfare states are now going through a historical transformation. The public spending crisis, economic restructuring and adaptation to climate change are huge challenges to be addressed. These challenges reflect a deeper and longer-term structural crisis of the 20th century societal paradigm. What is needed now is the same kind of courage, visionary thinking and openmindedness that we had when we first began to build the welfare state. Adjusting to planetary boundaries Addressing well-being in a holistic way Developing inclusive and adaptive governance Building competencies for a complex world Empowering individuals and communities Moving to a regenerative and collaborative economy
