The author argues that denying immigrants’ funeral rituals constitutes a breach of their citizenship rights. The discussion focuses on the disruption caused to Congolese Canadians’ funeral ceremonies through refusals to grant temporary visas to family members from the Congo so that they can complete their funeral ceremony as prescribed by their culture with the Congolese Canadians. The discussion demonstrates that the political recognition of immigrants’ funeral rituals regardless of their cultural background and socioeconomic status may help immigrants feel valued and fully integrated into their host countries.

I argue that global citizenship education contributes to youth radicalization and terrorism engagement once they realize that global citizenship values are incongruent with local and global adult economic and sociopolitical practices. The discussion elaborates on global citizenship values promoted by global citizenship education and its potential link between youth radicalization and terrorism engagement. The discussion suggests the stronger youth global values the more likely they will radicalize and engage in terrorism.

[Les systemes locaux d'innovation: Queue portee pour les pays moins avances?]. This reflection stems from the observation that the concept of 'local innovation system' is relevant for lesser developed countries in general, and particularly for those of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), because it places emphasis on the black box from which technological development is produced. It permits us to demonstrate that the growth of businesses takes place more and more through the sharing and exchange of resources in contrast to traditional analysis which places the accent on their own individual resources. First, the concept of local innovation system is discussed in relation to the technological levels of development of SSA. Then, the logical outcomes of the concept are examined for technological policy development in SSA. ********** Ces notes de recherches portent sur la pertinence du conce...

We assume that the outside acquisition of the technological services in a national system of innovation is a more significant indicator to evaluate innovative inputs than R&D for small and medium enterprises. Descriptive results show that successful and less succ essful enterprises have the same pattern in their process of externalisation of resources. However, statistical correlations show mixed findings from which arises the question: why do not innovation networks always positively affect the performance of enterprises?

The methodology consisted of conducting a literature review of francophone databases using the following key words: literacy and education combined with the word health. The second phase of this research involved reading 126 articles found in francophone databases and collected from the Internet. The third included reading 14 documents focused on the relationship between literacy/education and health with the aim of defining each word and identifying their characteristics. The results show that francophone authors from North America used both terms, health literacy and health education, interchangeably; while European authors only refer to health education. Nonetheless, the analysis revealed that both terms have the same ...

We reviewed the literature starting from 1990 to 2003 using electronic bibliographic databases. Results indicate that out of the 306 references selected for the review, 32 studies were conducted on children/adolescents in African countries compared to 67 studies in Asian countries, 61 in Middle Eastern countries, 46 in Latin American countries and 53 in Eastern European countries. The few promising studies on PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) in Africa have mostly been conducted in African-English-speaking countries, implying a need for research on PTSD in Francophone countries. Findings also show that existing literature on African children/adolescents is largely focussed on PTSD in relation to stressors such as war and political violence. Future research should be extended to include the impact of different types of traumatic events such as natural disasters, confinement in refugee camps, massive internal displacement, sexual abuse and mass killing on African children/adolescents to expand the knowledge base in this area. In addition, more work is needed to understand the effects of culture, gender, age and ethnicity on trauma in children/adolescents to allow for better provision of health services.

As a result, countries hosting large number of immigrants have developed a range of services to help immigrants adjust to their new countries. Many studies have investigated immigrant services, however, there is no discussion looking at immigrant services under what I call "Immigrant settlement services literacy" (ISSL). This paper aims to close this gap. The discussion proposes some implications for immigrant settlement services planning, delivery and evaluation in light of the notion of immigrant services literacy.
