Created in the local context, reflecting the attitude of people towards the environment, these houses are built with traditional techniques and locally available building materials. In Serbia, in Vojvodina region, and other regional flat land there is a rich history of use of earth as a building material and a large number of traditional rammed earth houses to be held until today. Most of these buildings are still in use, but often trumble-down and failing to fulfill current living standards and needs. Because of that the need for preservation and renovation of traditional buildings is recognised as an important step in the process of their recognition as an important part of the architectural heritage of today. The problem is that the majority of traditional architectural heritage has not been officially designated as a cultural asset or a part of the cultural and histori...

During 2016–18, a group of teachers and associates from the Faculty of Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering from the University in Belgrade participated in the project “Energy efficiency in public buildings” in cooperation with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), University of Belgrade, Faculty of Architecture and Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia. During 2016 and 2017, a comprehensive survey and database of public buildings were conducted by the local community. The focus of the research was the facilities of children’s institutions, and detailed data were collected to determine the current building stock conditions, energy consumption, and possible improvements. This paper presents the methodology of the project based on defining the typology...

Infiltration has a considerable impact on both, energy efficiency and occupant comfort in buildin... more Infiltration has a considerable impact on both, energy efficiency and occupant comfort in buildings. Due to the complexity of the analysis of this phenomenon in buildings, the verification methods are very important for its diagnostics and evaluation. In this paper, the matter of infiltration in buildings is being considered referring to both, calculation models and methods, as well as through current standards and regulations in the EU and Serbia. Different valorization methods are presented and analyzed regarding their characteristics, applicability, and complexity. Finally, preliminary infiltration measurements with a pressurization test, conducted on selected buildings of Belgrade housing stock are presented and compared with values defined by the current regulations in Serbia. Results pointed out current problems and the need for improvements regarding the treatment of infiltration in local regulations and practice.

Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is a significant issue in the process of designing new buildin... more Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is a significant issue in the process of designing new buildings, but also during the evaluation of the existing building stock. The parameter that is the dominant indicator of achieving an adequate level of IEQ is Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Since children spend most of their time in schools achieving an adequate level of the indoor environment is especially important. Inadequate IEQ can cause serious consequences on their health and well-being. Current research and practice show that there is a lack of a uniform protocol for the evaluation of IAQ in buildings. Consequently, different research methodologies provide inconsistent results and prevent real insight into the state of IAQ in buildings. This paper aims to define the indoor air quality evaluation protocol that will allow uniform and wholesome insight into the current state of the indoor environment in a school building in Serbia. The protocol will be defined through steps and parameters that...
