This survey research study utilized a 17-item online Dimensions of PBL survey, which was distributed among college students who were participating in PBL courses or learning modules. Initial data analyses indicate that the real world problem-driven learning dimension influences student satisfaction the most. This is followed by the collaborative learning dimension. The self-directed learning dimension impacts student satisfaction the least. More data is being collected to conduct factor analysis and multiple regression statistical analysis to confirm this initial finding. The implication of this study is that instructors of PBL courses may be able to increase their students\u27 satisfaction by addressing the appropriate dimensions of PBL

However, how online training materials can be used to complement traditional laboratory training is less understood. This paper explores the design of online training modules to teach molecular biology and user perception of those modules that were part of an intensive molecular biology "boot camp" targeting high school biology teachers in the State of Hawaii. The John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii had an opportunity to design and develop professional development that prepares science teachers with an introduction of skills, techniques, and applications for their students to conduct medical research in a laboratory setting. A group of 29 experienced teachers shared their opinions of the online materials and reported on how they used the online materials in their learning process or teaching.

Results indicate that the majority of COE faculty were confident with using technology tools for their professional career needs and for teaching with students. The COE faculty also reported being confident in using the university-supported Laulima online course management tool (asynchronous) and the Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing tool (synchronous). Additionally, many faculty acknowledged that the COE for providing excellent training and support for using technology for teaching. The top three ways faculty preferred to learn new features or skills related to technology for teaching were asking a support person, followed by attending formal coursework or training sessions and working with an individual tutor. The results of this study have implications for those who teach online as well as thos...

Training professional counselors requires practice and therefore possesses a challenge for the distant education. Although both counseling professionals’ codes of ethics provide guidance for the ethical practice in difficult situations, the prevailing response among many of these professionals tends to be ambivalent. We explored conditions that influenced knowledge acquisition of graduate rehabilitation counseling students who role-played two challenging scenarios and then had a possibility to review the performance. The data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. The potential of the teaching method and the supporting technology are discussed. The findings indicate that role-playing and experiential learning are valued by the participants as a teaching method in a distance course.
