Attrition and turnover are relatively clear cut act of behavior that have potential critical consequences on the organization at large as it is costly and it disrupts employees (Carmara, 2010). It is therefore indisputable that attrition and turnover have detriment effects on organizational performance. Attrition and turnover have been investigated in a relatively large number studies but still a concern to many organizations. Negative consequences arise when high performing employees leave organizations and it becomes difficult to replace them. This study used primary and secondary sources of data to shed the light on the impact of attrition and turnover on organizational performance. The study covered thirty seven companies, both public and private companies with employee size of fifty to ninety nine as well as thirty seven employees working in such companies in Gaborone. All these theories are secular in their character, originating mostly in the west where material dimension is predominant. The Role of Spiritual connectedness and Consciousness in Leadership and Management is not to be found in these theories, though some ethical elements such as transparency, fairness and Corporate Social Responsibility find place in these theories. While accepting the fact that material dimension is important for material progress of humanity, the authors express the view that spiritual dimension is not to be ignored. Spiritual awareness and conscious practice of spirituality promotes and fosters values in all human beings in general and in particular, a valuable asset for Leaders and Managers. Amongst them are long queues and long waiting time at the outpatients clinics. Long queues and waiting time are a result of uncoordinated internal processes. In order to address the long queues and patient waiting time, the management of one hospital introduced Business Process Reengineering (BPR). The implementation of BPR resulted in improvement as service level was at about ∼87%. The change in top level of the management at the hospital led to regression of some of the gains that the hospital had experienced. The key factors which drive BPR success are top management and coherent understanding of the urgency of the situation. The purpose of this paper is to identify the causes of BPR failure and proposals of new interventions to address the problems. Failure factors which have been identified include organizational resistance, lack of organizational readiness to change, lack of training and education, problems related t...

Btv faces criticism from clients who have been watching TV broadcast from other countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe and from DSTV. For customers to be satisfied, they usually compare their perceptions of a service experience to their expectations. Expectations which are built based on their past experience, word of mouth and advertisements which they expect to be matched or exceeded by Btv as a service provider. However, there is always a difference between what customers expect of a service and what service providers perceive that customers expect. Where perceived performance exceeds a consumer's expectations, the consumer will be satisfied, but where performance falls short of the consumer&#...

Upon realising that dependence on one economic source is not sustainable, the government of Botswana has identified tourism as an alternative engine of economic growth. Although a lot of emphasis has been put on promoting international tourism in Africa, very little is known about domestic tourists, their motivation, behaviour and impacts. This paper is an attempt to bridge this gap by exploring the travel behaviour of University of Botswana students and their motivation to travel as potential domestic tourists. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data. The findings indicate that most students are motivated by Botswana culture and heritage. These results also show that the Botswana tourism philosophy of "lowvolume, high cost" is a major constraint to the development of domestic tourism. The paper concludes by making recommendations on measures that governme...

For this quantitative methods were used for hypotheses testing. The results of this study showed that the level of education of the SME owner is positively correlated with networking. Today’s market and economic conditions are forcing companies to adapt to changes in order to survive, grow and be competitive. Such changes include intercompany cooperation and networks, which allow for competition and innovation in a dynamic environment. Today, almost all industries in Gaborone are affected by the evolution of networking relationships within and between firms; however, previous studies have revealed that companies differ in their competitive strategies, strategic and technological orientation, and methods of networking. This paper provides framework for networking in SMEs and its contribution to the compani...

Invariably, most literature of management theory, presents it as rational: pursuance of a common goal, consensus driven, conflict free and apolitical. Yet, in reality, however, the role of management has always been contested, controversial if not problematic. This paper critiques the way management has been and is being conceptualised today, we do this with a view to contributing to the long standing epistemological debate, which nevertheless, is still lacking in African management schools. A realist philosophical analysis is used to illustrate the political role of management practice in the capitalist production system, especially in the control of the labour process. From a Marxist approach of dialectics, we argue that the management function is inherently conflictual by nature because it has to harmonise the contradictions of the political structure from economi...

The analysis of findings was based upon 14 'pull' motivations adapted from Kozak (2002) and 85 measures of destination competitiveness adapted from Omerzel (2006). The objective of this study is to find out if there are any differences between tourists and tourism product providers' perceptions regarding destination competitiveness and tourist motivation. Factor analysis, reliability analysis and a series of analysis of variance were used to analyse the data. Study results indicate that tourists visit Botswana mainly for pleasure seeking, fantasy and relaxation, and culture. The study further reveals that Botswana's competiveness as a destination is low. Furthermore, the study shows significant differences in understanding tourist motivations and destination competitiveness between t...

It was guided by the Delone and Mclean IS success evaluation model. Three independent ASAS quality variables and one dependent variable (user satisfaction) were included in the study Model. The study also examined if the Model was appropriate for evaluating ASAS in the UB context. The study used quantitative approaches that included a questionnaire, and statistical tools such as reliability test, descriptive statistics, and paired samples t-test. The study found that: (1) users were satisfied with the ASAS performance; however, they felt that there was still room for improvement; (2) the Model was found to be credible for evaluating ASAS in the UB context. Areas that needed improvement were identified and recommendations were made on how to address them.
