Aids initially cause immune system failure resulting in infection and risk of cancers. HIV infection caused by blood transfusion and by using contaminated syringes, HIV is present in body in 2 forms-Free virus & within infected immune cells. CD4 T-cells are infected by HIV and reduce its numbers by breaking down T-cells. Most of the symptoms of HIV are opportunistically caused by bacteria, virus, fungi etc. The infection is smaller than 1% per annum in couples who used condoms. Female condoms may provide equal level of protection. The treatment of antiretroviral drugs has changed AIDS from a life-threatening disease to a feasible disease. Research has known how the virus replicates, manipulates, and hides in infected persons. Although our understanding is increased about the virus yet, a cure and vaccine remain tough.

Urinary tract infections can be community acquired or nosocomial. Symptoms of UTIs such as fever, burning sensations while urinating, LAP, itching, formation of blisters and ulcers in the genital area, genital and supra pubic pain, and pyuria generally depend on the age of the person infected the location of the urinary tract infected. E.coli is the major etiologic agent in causing UTI, which accounts for up to 75%-90% of cases whereas Staphylococcus saprophyticus causes an estimated 5-1 5% of UTIs frequently in younger women. P. mirabilis, Klebsiella species, P. aeruginosa and Enterobacter species are less frequent offenders. Less commonly, Enterococci, G. vaginalis and U. urealyticum are also known agents in UTIs. Due to the rapidly evolving adaptive strategies of bacteria, the etiology of UTI and antibiotic resistance profile of bacterial uropathogens have changed considerably over the past years, both in community and nosocomial infections. Treatment of UTIs cases is often started empirically and therapy is based on information determined from the antimicrobial resistance pattern of the urinary pathogens.

Depending on the population studied between 5 and 18% of women of reproductive age suffer from PCOS, however not all of them are anovulatory or experience subfertility. PCOS has been associated with numerous reproductive and metabolic abnormalities. Despite enormous advances in the management of reproductive dysfunction, insight into the metabolic implications of PCOS is limited by the lack of uniform diagnostic criteria, the heterogeneity of the condition and the presence of confounders including obesity. Obesity clearly has a role in long term health and may best predict both reproductive and metabolic dysfunction as well as negatively affect the response to treatment in women with PCOS. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer are also at the forefront of any risk assessment or comprehensive treatment strategy for these women. Lifestyle modifications including dietary changes, increased exercise and weight loss are appropriate first line interventions for many women with PCOS. Pharmaceuticals including metformin, lipid lowering agents and oral contraceptives should be tailored to the individual's risk profile and treatment goals. The fertility treatment in women with subfertility and PCOS aimed to safely induce monofollicular ovulation resulting in the birth of a singleton child. Women with PCOS undergoing fertility treatment

Type 2 diabetes is associated with oxidative stress; Vitamin B12 deficiency in diabetic patients taking metformin has been linked with oxidative stress. Because of these associations, it is implied that Vitamin B12 deficiency must be considered a risk factor for complications related to diabetes. However, several studies also suggest that deficiency of Vitamin B12 starts from the early stages of Diabetes. It has also been suggested that Vitamin B12 supplementation may help in reducing the complications related to diabetes. Although, the use of prophylactic Vitamin B12 to reduce complications related to diabetes remains controversial. Objective: This study aimed to explore the clinical relevance of Vitamin B12 in newly diagnosed T2DM patients. This study measured Vitamin B12 levels in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and explored the corre...

Introduction: PCOS is an endocrine disorder of women in reproductive age, characterised by obesity, hyperandrogenaemia and insulin resistance. Women with PCOS tend to be overweight and have increased risk of development of Type II Diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Exact Etiology of PCOS still remain an enigmatic dilemma however various studies conducted till date include diet and lifestyle modification as the key factor to promote health, BMI, reduced hyperinsulinemia and reduce the risk of development of PCOS. Main aim of our study was to compare vitamin D status in women having PCOS, with fertile women in a tertiary care hospital in Uttarakhand. Methodology: The conducted study was cross sectional, involving the enrolment of 100 women comprising of 50 women with PCOS and 50 fertile women without PCOS. Participants were selected from gynaecological OPD at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, associated with Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun from July 2019 to January 2020. The diagnostic criteria of PCOS used was the Rotterdam criteria. The serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D and other metabolic markers were measured. Vitamin D deficiency was defined as serum 25 (OH) D concentrations less than 20 ng/ml measured on an instrument named as miniVidas (BioMerieux, Germany) based on ELFA (enzyme linked fluorescent assay).

The spectrum of etiologic agents causing urinary tract infections and their antimicrobial resistance pattern has been continuously changing over the years, both in community and in hospitals. No data concerning the antimicrobial resistance of bacteria isolated from UTI in and around Dehradun region of Uttarakhand has been published to date. Hence an evaluation may also be useful to detect emerging trends of antimicrobial resistance and serve as an indicator for change in antimicrobial prescriptions. Material & Methods: Study was conducted on all patients who came to the laboratory for urine culture & sensitivity and 100 Escherichia coli isolates were included in the study over a period of 10 months. Minimal inhibitory concentrations were calculated on Vitek 2 compact automated system with emphasis on different enzyme resistance mechanisms. Results: These isolates had predilection primarily for females except in older age group wherein males were more affected. Different enzyme resistance mechanisms responsible for antibiotic resistance included ESBL, carbapenemase, etc were statistically evaluated. Conclusion: Importance of excessive water intake and alkalisers should be stressed upon before starting the antibiotic therapy to minimize the emergence of multidrug resistance.

Migraine can lead to reduced work productivity and a flawed family and social life. It has been suggested that melatonin plays a key therapeutic role in treating migraines and several other types of headaches. Early and exact diagnosis is essential in enhancing treatment and in preventing progression. This review aimed to evaluate the available evidence related to the efficacy and safety of melatonin in the prophylaxis and prevention of migraine. Research in regard the administration of melatonin found it safe in migraine patients, with few or no side effects. This review concluded that Melatonin can be considered a safe integrative prophylactic treatment for children, adults and menstrual-related migraines, thus improving outcome...

In addition, the pharmacist's role in promoting logical and cautious use of medicine is becoming more important as a result of his technical and professional understanding. It is clearly known that patients who are adequately informed about medications and how to take them receive safe and effective treatment. Therapeutic pharmacists interact with patients on a frequent basis and assist with clinical treatments in addition to the numerous technical activities performed behind the counter. It is not enough to simply hand over a medicine kit to the patient or their representative; it is also necessary to hand over the correct drug to the correct person with the correct information. The act of assisting a client in seeing everything clearly, potentially from a different perspective. This might assist the client in focusing on feelings, experiences, or behaviour with the goal...

Lifestyle modifications including dietary changes, increased exerc...
