Stuck between the ideologies of Europe and Middle-East, Turkey is experiencing euphoria of practi... more Stuck between the ideologies of Europe and Middle-East, Turkey is experiencing euphoria of practicing democracy which has been subject to hot debates. Society is inevitably being shaped by these discussions. As a reflection of society, how is democracy being reflected in language classrooms? To answer the question from teachers' perspective, this qualitative research was conducted. The aim of this research is to understand Turkish EFL teachers' perceptions and practices regarding democracy. Being the practitioners of Turkish education system and its philosophy, three English teachers participated in this study. The data came from semi-structured interviews and graphic elicitations. Data obtained from the participants were interpreted using "In-vivo" coding. The results of this study suggest that "equity" is one of the most highlighted aspects of democracy in their perception. However, participants seem to adopt "authoritative" teacher roles although they reported fostering student involvement in decision making. Lack of authority is seen as a burden to a democratic class. Experienced and novice teachers have different conceptions and practices of democracy. Experienced teacher is inclined to veil "authority" whereas novice teacher holds a militant view of democracy.

For the students of Informatics Engineering, English is considered important to be mastered not only to comprehend the theory of Informatics Engineering but also to help them in creating a computer program using specific computer programming language. Based on the observation, the Informatics Engineering students find difficulties in handling or solving problems during the process of creating computer program because they do not have good English competence especially in reading skill. This research is conducted to find out whether the learners' English proficiency correlates or affects the learners' ability or mastery in writing a computer program. It is expected that the learner who has a high level of English proficiency will be successful in creating computer program. Since English is used as a lingua franca, the growth of English users is getting bigger. The trem... more Since English is used as a lingua franca, the growth of English users is getting bigger. The tremendous growth of English users has generated variety of English, i.e. Englishes. Such variety could affect EFL pedagogy. This paper, then, explores EFL teachers’ perception on Englishes. By employing a survey study, it is found that EFL teachers agree that it is useful for both English teachers and students to know the variety of English. However, in the teaching practice, they prefer to integrate it to other language skills and language components rather than teaching it in isolation. Besides, adopting exonormative norm, i.e. American English or British English is still used in the common teaching practice.

Dalam beberapa keperluan, yaitu dalam rangka membantu user yang belum mempunyai pengalaman tes TOEFL atau bagi user yang ingin belajar lebih dahulu sebelum mengikuti tes TOEFL perlu ada sebuah alat bantu untuk mengakomodasi kebutuhan user ini. Selain itu ada kebutuhan lain dimana user merasa perlu mengetahui skor TOEFL untuk menentukan apakah user tersebut perlu mengikuti TOEFL Preparation atau tidak. Sehubungan dengan itu perlu dibuat sebuah aplikasi guna membantu dan mempermudah user untuk belajar dan mengetahui besarnya skor TOEFL. Indonesia, ditahun 2013, jumlah Pengguna Internet telah mencapai 74,57 juta, termasuk diantaranya 31,7 juta 'Netizen'. Jumlah Pengguna Komputer lebih banyak lagi daripada Pengguna Internet. Para Pengguna Komputer itu amat rentan terhadap RSI (Repetitive Strain Injuries) yang bisa berwujud gangguan fisik sebagai MSD (Musculo-skeletal Disorders) atau CVS (Computer Vision Syndromes, maupun berwujud aneka gangguan mental.
