However, foreign workers have not been treated as a potential determinant. Therefore, this research embarks on an investigation into the impacts of energy use, foreign workers and tourist arrivals on CO2 emissions in Malaysia from 1982 to 2018. An ARDL approach was employed, and the findings showed that natural gas and electricity use insignificantly influence CO2 emissions. Tourist arrivals, coal use and oil use were found to positively influence CO2 emissions, while foreign workers and population growth insignificantly influence CO2 emissions. It was found that in the early stages of development, higher GDP negatively influences CO2 emissions, but in the final stages, higher GDP positively influences CO2 emissions. These findings are important for formulating policies to reduce environmental degradation stemming from higher CO2 emissions. Malaysia...

As they are considered Pakistani in a primordial sense, lots of attempts were made to send them back to Pakistan, their ideological home. But due to diplomatic failure and several other reasons, only a few people could repatriate, left majority behind. But they could never assimilate here. As a result, their identity crisis began. The government of Bangladesh, considering their despondent condition, declared them as citizens of Bangladesh. But still there remain difficulties in achieving full functioning citizenship status since they have not fully integrated into the society as a whole. This study aims to reveal the current condition of the Bihari identity crisis and the degree of assimilation to the Bengali society and culture. By adopting a qualitative approach, it took stratified sampling method to collect data. Data were c...

New micromixers were proposed and compared with an efficient passive mixer called a Two-Layer Crossing Channel Micromixer (TLCCM), which was investigated recently. The computational evaluation was a concern to the mixing enhancement and kinematic measurements, such as vorticity, deformation, stretching, and folding rates for various low Reynolds number regimes. The 3D continuity, momentum, and species transport equations were solved by a Fluent ANSYS CFD code. For various cases of fluid regimes (0.1 to 25 values of Reynolds number), the new configuration displayed a mixing enhancement of 40%–60% relative to that obtained in the older TLCCM in terms of kinematic measurement, which was studied recently. The results revealed that all proposed micromixers have a strong secondary flow, which significantly enhances the fluid ki...

However, healthcare providers have limited information resources on the effects of recreational cannabis in people with diabetes. This rapid review was commissioned by Diabetes Canada to synthesize available evidence to guide recommendations for care of people 13 years of age and older who live with diabetes. Methods PubMed, Embase and PsycINFO databases were searched from January 2008 to January 2019. Study selection, data abstraction and quality appraisal were completed by pairs of reviewers working independently and discrepancies were resolved by a third reviewer with pilot tests completed before each stage to ensure consistency. Data collected from included studies were tabulated and summarized descriptively. Results The search resulted in 1848 citations of which 59 publications were selected for screening, resulting in six observational studies (2 full-text...

Although the design of buildings is based on the fact that they need to withstand all the loads exerted on the structure, failure occurs as a result of inadequate design and modeling techniques, particularly for abnormal and extreme loading conditions. Once one or more load bearing member is eliminated from the structure, progressive collapse, mainly in columns, will commence. By the time a column is eliminated from the structure as a result of a sudden motor vehicle strike or earthquake or fire or any other internal or external factor that could take one column out of the system, the weight of the building (gravity load) will be distributed among other columns within the structure. Failure commences in the part of the structure that has lost a column unless other columns are designed appropriately against gravity loads and are capable of redistribution of additional loads imposed on them. Failure of vertical load bearing elements will continue until the stabilization of extra loading. Hence, this could lead to serious damage and collapse of the building which will lead to higher damage to the building than the primary damage. This research is based on the regulations conforming to the specifications of UFC guidelines and the structures have been modeled using SAP2000 (2012). In order to study the effects of the progressive collapse on the seismic design of special steel moment frames, SMRF, two 5-story and 15-storystructures are modeled in SAP2000 (2012). In order to have a better understanding of progressive collapse and obtain reliable results, Linear Static (LS), Nonlinear Static (NLS) and Nonlinear Dynamic analyses (NLD) procedure for single and 2 adjacent columns removal have been implemented in this study. Having a good perception of the possibility of progressive collapse involves incorporation of demand capacity ratio, plastic hinges formation and vertical displacements of removed column's location plus axial force in columns adjacent to the removed column. Other factors such as number of stories and the amount of local damage resulted from the removal of 2 adjacent columns could also lead to a better understanding of the structural behavior.

Location of these faulty devices can be problematic as the devices are often buried under several layers of conducting interconnect. By imaging the magnetic field produced by current flowing in an IC a faulty device can be located. In this paper we present experimental results on imaging current-carrying faults on integrated circuits using Magnetic force microscopy. We have experimentally determined that MFM is capable of measuring currents as small as 1 to 10 microampere on ICs in a 30 Hz bandwidth. We have carried out modeling calculations comparing the simulation results with experimental results using realistic MFM tip geometry. From these results we have devised a method to accurately locate the position of the internal current carrying faults from MFM images with micrometer uncertainty.

Using detailed accounting data and an extensive control for firm-specific characteristics, we find that alternative proxies of cash flow shocks explain a significant part of the variation in firm-specific returns. The effect, however, is not uniform across market sectors. Although greater foreign shareholding in a firm is important to establish a stronger positive linkage between cash flow shocks and stock returns variation prior to the Asian financial crisis, this condition is not necessary after the Korean market was fully opened up to the foreign investors in the post-crisis period.
