Fifteen university badminton players (mean age = 22.07 ± 1.39 years old) were recruited and were assigned to perform SFL and JFL while holding a badminton racquet using their dominant hand. For both dominant and non-dominant leg, all the force variables during JFL were significantly higher compared to SFL. Results also showed that time to peak force and stance time was significantly shorter during SFL compared to JFL. Besides that, all the forces variables were greater in the dominant limb compared to the non-dominant limb. Time to peak force and stance time were also shorter in dominant limb compared to the non-dominant limb. To conclude, coaches and athletes need to be aware of the mechanical demands during both lunge method and the assymetries that exist in terms of force production between both sites of limbs.

Research paper thumbnail of A study of closure in a nursing textbooks and journals: A corpus based study

International Journal of ADVANCED AND APPLIED SCIENCES, 2017

The prime aim of the study is to measure the degree of closure of one form of clinical language (... more The prime aim of the study is to measure the degree of closure of one form of clinical language (specifically nursing textbooks and journals) in order, first, to determine whether these two restricted forms of clinical language can be rightly categorized as a sublanguage; second, to understand better the linguistic features of the language of the nursing domain; and finally, to better understand the nature of sublanguage. In this study, nursing textbook and journal corpora are compared to weather reports and the BNC Sampler. The findings show that none of the linguistic inventories of these corpora approach closure. Investigations conducted on the weather reports show that the corpus approaches closure at many levels. The BNC Sampler, however, behaves exactly as unconstrained language is expected to. The findings show that the nursing textbooks and journals seem to belong in a middle area between highly constrained language and highly unconstrained language. The findings of the study reveal that the idea of a sublanguage is problematic. The original definition of a sublanguage seems to clearly divide sublanguage or constrained language from unconstrained language and placing both as a dichotomy between two discrete categories. However, the findings regarding the nursing textbooks and journals seem to show that there is no explicit or clear-cut boundary that divides constrained language from unconstrained language.

The study design is a descriptive study which comprised students from three MARA Junior Science Colleges in Perak i.e. MARA Junior Science College Felda, MARA Junior Science College Pasir Salak and MARA Junior Science College Taiping. A total of 240 students were selected as study samples through convenient random sampling. Data was obtained from questionnaire forms and processed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17. Results of multiple regression tests showed that four predictors contributed 13.3 per cent. The major predictor which contributed the most was student objectives with a contribution of 6.8 per cent, the second largest predictor was planning which contributed 3.5 per cent, while the third largest predictor that is student tasks and enrichment activities contributed 2.10 per cent and the last predictor, student strategies and recitation methods contributed 0.90 per cent. These findings revealed the possibility that there could be several other factors which affected or influenced the impact on student conduct, which was not accounted for in this study. On the whole, there are three main recommendations which look at the role of the management and administrator, the role of the teachers and students which require mutual cooperation for this program to succeed. In conclusion, a more comprehensive evaluation on implementation needs to be conducted to produce consistent results.

In recent years, however, interest in the teaching/learning vocabulary has revived and once again a number of linguists and language teachers are involved in attempts to facilitate vocabulary acquisition by the foreign learner of English. This paper introduces a technique of teaching/learning vocabulary that aims to make the task not only more enjoyable for both teacher and learner but also more meaningful. The technique in question is a variation of the so-called mnemonic techniques which seek to create an unusual association between the word form and its meaning. But the technique differs from the keyword technique in important ways. First of all, it makes no attempt to establish any link between the learner's first language and English. Secondly, it involves the learners taking timeabout 2 or 3 minutesto sketch an image of the word or expression under study. The programme requires the retraining of service teachers who are provided with draw upon their experience in conducting of 20 students in Sek.Keb.Serdang, Selangor. The feedback received from the students supports the vocabulary programmes from image sketching.

These skills are not specific but are skills which cut horizontally across all industries and vertically across all job from entry level to chief executive officer. It is beginning to be broadly accepted that the contemporary workplace is characterized by continuous change. One impact of the transformation is that lifelong learning has been identified as a means of developing human capital. It is widely believed that such dimensions of performance as learning, innovation and enterprise can be enhanced by placing greater emphasis on generic skills in teaching and learning process. The objectives of the study are to produce human capital with "first class mentality", identify the generic skills required to produce human capital with "first class mentality", incorporate the generic skills in the process of teaching and learning, assess the development of generic skills and discuss the barriers in teaching and learning generic skills. There are several reasons for the current perceived importance of the generic skills, the primary one being employment and industry-driven. To incorporate generic skills in teaching and learn ing, there are two approaches can be implemented that is diffusion model approach and infusion model approach. The other reasons are the need to remain competitive, need to acquire new knowledge in. a knowledge-based world and the need to socialize and interact in an interdependent world.

It grows out of a community of practitioners and researchers drawn from education and technology. The essence of mobile English learning mode is to make full use of the ubiquitous English language environment created by mobile devices, and help students turn English learning activities into rich and colourful one. In this paper, a series of mobile device-based English activities are designed, and experimental research is conducted between mobile and conventional learning. The study employs a non random sampling involving 60 students from Bachelor in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) course semester six. The collection of data conducted for a period of seven weeks. In this period pre-test (Comprehension test) was implemented to determine the same level of students' performances. Whereas post-test was conducted for, speech presentation and collaborative Identification and the data was analysis by using independent sample t-test and gain scores differences in post-test 1 and post-test 2) to determine the effectiveness between treatment and control group. The research conducted to answer 8 null hypotheses in the study and the result shows 5 null hypotheses accepted and 3 null hypotheses rejected. By conducting experimental research, we review the feasibility of the model and the effectiveness of mobile learning. Research has shown that this new learning model (mobile) has positive effects in promoting University Putra Malaysia students' interest towards English learning, as well as their mastery of knowledge and their development of collaborative learning skills. In addition, boys and girls shows there are no significant differences in speech presentation and collaborative identification in both groups.

There are only twelve years left for this to be achieved. Since the launching of the objective, much action has been taken to achieve this status. These actions are in the area of economy, social justice, spiritual strength, morality and ethics (Malaysia 1996). In order to become developed in this globalized era, Malaysia must become the chief player in producing products that are of world class standard. These kinds of products can only be produced if diligence and seriousness, along with efforts of creativity and innovation, exist in members of organizations. According to theory, diligence and seriousness will only come about when an excellent work culture has become the core of the organizational culture in any given organization (Md Zabid, Sambasivam, Azmawani (2004). To achieve this objective is not easy. Problems in delivery in Malaysia today has become an increasing concern, to the extent that the government is obliged to build a group of workers to ensure the implementation of work is more efficient and productive (New Straits Times, 8 February 2007:1). Even though the government of Malaysia has given instructions through Pekeliling Kemajuan Perkhidmatan Awam (PKPA) that every government agency is to regulate the quality of work culture on a daily basis since 1991, these instructions seems ineffective. Now questions have been raised on how many agencies are really putting into practice the PKPA instructions. How many government agencies are able to be accredited by ISO9000? What about Kumpulan Meningkat Mutu Kerja (KMK) and TQM? Through the author's experience, the implementation of PKPA is not encouraging. This question is if the existence of this problem is caused by organizational culture or work culture.

Research paper thumbnail of Leadership in the creation of excellent work culture
