Twenty health workers in the pediatric units of an obstetric and children's hospital, nine physicians and eleven nurses, took part in the research. Data were collected with the semi-structured interview technique using an 'information form' and a 'structured interview form'. Data were then subjected to analysis. Two themes were determined as "the views of healthcare professionals on children's rights" and "what can be done to better implement children's rights". In line with these themes; it was determined that healthcare workers mostly focused on children's right to life and development, and other rights were not mentioned much. It was determined that healthcare professionals thought that training should be given to raise awareness of children's rights. It is recommended that in-service training be provided to increase the knowledge and awareness of children's rights among health workers in pediatric units.

These viruses cause infection in most mammals including humans [1]. While human coronavirus infections are mostly self-limiting with a mild course, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronaviruses (SARS-CoV) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) posed a serious threat within the past 20 years with a mortality rate of 10% and 37%, respectively [2, 3]. A novel strain of coron-avirus appeared in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan in Hubei Province, China and spread quickly worldwide. This novel coronavirus was previously referred to as 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) and subsequently named as SARS-CoV-2. COVID-19 is the name given by the WHO for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. This novel microorganism was identified through research efforts prompted by the observation that affected patients had similar pneumonia symptoms ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: COVID-19 since the reporting of the first case of infection and its declaration as a pandemic, it caused morbidity and mortality in hundreds of thousands of people. In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of confirmed cases among children was relatively low, and therefore, data were limited. However, the number of pediatric cases has also risen markedly among children in the later stages of the pandemic. METHODS: Forty patients from 1 month to 18 years of age who presented to the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases of a tertiary research and training hospital between March 10, 2020, and May 31, 2020, with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 infection and whose combined oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab specimens tested positive on real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) were included in the study. RESULTS: Forty pediatric patients with a mean age of 109.1±66.1 months were included in the study. Among patients, 62.5% (25/40) were girls and 37.5% (15/40) were boys. The most presentation symptom was cough in 19 (47.5%) patients. Hydroxychloroquine (HQ) therapy was given as part of combination treatment to 15 symptomatic patients older than 72 months of age (72-143 months of age: 4 patient, 144-216 months of age: 11 patients). The mean time to a rRT-PCR negative test was 7.2±1.69 (4-10) days for the group receiving an HQ treatment protocol and 8.2±1.44 (6-11) days for the group receiving a non-HQ treatment protocol with no significant difference between the groups (p=0.054). CONCLUSION: In this study, it was shown that the use of HQ had no effect on the length of hospital stay and that there was no significant difference between patients in terms of epidemiological data.

Başvurular en Background and Design: Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a childhood enteroviral eruptive disease presenting with fever and cutaneous and mucosal lesions. It is benign and generally resolves spontaneously, but may sometimes result in systemic involvement. The purpose of this study was to share our clinical experience concerning patients who were followed with the diagnosis of HFMD established by the pediatric and dermatology clinics. Materials and Methods: We prospectively evaluated patients who attended our hospital with the complaints of fever and eruptions and received the diagnosis of HFMD based on the clinical findings between December 2014 and November 2015. Age, sex, month of presentation, presentation symptoms and duration of symptoms were investigated. Systemic and dermatological examination findings, laboratory results and tests such as echocardiography were reviewed. Results: Thirty-nine patients were included; 19 (48.8%) were girl and 20 (51.2%) were boy. The mean age of the patients was 29.8±27.9 (6-155) months. Six (15.3%) patients were in the 0-12 month age group, while only 3 (7.8%) were older than 60 months. Presentations were most common in September, June and October. The most common presentation symptoms were eruptions on the hands and feet (100%), fever (82.1%) and oral aphthae (79.5%). The lesions were most commonly observed on the hands (94.9%, n=37) and feet (87.2%, n=34) and in the mouth (79.5%, n=31). Cardiac involvement was determined in 3 (7.7%) patients. Nail changes were observed during monitoring in 10 (25.6%) patients. Conclusion: Our results show that the age of onset of HFMD in Turkey has decreased compared to that reported in the previous studies. Patients must be evaluated in detail in terms of clinical and laboratory findings showing severity of the disease. This study also shows that pediatricians/dermatologists collaboration is of great importance.

METHODS. Fifty-two patients with IDA and 54 healthy children between 3 and 16 years of age were enrolled in this study. After complete eye examinations were conducted for each participant, the choroidal thickness was measured using optical coherence tomography. Correlations between the choroidal thickness and clinical and laboratory parameters were also evaluated. RESULTS. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, central corneal thickness, or axial length (P > 0.05). The choroidal thicknesses at the foveal center were 303.13 6 27.14 lm in the IDA patients and 333.67 6 39.77 lm in the healthy control children (P < 0.001); additionally, the choroidal thicknesses at each point within the horizontal nasal and temporal quadrants were thinner in the IDA group. There were positive correlations between the choroidal thickness and hemoglobin (r ¼ 0.337; P < 0.001), mean corpuscular volume (r ¼ 0.305; P ¼ 0.001), iron (r ¼ 0.264; P ¼ 0.006), and ferritin (r ¼ 0.287; P ¼ 0.003) levels; however, there were no correlations between the clinical or ocular characteristics and the choroidal thickness. CONCLUSIONS. The patients with IDA had significantly thinner choroidal thicknesses than those of the healthy children. Choroidal thinning in childhood may be an early sign of deterioration in the ocular blood circulation, without any risk of atherosclerosis in advanced age in the patients with IDA.
