To reach this aim, the students' performance on texts with different levels of unknown vocabulary densities was examined. Another purpose of the study was to determine the threshold level of comprehending English texts of high school course book in grade three. Through determining this level, it would be possible to see what percentage coverage was set that above which comprehension would be adequate and below which comprehension would be inadequate. To conduct the study and reach the aims of the study, 50 students were randomly divided into five homogeneous groups. The subjects in each group answered to a reading comprehension test containing texts with different densities of unknown vocabularies (an intact text, and texts with 1% to 5% unknown vocabularies). At the end, the students were scored based on their performance on the reading comprehension tests. The ANOVA statistical analysis was used to determine the differences in the group performances on the tests. Results revealed that the students who took the intact texts performed better than those who took the tests with manipulated texts. ANOVA analysis confirmed such differences (F = 86.371, sig. = .00, p<0.01). A stepwise regression analysis demonstrated that there was not a threshold level set for the high school students which determines above and beyond the comprehension of texts.

To this end, 40 students aged 16 to 19 from Avaye Zaban Institute in Tehran during the academic year of 2015-2016 took part in this study. The data was analyzed through SPSS (21), using descriptive statistics and analysis of the results of the Nelson English Language Test, BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory, and Farhady et al. speaking proficiency scales. The results of this study showed that there was a significant relationship between EI and the intermediate Iranian learners' speaking performance. Besides, a significant relationship was found between their EQ scores and the amount of their English language proficiency on fluency. Finding of the study also showed that there was a significant difference in problem solving, independence, self-actualization, optimism, and self-regard components of emotional intelligence. This indicates that the emotional capacity of male and female students has developed differently, and they have their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to emotional intelligence.

In order for a text to maintain its go-togetherness, it should be both cohesive and coherent. That is, it should utilize cohesive devices such as Reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunctions, and lexical cohesion, the last one of which accounts for the state of coherence in a text. In this analysis, these five cohesive devices have been dealt with in each unit. Based on a calculated frequency, it was shown that the ellipsis and substitutions were the two cohesive devices, which were less often used, in the reading passages of this book. In addition, lexical cohesion pertinent to coherence was hardly used, causing the texts to be incoherent.

The purpose of this paper was to offer an introduction to teachings methods, generally, and post-method condition, specifically, for those who were beginning their studies in this field or whose knowledge of language teaching is tangential. Then it gave a brief overview of different teaching methods and, afterwards, elaborates on post-method condition. Throughout this paper, we will be covering three important characteristics of post method. First we concentrated on the concept of method which was rejected and substituted by another alternative definition. The second characteristic was teacher's autonomy which put different and new burdens on the shoulders of teachers. The final feature was sense of plausibility in which subjective evaluation of the teacher of himself is highly appreciated and backed.

They were at the same proficiency level (elementary level). Adults were studying the "Intro" book from the Interchange series and young learners, "family and friends 2". The grammatical points were taught deductively so that they could become more familiar with them and their errors could be removed. The classes were held three sessions per week, lasting six weeks. At first, Pre-test was administered and 40 students out of 60, whose scores were somewhat identical, were chosen. Their errors were categorized into morpho-syntactic and lexico-semantic ones. Towards the end of the course, a Post-test was administered. The errors were classified into the same two groups. Afterwards, the errors were analysed. The grammatical errors made by these two age groups could not be remedied during the whole term in the classroom. Errors of 20 young learners and 20 adults in four classes (each class consisting of 10 students) in the academic year of 2012 were examined. Findings showed that most of adults' errors were inter language errors, indicating the influence of the mother language, while most of young learners' errors were due to overgeneralization.

These behaviors are different in different cultures, in each culture, polite and rude behaviors are specific to the culture and thoughts of the people of that community. By comparing them, it can be seen that certain behaviors that are considered polite in one society may be rude in another society. The present study examines the measure of politeness used by male and female students according to the social status of the audience based on Lakoff’s (1975,2004) theory. Do students respond equally to the requests of different people in the university environment or does the position of individuals affect the variety of words and ...

Role-play was supposed to have a great impact on the understanding and producing linguistic functions and speech acts. Among all the functions introduced by Halliday (1985), three were utilized in this research. Heuristic function which deals with the use of language to ask for information about things, informative function dealing with the use of language to inform about external things, and the Interactional function which has to do with the use of language to interact socially with others. About 100 students, 60 females and 40 males high school students, were asked to participate in this research. Having assigned them into two groups of control and experimental ones, pre-test and posttest were run. In order to evaluate the results, ANCOVA test was administered. In order to homogenize the participants, Cambridge Placement was taken from among 74 students of the Iran Language Institute and 44 of them were chosen. Independent sample T-tests were used for between group comparisons. According to the hypotheses, Pre-task planning time allowed second language speakers to activate words and apply a series of problemsolving mechanisms prior to task performance and may take stress away from L2 speakers so that they can meet task demands and hopefully, stretch their interlanguage. The data can shed some lights on how production is affected by different degrees of cognitive complexity and also in pedagogic contexts can be easily manipulated to promote fluency and accuracy if planning time is provided. © 2016 Elixir All rights reserved. This study aimed to illuminate and investigate the two psychological and crucial factors influencing the writing performance: Self-efficacy (SE) and Test anxiety (TA). An attempt was made to assess the relationship among Self-efficacy, Test anxiety and writing performance. In so doing, after homogenizing the students as Intermediate ones via a placement test, two questionnaires of SE (Owen &Froman,1988) and Test anxiety (Suinn, 1969) were administered to 50 intermediate students. Having administered the questionnaires, the researcher asked the subjects to compose an essay on a general topic: 'The effects of TV on people's lives'. Based on the questionnaires, the subjects were divided into four groups: 1) High SE, High TA, 2) High SE, Low TA, 3) Low SE, High TA, and 4) Low SE, Low TA. The data collected from the questionnaires as well as the scores given to their writing performances were analyzed through SPSS (21.00). Results indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups of High self-efficacy, low test anxiety and Low self-efficacy, high test anxiety. The former group outperformed the latter one. The outcomes of this study can have benefits for both foreign language teachers and learners. They both can attain better results by focusing more on these two psychological factors in their roles. The findings of the present study demonstrated that more concentration ought to be placed on these two psychological factors in order to enhance students' writing performances.

The population of the research was all 486 'Laleh' primary school male students in the year of 2009-2010, among whom, 61 four-grade participants were finally chosen. They were randomly assigned into two groups (30 students in the experimental and 31 in the control groups). The data were collected via researcher-made questionnaire. Having been collected, the data were analyzed via a T-Test so that the means of the two groups in the pre-test and post-test could be compared. The results illustrated that the cooperative methodology had an effect on students' social skill development including respecting others, respecting rules and regulations, and thinking critically.

The results showed that gender had no significant effect on role-playing the Hal...

The second characteristic was teacher’s autonomy which put different and new burdens on the shoulders of teachers. The final feature was sense of plausibility in which subjective evaluation of the teacher of himself is highly appreciated and backed.
