The process, which simulates the solar radiation with support vector regression (SVR), was constructed. The inputs were monthly mean maximum temperature (T max), monthly mean minimum temperature (T min) and monthly mean sunshine duration ( \( \bar{n} \) ). Polynomial and radial basis functions (RBF) are applied as the SVR kernel function to estimate solar radiation. According to the results, a greater improvement in estimation accuracy can be achieved through the SVR with polynomial basis function compared to RBF. The SVR coefficient of determination R 2 with the polynomial function was 0.7395 and with the radial basis function, the R 2 was 0.5877.

Role of off-grid renewable energy in extending basic healthcare services to rural villages where ... more Role of off-grid renewable energy in extending basic healthcare services to rural villages where there is no grid extension or unreliable power supply cannot be over emphasized. This paper thus evaluated the technical and economic benefit of powering off-grid rural health clinic with renewable energy resources. The rural clinic selected as a case study in this paper is situated at Fatika rural village in northern Nigeria. Techno-economic analysis was carried out with HOMER software and the analysis found PV/diesel/battery best optimal configuration among other considered configurations. The results obtained proved greater potential of hybrid renewable energy system configuration consisting PV, diesel and battery in providing electricity to the rural health clinics far away from grid centers.

It consists of cost-effective two-arm bridge converter, coupling inductors, LC filters, buck converter and EV battery. Note that the conventional three-leg bridge structure is reduce to two-leg VSI structure, functioning like three-phase rectifier to converts power from ac-dc during the battery charging process. The third-leg and set of power switching devices are eliminate by directly connecting the grid phase with the negative terminals of dc-link capacitor. Therefore, third leg of the EV charger is use as a buck converter for battery charging. The charger controller ensures the rapid charging capabilities in constant current and constant voltage (CC-CV) modes, with additional functions of harmonic compensation capability, power factor correction, reactive power compensation and constant dc-link voltage. The experimental results verify the validity and effectiveness performance of the laboratory based EV charger prototype.

In this article, a transformer-less 3P3W SAPF (three-phase three-wire shunt active power filter) ... more In this article, a transformer-less 3P3W SAPF (three-phase three-wire shunt active power filter) integrated into the distributed energy network which embeds line-interactive UPS and bi-directional chopper-fed energy storage equipment. The proposed system operates in two operating modes of line-interactive UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with bi-chopper-fed battery energy storage stage. In normal mode of operation, the main power supply current charges the standby bi-chopper fed battery energy storage equipment, in addition to APF feature. When the main power supply is severed, it operates as a backup power source to the load. The feasibility of the distributed energy network is improved, by eliminating the transformer and reduced power component, to provide accurate performance, less cost and reduced size as compare to previous topologies. The PI (proportional integral) controller ensures the regulated sinusoidal voltage with unity power factor, phase amplitude, and low THD (total harmonic distortion) into the distributed energy grid. For proper batteries energy storage stage, active power filtering and UPS operation, the SRF (synchronous-reference-frame) method with PLL (phase locked loop) scheme is implemented. The test result of 5 kW prototype system tested in simulation and laboratory validates the claimed performance in the distribution power energy network.
