Social networking sites have become a part of life for almost everyone where people use to commun... more Social networking sites have become a part of life for almost everyone where people use to communicate their ideas and thoughts with one another. The present study is focused on the use of social networking sites by the students of Mizoram University (MZU), Aizawl, India. The survey method and random sampling technique has been used for the collection of data for the present study. 300 detailed questionnaires were distributed among the students of Under Graduate (UG), Post Graduate (PG), and Ph.D. Scholars of MZU where 262 duly filled-in questionnaires were received in total where 35% are UG, 38% are PG, and 27% is Ph.D. scholars. The analysis of the collected data is presented in tables and charts followed by the interpretation. The present study reveals that the majority of the students are aware of SNSs and using one or more than one social networking sites, where Facebook and YouTube are found as the most commonly used SNSs by the students of MZU.

The present study analyzes the use of Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library website of IIT, Guwahati. A questionnaire was prepared and distributed to 150 students of IIT, Guwahati randomly, out of which 147 duly filled-in questionnaires were received. It shows that all the respondents have awareness of both the institution website and library website. Majority of the respondents use the library website for accessing library resources, library services and study materials. 44.90% of the respondents feel that a special training on the use of library website will be useful.

With the help of ICT tools the libraries have brought up a good number of services which can be disseminated easily to their end users. While the websites form the gateway of an institution through online mode, the library website is a beautiful creation through which information and services can be disseminated. The present study is confined to the design and web contents of the library websites/ web page of 27 NITs. On the basis of the previous evaluations of websites with 108 criteria under the 13 headings were enumerated to analyze the contents of the NIT libraries website. The study revealed that NIT Allahabad takes maximum time (422.68 seconds) @ 56K connection rate for downloading their website where NIT Agartala takes the least with 5.48 seconds.

A detailed criterion has been developed with two variables “Yes” and “No” while conditional and additional scenarios were added as per the requirement. The present study was carried out on the library website/web page of the 19 IITs and 29 NITs. The study reveals that the score point of IIT Kanpur library website placed in the first position and NIT Agartala placed in the last position among all the engineering institution taken for the study. The study further suggested that the evaluation of libraries’ website must be done frequently so as to check the structure and information available in the website as well as to keep the website updated.

Library is a gateway of knowledge in academic institutions and library website/web pages are the primary source of information of an institution where they disseminate and provide access to information to the users. It becomes a trend for the library users to visit the library website instead of visiting physically. So, the library website must maintain regularly to providing useful information and it is also required to evaluate them timely and keep up with the changing pace of time. Academic library websites provide information about library and library services therefore it is necessary that evaluation of library website is very necessary with some prefixed parameters. Thus web content analysis became significant area of research in field of library and information science now a day.
