Research paper thumbnail of ePAMeT: Evolving Predictive Associative Memories for Time Series

Springer Nature, 2024

This paper offers for the first time a novel method for creating Predictive Associative Memories ... more This paper offers for the first time a novel method for creating Predictive Associative Memories of Time series (PAMeT), where a full set of time series variables is used to create a machine learning predictive model (global learning), and afterward, only a few temporal variables are used at a shorter time to recall the model on new data (local recall). Inspired by human brain processes, PAMeT-SNN leverages the braininspired SNN NeuCube and the concept of spatio-temporal associative memories (STAM). PAMeT-SNN is a 4-dimensional spatio-temporal structure. First, it encodes time series data into spike sequences that reflects on the changes in the data over time and then maps the temporal variables into the SNN using temporal similarity to define the spatial locations of the variables in the SNN. It then learns temporal associations between a full set of time series variables, thereby memorizing these temporal associations as spatio-temporal connections between neurons. These connections are activated when only part of the time series data is used to recall the model on new data. The proposed groundbreaking method is exemplified with PAMeT-SNN for predictive modeling on two distinct case study time series data sets: trade dynamics and commodity prices. In these case studies, the method effectively captures the intricate data dynamics, enabling accurate forecasting of future values using a minimal set of variables. The method has the potential to be applied in diverse domains. Impact Statement-As time series data are widely used in economics, finance, health, engineering, and environment, the proposed method offers a new trend in AI, where a PAMeT-SNN model is created globally on a large number of variables/data and recalled and updated locally on smaller subsets of variables/data.

International Journal of Biotechnology & Bioengineering | ISSN: 1307-6892, 2024

The present study focuses on integrating Machine Learning and Genomics, hereafter termed 'GenoLea... more The present study focuses on integrating Machine Learning and Genomics, hereafter termed 'GenoLearning', to develop Artificial Life (AL). This is achieved by leveraging gene editing to imbue genes with sequences capable of performing desired functions. To accomplish this, a specialized sub-network of Siamese Neural Network (SNN), named Transformer Architecture specialized in Sequence Analysis of Genes (TASAG), compares two sequences: the desired and target sequences. Differences between these sequences are analyzed, and necessary edits are made on-screen to incorporate the desired sequence into the target sequence. The edited sequence can then be synthesized chemically using a Computerized DNA Synthesizer (CDS). The CDS fabricates DNA strands according to the sequence displayed on a computer screen, aided by microprocessors. These synthesized DNA strands can be inserted into an ovum to initiate further development, eventually leading to the creation of an Embot, and ultimately, an H-Bot. While this study aims to explore the potential benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, it also acknowledges and addresses the ethical considerations associated with its implementation.

Identity management, through blockchain, can allow individuals to take ownership of their identity by creating a global identity (ID) to serve multiple purposes. For user security and ledger consistency, asymmetric cryptography and distributed consensus algorithms can be implemented. In addition, the digital identity platform would save citizens' time in accessing or exchanging their personal data and records. Instead of being required to appear physically before the service provider, the user may be provided with a digital ID through his/her personal device, such as a smartphone, through which he/she can share his identity details with the service provider, using distributed ledger technology (DLT).

Like a bookkeeper, it can manage all financial transactions including payments, settlements, fundraising, securities management, loans, credits and trade finance. It can outperform existing systems in terms of identity verification, asset transfers, peer-to-peer transfers, hedge funds, security and auditability. Blockchain-based decentralized finance (DeFi) is a new financial protocol. Being open and programmable, it enables various DeFi use-cases, including asset management, tokenization, tokenized derivatives, decentralized autonomous organizations, data analysis and valuation, payments, lending and borrowing, insurance, margin trading, prediction market, gambling and yield-farming, etc.

In addition, it can ease financial transactions, cash-flow, use of programmable currency, no-loss lotteries, etc. This paper aims to assess the potential of decentralized finance by leveraging the blockchain-enabled Ethereum platform as an alternative to traditional finance. The study also aims to find out the impact of decentralized finance on prediction markets, quadratic funding and crowd-funding, together with the potential challenges and solutions associated with its implementation.

In a stateful system, where the system's state is critical for operations, services must be aware of each other's availability and location. A service registry acts as a centralized directory, where VMs register their services upon startup. Other services can query this registry to discover needed components. This approach ensures that services in dynamic environments can reliably find each other, even when instances are created, terminated, or moved across VMs.

Alas, the complex world of today does not admit of that luxury. The modern systems developed by governments and businesses all over the world use individual identities for a large number of functions and delivery of services. Every day millions of people sign-up online to carry out a wide range of activities. With each transaction, the user leaves his digital foot-prints which has potential to compromise with specific personal information.

The present innovation has been accepted and documented by National Innovation Foundation - India... more The present innovation has been accepted and documented by National Innovation Foundation - India (Department of Science & Technology, Government of India); Appreciated by Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India; Awarded by Vijnana Bharti, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India; Commended by Mr. Narendra Modi, the Honorable Prime Minister of India; and finally endorsed with Presidential Award by Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, the Honorable President of India. ....... and with yesterday's proclamation of Union Home Minister to introduce Multipurpose ID Card, the present idea is all set to become a digital identity for 133.92 crore Indians.

Multipurpose ID is a combination of a Techno Smart Card carrying a 20-digit universal identification number to record the entire life time data of an individual and a touch screen Smart Cell Phone for electronic surveillance. Both the units can work separately or together. Such a unique system would replace all possible documents procured by an individual during his life time.

If implemented effectively, the Nation would have a red letter day in the history as the change will shape billion lives and bring respite to administrative machinery and public that has crumpled under the red-tape.

The existing identity management system is neither safe nor dependable. At every point, a citizen... more The existing identity management system is neither safe nor dependable. At every point, a citizen is being asked to identify himself through multiple government IDs like Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, and so on. Sharing multiple IDs leads to privacy concerns and data breaches.

The proposed system is a combination of Multipurpose ID and a Smart Cell Phone. The physical ID would be provided to everyone on the day of Census, with a unique 16-digit (20-digit in case of global cards) universal identification number. It would carry an IC to record life-time data of a citizen; comprising all significant endorsements; triply secured by an alpha-numeric password, finger-prints and retinal scan. Consequently, all information of the citizen would be available on one click, that too fully transparent and genuine.

Instead of being required to produce a physical form of ID, users could be provided with a digital ID through a personal device, like smartphone [Garg, 2017]. Using the same identification number, the user shall upload all his relevant details and documents (which will be saved in the IPFS or CAS) having hashed address stored in the blockchain. Blockchain offers secure storage of digital identities by providing decentralized, persistent, and immutable framework. It performs the middle and back office functions in a way that the Internet and the Web do to the front office. For data security and ledger consistency, asymmetric cryptography and distributed consensus algorithms can be implemented. The identity management, through blockchain, can allow individuals to have ownership of their identity by creating a national ID to serve multiple purposes.

‘One Nation - One Identity’ concept will revolutionize digitalization and bring qualitative transformation in the life of every Indian. Besides saving human resources, time, money and administrative complexities, the stack of files and papers in offices would also be reduced to fractional level. The Nation would have a red letter day as the change will shape billion lives and bring respite to administrative machinery and public that has crumpled under the red tape.

To fetch those documents either one stands in long queues or goes online. Here again, every e-site generates and asks for a new ID and password. This is how, instead of making things simple, these documents and online processes make life more confounded and miserable. The government officials are bogged down with applications for Aadhar, Licenses, Samagra-ID, Ration Card, EPIC, Passport, Bank Pass Books, ATMs, Vehicle Registration, Registries, Reports, Certificates and so on. Over and above, verification of these documents, at each level, is another deadly exercise.

Till date, not a single system, device or App has been invented, in any part of the world, to save humanity from the drudgery of stacking documents, followed by their photocopies, attestations, and verifications - a never-ending process. The present innovation has been conceived and designed to void this gap.

Researchers from the Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile have taken genetic sequences of chol... more Researchers from the Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile have taken genetic sequences of cholera & hepatitis virus and put together into tomato plants. The host plant then produced key proteins of both the pathogens, in the same way, as they do in conventionally created vaccines using cell cultures from animals or microbes. The tomato derived vaccine, so obtained, could easily be stored in the seeds of tomatoes themselves.

However, the threats of cross-pollination and food crop contamination cannot be overlooked. There may well be a possibility that the pharma-plant, containing vaccine, is fortuitously consumed by an animal, which may cause desensitization inside its gastro-enteric tract. Or the active substance could enter the groundwater and lead to harmful effects.

The author recommends that such risks must be addressed, without more ado, by using non-food plants like moss, tobacco etc. or by growing plant cell-cultures in a contained environment.

Most of the body’s cells have specific functions and fixed lifespans.

Cell death is part of a natural phenomenon called apoptosis, so that the body can have new and invigorated cells that perform better. Cancerous cells lack the components that instruct them to stop dividing and lead to cell death. As a result, cancerous cells form tumors, impair the immune system and consume bulk of oxygen and nutrients preventing normal cells to get their share.

In practice, the procedure is carried out by inserting a fragment of desired DNA into another DNA molecule, a vector, and allowing this chimeric molecule to replicate inside a fast replicating living cell such as bacterium.

Reproductive cloning makes duplicates of whole animals. Therapeutic cloning creates embryonic stem cells, which are used to develop tissues that can repair or replace damaged tissues.

In freshwaters, some are benthic, but many are found on the surface, floating at the mercy of winds and water currents. Under enriched conditions, these unicellular microscopic entities multiply profusely, amassed together and form scums. On lysis, they produce toxins that are not easily inactivated by laboratory equivalents of water purification process viz. flocculation-filtration-chlorination treatment. Even activated carbon, in small doses, falls short to yield desirable results. However, vast amount of charcoal can do so. Besides, activated carbon filtration, in combination with ionization, has been found effectual in neutralizing toxins.

He shared this vision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016 and expanded on it at the Indian International Science Fest, earning recognition from several Indian Ministries and prestigious honors, including the Presidential Award in 2017.

As technology advanced, Rishabh continued to refine his concept for tamper-proof, transparent, and secure identity systems. His proposals caught national attention, particularly regarding the privacy and security concerns of centralized databases like Aadhaar. In 2021, while at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rishabh proposed a 16-digit universal identity number supported by blockchain encryption, ensuring greater security and privacy. His notable lecture, "Global Identity through Blockchain," and three influential books: Self-Sovereign Identities (2021), One-World-One-Identity (2022), and Blockchain for Real World Applications (2023), earned him global recognition.

In 2023, Rishabh's vision was included in "India in 2047" initiative, led by former NITI Aayog Chairman Shri Rajiv Kumar. His concept of a self-sovereign identity, which gives individuals control over their encrypted data, served as a cornerstone of the National Blockchain Project aimed at creating a secure, decentralized identity system for Indian citizens.

Rishabh's vision is poised to transform identity systems for 140 crore Indians and beyond, laying the foundation for a more secure, scalable future.

Media Headlines, 2024

Imagine a world where the extraordinary abilities of Spider-Man and Batman aren't confined to fic... more Imagine a world where the extraordinary abilities of Spider-Man and Batman aren't confined to fiction but are a reality. This might seem like a far-fetched dream, but thanks to pioneering research by four young scholars in Bhopal, it’s now within reach. These researchers have developed a method to create artificial life using AI-powered DNA synthesis, making genetic modifications a reality. Their discovery could pave the way for "designer babies" and unlock possibilities once considered impossible.

The team behind this breakthrough includes Rishabh Garg, Anuja Vyas, Aamna Khan, and Mohammad Ajwan Tariq. Their research, recently published in the International Journal of Biotechnology and Bio Engineering, demonstrates how human DNA can be created and edited entirely through computational techniques. By using advanced algorithms, scientists can now theoretically design any genetic sequence - ushering in a new era of genetic engineering.

How It Works?
By applying advanced computational methods, DNA can now be synthesized from scratch. If this artificial DNA is inserted into a cell nucleus devoid of genetic material and fused with cytoplasm, the resulting organism with custom DNA could develop in about nine months - the typical human gestation period. This opens the door to the possibility of surrogacy for creating humans with tailor-made genetic traits.

What Does This Mean for the Future?
Designer Babies: With the ability to modify DNA, future generations could be born with specific, desirable traits - ushering in the era of genetically tailored humans.
Medical Advancements: Artificial DNA could revolutionize medical research, enabling the development of personalized treatments, vaccine testing, and even creating replacement organs.
Space Exploration: "Human robots" made from artificial DNA could be sent on space missions, reducing risks and improving astronauts’ chances of surviving in extreme environments.
Genetic Therapies: The power to edit DNA could lead to transformative therapies - curing genetic diseases and enhancing human capabilities in ways we’ve only dreamed about.

The Next Step
While this research opens exciting new possibilities, the next challenge lies in biological synthesis and lab trials. If successful, it could redefine medicine, ethics, and even the very concept of humanity. In essence, what once seemed like science fiction is now edging closer to science fact, thanks to these brilliant minds from Bhopal. The future of genetics is here, and it’s powered by artificial intelligence.

While global scientists continue to explore this frontier, this marks India’s first major breakthrough in the field. The research has been published in International Journal of Biotechnology & Bioengineering, and accepted for presentation at two prestigious international conferences - the International Conference on Genetics and Genomics (San Francisco, Nov 2025) and on Information Systems and Technologies (Moscow, Aug 2026).
The finding holds immense potential – can eliminate animal testing for vaccines and treatments; enable personalized drug testing based on individual traits such as age, height, and weight; automate surgeries and organ transplants to save human labor; and pave the way for artificial life - creating bots that mimic humans, animals, birds, and plants. However, the team emphasizes the need for in-depth discussions on ethics, regulations, and control before the research is finally rolled out.
This breakthrough represents a significant leap in both therapeutics and reproductive biotechnology, marking an exciting moment in science !

All are discrete with no inter-linkages. At each level, one needs to have a series of documents, some of which need periodical renewal. To fetch those documents either one stands in queues or goes online. Here again, every e-site generate and ask for a new ID and password. This is how, instead of making things simple, these documents and online processes have made life more complicated and confounded. Over and all, verification of the documents is another tedious exercise. The present idea would overcome all these impediments and would make life simpler in real sense.

All-purpose Smart Card with 20-digit code number would serve as his roll number, enrollment number, registration number, bank account number, driving license number, vehicle registration number, mobile number, LPG gas number and so on. No additional number would be required for any purpose (except user ID or password, wherever applicable) so that whatever he does, during his lifetime, shall be recorded on this unique number only. Since the number would be protected by password as well as biometric impression, only the individual himself or a competent authority, duly appointed as per provisions of law, shall have right to make access to the record. At the same time, all information of the individual would be available on single click.
