Apparently, the default for community tags is that the maintainers can create and change tags, but the members can only use the existing tags, but can add them to anyone's entry. In some ways this is a good thing, but in some ways, it's not. The pros are that that way people don't end up using different tags that mean the same thing (kr fanfic vs knight rider fan fiction). It also means that people can't come along, join, make a tag called badfic and tag everyone with it before running away. The cons, ah, yeah. You have to type in the tag exactly how it appears in the community list or it won't get added to your entry and right now, the tag list doesn't appear in the upload clients, so kind of a pain. The other big con is that tags have a security level based on the most public entry they've been used on. There is a tag management page that lets the maintainers enter in a whole bunch of tags, BUT if they haven't used in a public entry by a maintainer, no one can see them or use them. Kind of a bug in that, I'd say (I send LJ Help a post about that, we'll see).
All that being said, here is the public entry with all the tags I've added so far. All the members user names are tags so you can tag your stories/art/general posts that way if you'd like. There are general tags, and story type tags, and character type tags, etc. If you have an idea for a tag that you'd like added, post about it and Tomy or I will add it.
I'm hoping they change things a little as far as the managing of tags go, but if not, I'll try to post these again only in some sort of category grouping so that it's easier to find the tags you're looking for.

cool, good tags you've set up.
all i do when using my client is make the post, then pop back into read it, click the tag button and choose the tags i want, highlight them, and bobs your uncle. you don't gotta type them or anything. i think it'll work great.

Thanks. Let me know if you think of any that should be added.
Yeah, that's the way it'll have to be done, but maybe in the future the clients will be able to download the list of tags (like the list of your icons) so that it can be done from the clients.
Oh yeah, didn't I mention that -- since you have a tag, you have to use it. ;-)

I've got a question about these tags that hasn't been mentioned: How do you actually use them? Is there some kind of button, or some kind of command...?

It's not the most user friendly thing right now, but if you post as usual and then click on 'Leave a Comment' you get to the individual post page. Right between the icon for the blue pen and the green arrow is a blue and white icon (which kinda looks like a pencil on paper. If you click that icon, you get the Tag Management page. If you scroll down to the bottom, there is a list on the left side of all the available tags for the community. You can click on a tag and it will be added to your post. If you hold down control and click another tag, you'll get both of them, etc. When you have the tags you want, hit Save Changes and your post is tagged.

Any chance you can add a poetry tag that we can use? We don't write just story-form fanfics, you know. BTW, I've been fiddling around with the tags. Thanks!

Ooh, I definitely like the tags idea. The fact that I have my own tag compels me to go make and post more icons, which I will do. Eventually. *dies*
Went back and tagged the entry which I posted
because I'm procrastinating on assignments

~still trying to figure out where my Bonnie fic chaps went poof too~ O.o; I'm trying to hunt through the archives for them for ya but I can't remember when I posted them. Woops? ^^; ~doesn't help I want to stop an re-read all the ficcys in there~

They may not be in the archives because I haven't been keeping up with them (I'm a bad comm maintainer). Don't worry about it if you can't find them. Nutty and I are talking about going back and tagging the old entries. I just meant the newer entries and posts from now on. Thank you though!
