It's harvest time for garlic and onions here in the Tucson area and Agua Linda Farm will once again be having their Garlic and Onion Festival, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 8, 9 and 10 from 4pm to 10pm. Agua Linda Farm is located south of Tucson, conveniently right off of the I19.Admission is $5 a car and includes scenic hayrides, a petting zoo and live music. The Garden Grill will be offering tasty garlic- and/or onion-based foods (as well as other items) and you can stock up on fresh garlic and onions grown right there on the farm, supporting our area's local agriculture. Agua Linda Farm is a sustainable, direct to consumer operation reminiscent of the diversified family farms of the past. They use natural pest and weed controls and their beef cows are grass pastured, antibiotic and hormone free. They grow a variety vegetables year round and provide seasonal, naturally grown and raised foods that are available at their farm store (either via "u pick" or they have picked) and at a handful of restaurants and food co-ops. They do not grow on the commodity level.More information about Agua Linda Farm can be found directly at their site or on their Facebook pageSupport your local growers and come out for a great evening!Tags:activities, culture, dining, food, gardening, music, nightlife, tourism (Leave a comment)
Hello Tucsonans! So i recently moved into a new house with lovely gardens and a drip irrigation system that i don't really know how to use (i.e. it only appears to work in some parts of the yard and not others). I was hoping to get some good recommendations on places i can call for irrigation repair and consultation. I know that Realm is one good option, but i have no idea how much it might cost. So (1) does anyone have any experience with Realm and can give me more information and/or (2) can recommend any other/better places i can call. I'm also considering getting one of those water harvesting barrels connected to my roof's gutterpipe. Thanks in advance! Tags:gardening (2 comments | Leave a comment)

Agua Linda Farm invites the community to enjoy the local harvest with their first SLLOEW Dinner and live music event on August 24. $40/person, by reservation only.6:15-8:30pm The 4 to 5 course set menu will be prepared on site and will feature fresh vegetables harvested that day at Agua Linda. The menu will also incorporate grass fed beef and other local foods. In the spirit of the slow-food movement, we like to call this a "SLLOEW" Dinner (using farmers Stewart and Laurel Loew's names). The final decisions on the menu will be decided after the harvest, but the star of the show will definitely be Agua Linda farm fresh TOMATOES! August 24 was chosen for this event due to the full moon which is scheduled to make its appearance just before 7pm - if the monsoons don't steal the show! Either dramatically beautiful display will be welcomed for all to enjoy! (the dining tent will be ready in case of rain).More information about this event can be found on the Agua Linda Farm website, here.Tags:activities, conservation, culture, dining, food, gardening, nightlife (Leave a comment)

Community Gardens of Tucson has entered the "Nature’s Path $50,000 Gardens For Good Grant Contest" to put a community garden at the Tucson House. This is a low income area of Tucson and could really benefit from a garden. This grant (the details of which can be found here) is going to be awarded via a straight-up popularity contest, which means that the award is given based on which project gets the most votes from the public. CGT would appreciate it if any of you would go ahead and vote for their project. You can vote once per email address. There are only about 10 days left to vote, so please don't put it off. And tell your friends! Let's bring this award to TucsonThank you!Tags:charity, gardening (Leave a comment)
In light of the recent gardening questions, I thought this information might be appreciated. This is a pretty drive and it's always nice to see their farm. I'm copying all the following text right from their informative email:( News from Native Seeds/SEARCHCollapse )Tags:gardening (Leave a comment)

Does anyone know about gardening in Tucson? I'm looking for hints and ideas for successful gardening, and also some specific questions about the plants I already have, much of them suffering needlessly at my hand. ;-)T.I.A.Tags:gardening (6 comments | Leave a comment)
