Considering the recent interest in products and services related to the urban environment, this research considers the relevance of the participatory design process to the wellbeing of citizens. Some recent experiences demonstrate that the inclusion of citizens in the design process has increased the sense of belonging. These empirical approaches, however, need to be better understood in order to contribute to a strategic design. The understanding of what kind of elements and processes reinforces or creates the sense of belonging may help with structuring the design process. The growing use of locative media related to the urban space and its use demands from designers a new role in designing products and services for cities. Studies in progress focus on companies, with the use of crowdsourcing data associated with product improvements. Few studies highlight the importance of understanding population data by urban agencies and planners, without data that evidence the use of design management associated with crowdsourcing. RESUMO Este artigo discute os temas crowdsourcing, gestão de design e cidades in-teligentes, a partir de revisão bibliográfica assistemática e sistemática. O crescente uso de mídias locativas relacionadas ao espaço urbano e sua uti-lização vêm demandando aos designers nova atuação no projeto de produ-tos e serviços para as cidades. Estudos em andamento possuem como foco empresas que utilizam dados do crowdsourcing associados a melhorias em produtos. Este artigo apresenta uma discussao teorica a respeito do conceito de inovacao e a atividade de d... more Este artigo apresenta uma discussao teorica a respeito do conceito de inovacao e a atividade de design, sob o ponto de vista da interdisciplinaridade. As inovacoes ocorrem quando um novo processo, produto ou servico e introduzido no mercado ocasionando uma vantagem competitiva para a empresa que a desenvolve. Porem, as inovacoes radicais ocorrem quando os investimentos no desenvolvimento acontecem a partir do cruzamento de informacoes nao operadas teoricamente ou praticamente no setor. Neste sentido, a interdisciplinaridade e um ponto determinante para o design de novos produtos. Com isso, este estudo buscou relacionar a inovacao e a interdisciplinaridade na busca por contribuir para uma epistemologia para o campo do design. Os resultados destacam a formacao, a partir desse quadro, de uma quasi ciencia de base tecnologica, com o carater de uma interdisciplinaridade instrumental.

Ser uma cidade inteligente tem sido uma estratégia adotada por várias cidades. Com base nas tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC), cidades inteligentes visam atrair investimentos, aumentando a competitividade, e, assim, melhorar a qualidade de vida de seus moradores e visitantes. Por isso, a geração de objetos e elementos de comunicação disponibilizados pelos municípios, tanto na forma física quanto na digital, faz parte desse processo. This work presents a systematic review of the Design Management research in the whole country of ... more This work presents a systematic review of the Design Management research in the whole country of Brazil. Focusing on existent research groups, it sought to characterize a current design management research scenario. To do so, a systematic review was done considering the design management groups registered at National Council of Scientific Development-CNPq. As result, it was found 53 research groups located in thirteen Brazilian Federal States working with nine different research themes. The results made possible to discuss the group's geographical distribution, the progress of the studies, the growth of the groups over time. It also suggests, towards the advancement in the area, the creation of a research network.

As long as market concurrency becomes a global issue, a pressure upon companies towards a better ... more As long as market concurrency becomes a global issue, a pressure upon companies towards a better performance develops, aiming a better efficiency and competitiveness. So, on the contrary, risks of survival maintenance appears. In this context, design management, in its strategic, tactic and operational levels, together with modern techniques of production management, becomes the base for modularity application. This article studies the relation between the concept of modularity and design management, to improve the performance of an automotive manufacturer. Taking the case of a Brazilian Volkswagen plant in São José dos Pinhais, the discussion is made upon related bibliography, documental resources, observation and informal interviews. As result, presents some important factors aiming a better integration between design management together with general strategies towards modularity and production system.

The objective of the article is to compare the Engineering and Design fields in relation to the P... more The objective of the article is to compare the Engineering and Design fields in relation to the Product Development Process (PDP). In both areas we can identify different methodologies that guide, each one under its own optic, the Product Project. Although aiming the same objective, the Product Development, these two fields present a certain disconnection, if we compare the models presented in the literature. This can be explained by the fact that Engineering traditionally develops the products with emphasis in the technical aspects of the products and Design investigates the interfaces of the users with the products. Considering this, this article consists in a theoretical discussion regarding to an appropriation of planning models of the Product Development by the Design field, from the problem solving process as well as the systematization and coordination of the creation activity. As conclusion, the work presents a methodological systematization with the implementation of new techniques for the process of Design, focusing at the trends adopted for the corporations that search constant innovation, efficiency of the products and services, and adaptation to the changes, among others factors.

The present paper explores the implications of the various value dimensions on the design of low-... more The present paper explores the implications of the various value dimensions on the design of low-income houses using Holbrook's value typology. The case study involved an in-depth investigation on 40 houses chosen through a non-probabilistic approach within a single building project in Brazil. The study has brought insights on other dimensions of value that are often neglected on the construction literature. The researchers concluded that houses have to be considered as a comprehensive product that cannot be divided in separated parts during the design briefing. Similar to what happens in the car industry, value requirements for furniture, curtains, carpets, and all other products that take part on the building, need to be evaluated all together in order to obtain a briefing that best describe the customer value. Este artigo apresenta o resultado de um estudo que buscou identificar condutas, técnicas e boas p... more Este artigo apresenta o resultado de um estudo que buscou identificar condutas, técnicas e boas práticas relacionadas à privacidade de dados, que podem ser incorporadas ao processo de design centrado no usuário, no âmbito do design de serviços e design inclusivo, utilizando a Internet das Coisas (IoT). É importante identificar novas diretrizes que possam ser incorporadas ao design de serviços e ao design inclusivo em virtude das novas legislações. Este estudo foi apoiado por uma Revisão Bibliográfica Sistemática, abrangendo 150 artigos em um período de 5 anos (2017-2021), nas bases de dados Web of Science, Scopus e no Portal de Periódicos da CAPES. Como resultado, traz uma lista de recomendações de boas práticas que podem ser adotadas em processos de design, especialmente para o modelo de Privacidade por Definição ou Privacy by Design (PbD).

O estudo é motivado pela constatação de que, apesar dos resultados positivos do impacto que as atividades de design geram para as empresas, gestores alegam existir ainda um déficit na comunicação entre designers (qualificadores) e executivos (quantificadores). Dessa forma, pesquisadores e designers buscam meios para validar o valor do design nos negócios. O método adotado apoia-se em uma revisão bibliográfica integrativa (revisão bibliográfica sistemática com uma revisão bibliográfica narrativa), apresentando como resultado um quadro teórico qual visa fomentar o objetivo deste estudo. Finalmente, a mensuração do impacto da gestão de design no ROI se mostra complexa. Lacunas são apontadas sobre o valor multifacetado do design.

This concept is associated with the interaction of consumers in creating value for the PDP. Thus, this paper discusses the measurement of user experience as an important factor for the coproduction of value through mechanisms that measure the usability of products. Thus, the User Experience can be treated as a core competency in design management within organizations. This study was conducted through literature review of the principles of Design and Management, User Centered Design, User Experience and about the function of the design department market research through mechanisms of consumer involvement. Shows the correlation of these approaches and issues for further research aimed at Measuring the User Experience with results that can enable feedback into the process of developing new products or incremental and radical innovation.

Worldwide there is a growing focus on how Design and other creative skills can contribute to the ... more Worldwide there is a growing focus on how Design and other creative skills can contribute to the process of rapid urbanization seen over the past decades. The growth of cities accelerates the search for technical and social solutions design that can meet the challenge of creating sustainable urban environments in large scale. However, design solutions experienced by developed countries to overcome structural faults common in the provision of services and policies are still either nonexistent or insipid Brazilian cities. This article seeks to understand the dynamics of design insertion in the public sector in other countries and, based on this information; propose a means of rapprochement between the municipal government and designers in Brazil. The action taken was based on a research interest of the municipal government of a small city in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Tindered by a research project sponsored by the Universidade do Contestado, in partnership with the city of São Bento do Sul. This joint effort took place by means of questionnaires served to a sample and that led to the addressing of several issues related to overall perceptions on the quality of life, quality of infrastructure in the city, and participation in municipal decisions. The results are part of a set of information that indicates the level of sustainability of the place and may be found in the UN Global Cities Programme. The main result of this action was the rapprochement between the government and academia. The latter has the means to carry out the research design strategies (research focusing on end users), following design assumptions (user is the center) and involving the various stakeholders in a common goal (participatory research). The results obtained were indicated the areas of greatest deficiency and interest in the community's point of view. Conversely, having this information, the academy, using Design, has the opportunity to propose projects for specific solutions to problems and thus make room for future actions.

Entende-se por gestão do design a sua utilização pelas empresas como parte fundamental para a tomada de decisões estratégicas, planejamentos, orientação produtiva e de mercado. O tomou como base inicial uma pesquisa teórica acerca a gestão de design, seus conceitos e de ferramentas de avaliação. Com base nestes dados foi elaborado um Questionário de Avaliação do Grau de Apropriação do Design, que foi aplicado no estudo de caso, junto a uma empresa local (Curitiba-PR) que atua tanto no mercado nacional como no mercado internacional. The case study involved an in-depth investigation on 40 houses chosen through a non-probabilistic approach within a single building project in Brazil. The study has brought insights on other dimensions of value that are often neglected on the construction literature. The researchers concluded that houses have to be considered as a comprehensive product that cannot be divided in separated parts during the design briefing. Similar to what happens in the car industry, value requirements for furniture, curtains, carpets, and all other products that take part on the building, need to be evaluated all together in order to obtain a briefing that best describe the customer value. Este artigo apresenta o resultado de um estudo que buscou identificar condutas, técnicas e boas p... more Este artigo apresenta o resultado de um estudo que buscou identificar condutas, técnicas e boas práticas relacionadas à privacidade de dados, que podem ser incorporadas ao processo de design centrado no usuário, no âmbito do design de serviços e design inclusivo, utilizando a Internet das Coisas (IoT). É importante identificar novas diretrizes que possam ser incorporadas ao design de serviços e ao design inclusivo em virtude das novas legislações. Este estudo foi apoiado por uma Revisão Bibliográfica Sistemática, abrangendo 150 artigos em um período de 5 anos (2017-2021), nas bases de dados Web of Science, Scopus e no Portal de Periódicos da CAPES. Como resultado, traz uma lista de recomendações de boas práticas que podem ser adotadas em processos de design, especialmente para o modelo de Privacidade por Definição ou Privacy by Design (PbD).

O estudo é motivado pela constatação de que, apesar dos resultados positivos do impacto que as atividades de design geram para as empresas, gestores alegam existir ainda um déficit na comunicação entre designers (qualificadores) e executivos (quantificadores). Dessa forma, pesquisadores e designers buscam meios para validar o valor do design nos negócios. O método adotado apoia-se em uma revisão bibliográfica integrativa (revisão bibliográfica sistemática com uma revisão bibliográfica narrativa), apresentando como resultado um quadro teórico qual visa fomentar o objetivo deste estudo. Finalmente, a mensuração do impacto da gestão de design no ROI se mostra complexa. Lacunas são apontadas sobre o valor multifacetado do design.

This concept is associated with the interaction of consumers in creating value for the PDP. Thus, this paper discusses the measurement of user experience as an important factor for the coproduction of value through mechanisms that measure the usability of products. Thus, the User Experience can be treated as a core competency in design management within organizations. This study was conducted through literature review of the principles of Design and Management, User Centered Design, User Experience and about the function of the design department market research through mechanisms of consumer involvement. Shows the correlation of these approaches and issues for further research aimed at Measuring the User Experience with results that can enable feedback into the process of developing new products or incremental and radical innovation.

Worldwide there is a growing focus on how Design and other creative skills can contribute to the ... more Worldwide there is a growing focus on how Design and other creative skills can contribute to the process of rapid urbanization seen over the past decades. The growth of cities accelerates the search for technical and social solutions design that can meet the challenge of creating sustainable urban environments in large scale. However, design solutions experienced by developed countries to overcome structural faults common in the provision of services and policies are still either nonexistent or insipid Brazilian cities. This article seeks to understand the dynamics of design insertion in the public sector in other countries and, based on this information; propose a means of rapprochement between the municipal government and designers in Brazil. The action taken was based on a research interest of the municipal government of a small city in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Tindered by a research project sponsored by the Universidade do Contestado, in partnership with the city of São Bento do Sul. This joint effort took place by means of questionnaires served to a sample and that led to the addressing of several issues related to overall perceptions on the quality of life, quality of infrastructure in the city, and participation in municipal decisions. The results are part of a set of information that indicates the level of sustainability of the place and may be found in the UN Global Cities Programme. The main result of this action was the rapprochement between the government and academia. The latter has the means to carry out the research design strategies (research focusing on end users), following design assumptions (user is the center) and involving the various stakeholders in a common goal (participatory research). The results obtained were indicated the areas of greatest deficiency and interest in the community's point of view. Conversely, having this information, the academy, using Design, has the opportunity to propose projects for specific solutions to problems and thus make room for future actions.
