The same homily is known in Coptic thanks to a complete Bohairic manuscript now kept at the Vatican Library, and some leaves of another Sahidic codex now preserved in Paris. In this article, the text of the Sahidic version of Basil's homily from CLM 562 will be partly confronted with that of the Bohairic version.

After some initial study by a student (P. N. M. van Arendonk) who explored the fragments’ provenance in an exam paper, two of them were published by his teacher Rob Salomons and the Amsterdam-based papyrologist Klaas Worp in 1985, whereas the other five have remained unpublished until now. In the context of a Radboud Summer School in Nijmegen in 2021, we studied the remaining fragments, and the current article presents editions of 5 further fragments (P.Noviom. inv. 1, 3, 5, 6 (descr.), and 7), prepared by the international group of graduate student participants under our supervision, as well as that of Daniela Colomo.

Thebes during the Byzantine era. An attempt will be made to reconstruct
some of the cultural features of this specific context by means of a methodology
that combines a historical-cultural perspective – that always has archaeological
contexts in mind – with the reasoning on statistical data relating to
various aspects concerning the Theban literary manuscripts. What is most
interesting is to investigate how the contribution of such a methodology can
help in the reconstruction of the different cultural contexts responsible for
the production, circulation, and conservation of literary manuscripts in Late
Antique Thebes. This, in light of a recently renewed interest in this context
that – even if not peripheral – certainly was not so central geographically
and culturally in the broader milieu of Christian Egypt.

The Theban area represents an exemplary case, because of the numerous vestiges of the Pharaonic era and of the dynamic environment that in the Byzantine period characterized the ancient capital, especially in its western part. The Theban Christian communities were able to maintain a close and functional relationship with those who were the reference points in the visual and symbolic horizon of the inhabitants of the necropolis. Hermitages, monasteries, topoi and laurae were installed in correspondence of ancient tombs and temples. Therefore, it was not the places that changed, but partly their use. This article aims to outline some significant cases of re-appropriation of spaces, underlining the ways in which each of the communities considered was able to relate in an original way with the archaeological contexts of which it took possession.
