The geographical proximity makes the two countries have a lot in common. However, this similarity does not guarantee that the two countries can coexist harmoniously. One of the problems in the relationship between the two countries is border-related issues, such as illegal fishing in the border area. This issue has been widely covered by the Indonesian mass media, including Metro TV and TVRI. This paper tries to see how Metro TV and TVRI reported the arrest of a Malaysian fishing boat near the border. This study uses a semiotic social visual analysis as a research method and the main theory of social reconstruction of reality. The research findings show Metro TV interprets this incident as illegal fishing and sovereignty violations. Meanwhile, TVRI interpreted this incident as illegal fishing and the achievements of the Indonesian marine police.

This study investigates human-wildlife conflicts in Khao Yai National Park, Thailand, and their impact on local support for park conservation. Semi-structured interviews were employed, and data was analysed using narrative analysis. Economic losses due to wildlife crop depredation were identified as the main cause of human-wildlife conflict, leading to less support from local people for conservation activities. However, it was also found that human activities are the root cause for wildlife disturbance. The respondents underlined that humans first trespassed on the lands of wildlife, negatively affecting their needs. Therefore, the potential for severe human-wildlife conflict greatly depends on human activities. This study suggests that planting vegetation at the park boundary to provide more sustenance to wild animals and to prevent them from coming out of the forest is critical for long-term success regarding wildlife conservation and human livelihoods.

News on Islamic environmental research on environmental journalism and news sources in Malaysia exist but the role of news sources on Islamic environmental news are largely unknown. Therefore, this study examines the roles of news sources and journalists in Islamic environmental news coverage in Malaysia, a country with an Islamic-oriented news media. By analysing the content of news articles and interviewing journalists at two mainstream Malaysian newspapers (Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian), this study found that news sourcing judgements at Utusan Malaysia compromised western and Islamic news values of public interest by preferring sources with knowledge on environmental issues rather than sources with Islamic knowledge; while Berita Harian cited more sources related to Islam. Arguably, preference for sources with Islamic knowledge in reporting Islamic environmental news serves readers' interest best and will guarantee audience rights and interests.

This paper attempts to discuss the unique relationship of the Batek with the forest, their daily sustainability practices and their perceptions of development. Arguing that the forest is their native lands, this study also focuses on the impacts of the national park on livelihoods of the aborigines. The data were collected from in-depth interviews with Batek respondents and participant observations at one of the Orang Asli settlements, Kampung Dedari. The findings reveal that the livings of the Batek people were highly inseparably linked to the forest; the forest is their true home with great dependence on the forest resources which they also claimed as their ‘supermarket’. Not just important for food subsistence, it has been found that the forest also shapes their customs, traditions, and beliefs about the spirits of the nature. They also regard themselves as the ‘wildlife...

Despite some evidence from previous studies indicating that WhatsApp played a major role as a tool for communicating on health crises in African nations, such research in Nigeria is still quite scant. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore (i) why journalists use WhatsApp to disseminate information about COVID-19; (ii) how did journalists use it and (iii) how does WhatsApp help them in achieving their job satisfaction. 21 journalists with more than six years working experiences in communicating health issues were purposively selected for this study Findings revealed that journalists use WhatsApp because they are familiar with the apps, it is simple to use, and it is more effective than other social networking sites. A total of 200 respondents consisting of the Besut District Department of Marine Parks (Terengganu) staff, local entrepreneurs and tourists were selected to answer the survey questionnaire. The findings revealed a difference in the level of awareness among stakeholders, with the Besut District Department of Marine Parks (Terengganu) staff has the highest level of awareness, on eco-touristic activities that threaten coral reefs and the issue of coral reef bleaching. Although the three groups of stakeholders have shown high level of awareness on the importance of coral reefs conservation activities in Perhentian Island, majority of them were uncertain about their involvement in conservation efforts due to conflict of interest between economic empowerment and their aim towards sustainability of coral reefs.
