Problem-Based Learning model in improving critical thinking ability of elementary school students

Advances in Mobile Learning Educational Research

So far, elementary schools have found problems with students' critical thinking skills, which could be improved by implementing thematic learning, so a learning model is needed to train students' critical thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze whether there were differences in the level of effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model in improving critical thinking skills in thematic learning of students in grade IV SD/MI, namely SDN II Weringinanom Poncokusmo Malang, East Java, Indonesia. This type of research is Classroom Action Research using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The subjects used in the study were class IV teachers and 46 students. The results showed an increase from cycle I to cycle II. The implementation of the teacher cycle I was 80.73%, increasing to 91.76% in cycle II and 85.09%, increasing to 92.96% in cycle II on student implementation. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model has improved integrated thematic learning in fo...

Efforts to improve the quality of education in Indonesia at this time are unceasingly continued by education experts. Based on learning outcomes data obtained by fourth grade Elementary School student of Sawunggaling VIII / 389 in Surabaya City through the application of Problem-based learning models in social studies learning has increased. Classical learning completeness of students has increased by 14.74%. In addition, the development of student learning outcomes on the affective and cognitive aspects also increased. The type of research used in this research is Classroom Action Research. This study uses a qualitative and quantitative descriptive method with research procedures including (1) action planning, (2) implementation of actions, (3) observation and evaluation, (4) analysis and reflection. The activities of teachers and students during the implementation of the contextual learning model in social studies learning have increased. This is indicated by the percentage of students' critical abilities in the first cycle of 67.95% and there was an increase in the second cycle of 82.69%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the problem-based learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills in elementary schools. .

Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Education Innovation (ICEI 2018), 2018

The purpose of this study is to improve learning activities and skills of critical thinking through the implementation of learning models based on problems in fourth-grade students. This is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. The subjects were 34 students of grade IV of primary school. Data was obtained from the observation and test. Data analysis technique used is descriptive quantitative. The finding of the research analysis indicates that learning through the application problem-based learning model can increase the learners' activity and critical thinking skills. The average percentage of students' activity in the first cycle was 70.15%, increased in cycle II by 80.00%. Likewise, the average percentage of critical thinking skills of learners in the first cycle was 70.59% increase in cycle II by 78.31%.

The Effect Of A Scientific Approach With Problem Based Learning Model To Critical Thinking And Learning Results Students IV SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian

Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Education Innovation (ICEI 2018)

The fact that happened in the field during this perceived lesson IPS less able develop abilities students to thinking critically, solve the problem. Because the learning process in the classroom does not use the thinking strategy of learning. The learning process is only directed so that students can only master and memorize course material only. While critical thinking and problem-solving are indispensable in learning. So that the impact on student learning outcomes is still low. Based on the background, the researcher uses a scientific approach to learning problem-based learning model to improve critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes in IPS learning. The purpose of this research is to improve the ability of critical thinking and learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian through a scientific approach to the problem-based learning model. Implementation of this research using experiment by using a scientific approach with problem-based learning model by using two small class, that is an experiment class and control class. The subject of this research is the students of class IV as the experimental class and class IV B as the control class at SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian. The results showed that students' critical thinking ability increased in the control class at 67.97% and 83.8% for the experimental class. While the average result of student learner in control class is 69,02% and in experimental class 85,54%. The conclusion of this research is a scientific approach to problem-based learning model can improve the ability of critical thinking and student learning outcomes in IPS learning in SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian. For elementary school teachers, especially class IV, it is suggested to use a scientific approach with a problem-based learning model in IPS learning to improve critical thinking ability and student learning outcomes.

The subjects in this study were fourth grade students of Air Camar 11 Elementary School, consisting of 16 students consisting of 16 boys and 10 fe...

THE EFFECT OF THE USE OF PROBLEM BASED LEARNING MODEL TO THE CRITICAL THINKING SKILL OF STUDENT IN SOCIAL STUDIES LEARNING (Quasi Experimental Research in VII grade of 1 Lembang Junior High School)

International Journal Pedagogy of Social Studies, 2018

this study aims to know, analyze and evaluate the differences of students' critical thinking skills by using problem based learning model and conventional models. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with quantitative approach using Nonequivalent (Pretest-Posttest) Control-Group Design. The data collection technique used in this study is using the test. The data analysis technique is done by independent t-test sample. Moreover, this research shows the significant differences if seen from the average of percentage of experiment class; pretest is less while posttest is so gratified. The result of pretest control class is less and posttest is enough The results of this research give the recommendation for teachers and next researchers to apply problem based learning model to enhance critical thinking ability of students. In addition, problem based learning model is also expected to encourage students to be able to solve problems encountered in everyday life, especially in social studies.

Journal of Education and Learning (EduLearn), 2019

The previous research result showed that the learning model based on the investigation could increase the students' critical thinking skills. The aim of this research was to measure the effectiveness of the using of problem-based learning model to increase the students' critical thinking skills. The research design was quasi-experiment by using post-test only design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of science which contained 124 students of SMAN 6 and SMAN 7 Kupang that were chosen randomly. The treatment that was given in this research was problem-based learning model for the experiment class and conventional model for the control class whereas the given materials were the reaction rate. The instrument that was used in this research previously validated by two experts of theory and material. The result of this research showed that the students who studied in experiment class had different critical thinking skills better that the students who studied using conventional model.
