Impacts of Rural Women’s Traditional Economic Activities on Household Economy: Changing Economic Contributions through Empowered Women in Rural Pakistan

In Pakistan, as in other developing countries, rural women make ample contributions to the economy through vital productive and reproductive roles. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of women’s traditional economic activities that supplement their household economy directly through earning income and indirectly through savings expenditure and to assess the factors that influence their productivity performance. For this purpose, six rural areas from Khyber, which is located in the Pukhtoonkhwah province, were chosen to represent the south, north, and the central plain regions. About 480 women responded out of 600, which were selected using a snowball sampling technique from the entire three regions. Factors Affecting the Income of Rural Women: An Evidence from District Faisalabad, Pakistan

The fundamental point of the investigation was to assess the effect of various components on the pay of rural women in the region Faisalabad. For this, a stratified sampling procedure was utilized. At the first stage, the Faisalabad district was chosen purposively. In the second stage, five regions of each class were chosen through a simple random sampling technique. The total sample size was comprised of 150 respondents. A pre-tested questionnaire was used to gather the information from chosen respondents through the personal interview technique. Descriptive Statistics were used to explore the socio-economic characteristics of rural women. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to estimate the impact of different factors affecting the income of rural women. An Economic Analysis of Women Working in Non-Farm Sector in a Selected Area of Kushtia District

The study examines the nature and extent of women's participation in non-farm sector covering 70 women workers of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia district. The selected available workers were classified according to household income, of which 34 of them were very poor, 8 were medium poor and 28 were moderately well-to-do. Evidence showed that female workers were mostly engaged in non-farm sector, 95 per cent of the very poor women workers worked as day labourer while 64 per cent under moderately well to do households worked in services. Twenty and 30 per cent of the selected rural women workers were respectively divorced and widow. The female workers worked monthly on an average 17.95, 9.70 and 13.73 man-days in non-agricultural activities respectively for very poor, medium poor and moderately well-to-do workers while the male counterparts worked 21.88, 26.00 and 19.43 man-days. WOMEN’S CONTRIBUTION IN ENHANCING ECONOMY IN VILLAGE KARIMABAD, HUNZA

This study is a qualitative analysis of women’s contribution to the household economy. This particular study was conducted in the village of Karimabad in district Hunza, Gilgit Baltistan. Data was collected from 100 respondents by using simple random sampling technique. The study utilized various data collection methods including interviews, case studies, participant observation, and key informant method. Women in the village were observed to be working as teachers, nurses, carpenters and some engaged in agriculture. The shift from agriculture to employment sector has brought quiet a lot of changes in their daily life. The study reveals that the women of the area in relevance to the last decade have relatively taken more part as a working force in the domestic economy. 38 percent of the women working in various professions including vocational, technical, teaching and clerical earned between 10,000- 20,000. The data showed that even though woman have started working yet they are not being paid equally as men.

Factors Effecting The Rural Women Labour Supply in Agriculture Sector: A Case Study of District Rajanpur-Pakistan

This paper is an attempt to find out factors affecting the rural women labour supply in agriculture sector in District Rajanpur. Out of 44 Union councils (UCs), 06 UCs have been selected randomly for this study. Out of each UC two villages are selected and from each village 25 women above 18 years have been selected randomly. The collected data then analyzed using multiple regressions. Variables women age, family type, family size, husband health status, purdah observed, source of income and number of children are found statistically significant. The results can be concluded that economic constraints due to number of factors forced the women in the study area to work outside home. However, due to religious nature of the area, mostly women are not allowed to participate in economic activities outside their homes. Roles of women in agriculture: A case study of rural Lahore, Pakistan

In rural areas of Pakistan, the role of women in agriculture is more pronounced because they contribute a lot to agriculture, but their contribution in agriculture is not acknowledged. The present study was designed in rural union councils of three towns of Lahore, Pakistan namely Nishatar Town, Iqbal Town and Wahga Town. A questionnaire was designed to collect the data from rural women (n=207). Results reveals that a majority of women (42.02%) started the work at 29 to 39 years of age and mostly (86.95%) they were illiterate. A majority of the respondents (81.64%) were getting agricultural information from their own family members, and 56.52% rural women worked 8-10 hours per day. During this study, it was also found that wheat and rice were the major crops sown by all the respondents (100%).
