Creativity & Innovation: Four Key Issues from a Literature Review

This paper is about creativity and innovation in the educational field. Through a literature review, we describe the results of two decades of research on creativity and innovation in the educational and organizational field, to underline what seemed to work and what did not, to enable these processes functioning effectively. In this literature review, a search of publications dealing with the issues of innovation and creativity and the links between these two issues has been made. We decided to put these studies in four theoretical, ex-post created, dimensions: organizational structures, individual characteristics, training methods and pedagogical practices and training content. The content of this article is based on one of the outputs of the European Commission funded project, named CLEAR (Creativity and innovation: pedagogical framework for the learning chain).

Innovation, Creativity and Education

Researcher: Social Science Studies, 2017

Innovation and creativity that is considered one of the pioneers in the development of micro issues do not only contribute to maintaining the organization's existence, but also provide important contributions for social development. Innovation makes the way for providing economic superiority, considering that macro dimension. The way to achieve innovative results is through training creative labor. Hence, researchers have focused on identifying the conditions that influence individual creativity and have been increasingly interested in the relation of innovation and creativity to education. J. P. Guilford (1950) in his opening speech of the American Psychological Association has touched on why schools are not training more creative individuals and has fired up the interests in the area. Education, creativity, and innovation are psychological processes that facilitate the transformation of individual work roles, teams, organizations and even countries into desired results. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the relationship of education with creativity and innovation. Additionally, it is mentioned about creative education, the role of teachers/lecturers in creative learning and The Global Innovation Index. As a result of this conceptual study, it is emerged that preparing the conditions of innovation for the individuals leads to creative learning and teaching, and it is suggested to carry out practical researches related to this topic.

Learning to Develop Creativity and Innovation: A Case Study of Selected Schools

Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2010

The experience, knowledge and skills that teachers develop will help them to be innovative, creative and make wise decisions. The researcher developed explanations for complex adult learning phenomena from the perspective of a qualitative case study method. Overall, teachers practice various types of learning due to the learning climate and learning attributes. Learning process has always been a medium that needs to be explored, adopt and adapted according to the time line. Yet, there are mainly two factors that discourage learning among teachers. Ideas of being oneself are important and becoming the universal value is an asset.

Creativity – the Link between Discovery and Learning for Educational Innovation

Creativity is considered a resource that "waits" to be discovered. In our work, the students have a high creativity potential. Our goal is not only to teach them, but to help them discover things. There are several previous approaches regarding the relationship between the eLearning systems and the creativity, but only from the point of view of eLearning systems that can stimulate the creativity. We want to complete this relationship adding the use of creativity to improve eLearning. The starting point of our research was the students' satisfaction degree regarding the present eLearning systems from the Romanian universities. In order to achieve a high improvement of the students' perception regarding eLearning there must be changed something regarding the eContent, including elements of creativity and gamification and involving the students in the eContent development process.

Fostering Creativity: A Diagnostic Approach for Higher Education and Organizations

2009

This book is founded on the beliefs that creativity is essential and beneficial to a society that continually needs to innovate to survive and prosper and higher education is not doing enough to encourage students' creative development. The authors' contribution to the solution of this problem is to create a text that will help people, particularly education professionals, to understand what creativity is in a practical sense and through the principles elaborated in the book, adapt their own teaching practices to promote students' awareness and creative capability. This book makes a positive and useful contribution to what I have called the 'wicked problem' of creativity in higher education 1 .

Promoting Creativity and Innovation in the Education System

An important key to success in achieving ones full human potential is positivity i.e. the quality of being confident, optimistic, and cooperative. Positivity gained importance when Martin Seligman a professor at the University of Pennsylvania focused on Positive psychology as a new area of psychology in 1998 that seeks "to find and nurture genius and talent", and "to make normal life more fulfilling", not simply to treat mental illness. The main limitation on what students can do is what they think they can't do. All students have the capacity to be creators and to experience the joy associated with making something new, all we need to do is to give them a strong base for creativity. We need to let them know that they possess the ability to meet all of life's challenges whereas it’s their job is to decide how hard they will work to meet the challenges. The arguments presented in this paper will focus on developing those skills that lead to creating, enhancing and maintaining personal and professional well-being resulting in optimal human functioning. This is possible only through paying special attention to developing positivity and creativity in an individual that will help us design and achieve a life filled with joy and purpose, a life imbued with hope, energy, self-confidence and personal achievement, a life in which we're able to weather the inevitable storms with grace and resilience. Keywords: Positivity, Martin Seligman, nurture, joy and purpose, Optimal human functioning, resilience.

Fostering creativity in education

Creativity and innovation are the main drivers behind any successful idea. These are not just buzzwords; they are now key themes when discussing policy making, business strategy, and technology development. However, whilst we are expected to be creative in order to thrive, these skills are not formally or widely taught. On the contrary: it is argued that today's schools are actually killing children's creativity. Considering the highly competitive and entrepreneurial culture in which we are currently immersed, I believe that creativity will be the most sought characteristic of individuals in the future. However, for that to happen, the way these skills are fostered should change radically. This report summarises my findings and impressions from a series of visits and interviews with experts in children education, as well as creativity researchers from different parts of the world. Among these, special attention is given to two countries: Finland and Singapore, both known for having outstanding education systems. Whilst the keywords here are early-childhood education and creativity, the report also provides some insights into the future of education more broadly.
