Innovation, Creativity and Education

Researcher: Social Science Studies, 2017

Innovation and creativity that is considered one of the pioneers in the development of micro issues do not only contribute to maintaining the organization's existence, but also provide important contributions for social development. Innovation makes the way for providing economic superiority, considering that macro dimension. The way to achieve innovative results is through training creative labor. Hence, researchers have focused on identifying the conditions that influence individual creativity and have been increasingly interested in the relation of innovation and creativity to education. J. P. Guilford (1950) in his opening speech of the American Psychological Association has touched on why schools are not training more creative individuals and has fired up the interests in the area. Education, creativity, and innovation are psychological processes that facilitate the transformation of individual work roles, teams, organizations and even countries into desired results. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the relationship of education with creativity and innovation. Additionally, it is mentioned about creative education, the role of teachers/lecturers in creative learning and The Global Innovation Index. As a result of this conceptual study, it is emerged that preparing the conditions of innovation for the individuals leads to creative learning and teaching, and it is suggested to carry out practical researches related to this topic.

Creativity in Higher Education

Universal Journal of Educational Research, 2015

The paper presents results of research related to perception of creativity in higher education made by the authors at the University of Mostar from Bosnia and Herzegovina. This research was based on a survey conducted among teachers and students at the University. The authors developed two types of questionnaires, one for teachers and the other for students in order to investigate the perception about creativity at the University. Namely, the idea that higher education has key role in development of knowledge-based society and economy has been in the very heart of Bologna process-the overall reform of the higher education in European Union. Also, many official European Union documents identified creativity as a major driving force towards knowledge creation and social and economic advancement through the development of a knowledge society. But, the complex questions of knowledge-based society and economy could not be solved without creative, forward-looking individuals and groups who are not afraid to question established ideas and who are able to cope with the insecurity and uncertainty this entails. If today's universities, including University of Mostar, would not succeed in strengthening creativity of teaching process and education of their teachers and students, development of knowledge society could be at stake. The University of Mostar has been started with implementation of the main postulates of Bologna process since 2005. Almost ten years later, the authors wanted to examine if teachers and students of the University of Mostar are aware of the importance of creativity in higher education for development of knowledge society. That was the main reason why the authors started with research related to perception of creativity at the University of Mostar. The aim of this research was to investigate the awareness of teachers and students of the University related to the necessity to enhance creativity within and by academic community.

Learning to Develop Creativity and Innovation: A Case Study of Selected Schools

Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2010

The experience, knowledge and skills that teachers develop will help them to be innovative, creative and make wise decisions. The researcher developed explanations for complex adult learning phenomena from the perspective of a qualitative case study method. Overall, teachers practice various types of learning due to the learning climate and learning attributes. Learning process has always been a medium that needs to be explored, adopt and adapted according to the time line. Yet, there are mainly two factors that discourage learning among teachers. Ideas of being oneself are important and becoming the universal value is an asset.

The methodology of the research includes case study and pedagogical experiment (the pretest-post-test control and experimental group design). Data are gathered by means of conversational interviewing. The research results in suggesting a technology to develop learners’ creativity potential. How can we help students to improve their creativity? – lessons learned from a case study

One of the main concerns of today’s organizations is to cope with the rapid pace of change while maintaining their competitive advantage. This means that firms must be innovative, create new knowledge and have new ideas constantly. Similarly, one of the main concerns of lecturers is to help students to develop creativity. According to some authors, new ideas, new thoughts, innovation can arise in an appropriate environment and with the development and train of adequate competences and skills. This means that although some persons were born more creative than others, it is possible to help those less creative to improve their innovative capacities and competences. The question that remains now is “how”. How can we, as lecturers and educators help our students to become more creative? In this paper we describe a Portuguese case study that took place at ISCAP (School of Accountancy and Administration of Porto – Portugal), in the course of Business Communication, in the unit “Marketing Communication” (3rd year (1st Bologna cycle), 1st semester). We will describe and characterize the situation at the beginning of the semester (situation A), explain the tasks and activities proposed to students and the final result (situation A2). We will discuss differences between situation A and A2, formulate some hypotheses concerning differences and draw some recommendations.

Promoting Creativity and Innovation in the Education System

An important key to success in achieving ones full human potential is positivity i.e. the quality of being confident, optimistic, and cooperative. Positivity gained importance when Martin Seligman a professor at the University of Pennsylvania focused on Positive psychology as a new area of psychology in 1998 that seeks "to find and nurture genius and talent", and "to make normal life more fulfilling", not simply to treat mental illness. The main limitation on what students can do is what they think they can't do. All students have the capacity to be creators and to experience the joy associated with making something new, all we need to do is to give them a strong base for creativity. We need to let them know that they possess the ability to meet all of life's challenges whereas it’s their job is to decide how hard they will work to meet the challenges. The arguments presented in this paper will focus on developing those skills that lead to creating, enhancing and maintaining personal and professional well-being resulting in optimal human functioning. This is possible only through paying special attention to developing positivity and creativity in an individual that will help us design and achieve a life filled with joy and purpose, a life imbued with hope, energy, self-confidence and personal achievement, a life in which we're able to weather the inevitable storms with grace and resilience. Keywords: Positivity, Martin Seligman, nurture, joy and purpose, Optimal human functioning, resilience.
