Creative Talent and Personality: A Primary Education Study
Sustainability, 2020
We hope to answer the following questions with this study: What are the most characteristic personality traits of students with creative talent? Are there personality traits that allow a subject to promote his or her creativity? Lastly, is there a relationship between these personality traits and a neurobiological basis for creativity? The results of this study should serve to identify and develop creative talents and to continue stimulating their divergent thinking. The BFQ-NA questionnaire, which evaluates five personality traits, and the CREA and PIC-N creativity tests, which measure creative intelligence and imagination, respectively, were administered to a sample of 244 students aged ten to twelve years old. The data from the statistical analysis indicate that Conscientiousness is the most predictive trait for creativity for CREA (B = 0.18, p < 0.001), as well as for PIC in terms of narrative creativity (B = 1.044, p < 0.001) and graphic creativity (B = 0.213, p = 0.003 a...
An Inquiry Concerning the Characterıstics of the Creative Person
2015
This study was conducted with the participation of 20 pre-service science teachers. The study aims to examine pre-service science teachers’ views on the characteristics of the creative person. The data collected was analyzed by coding the answers. It was found that pre-service teachers mostly identified the following characteristics as the characteristics of a creative person: ‘thinks/interprets differently/originally’, ‘curious’, ‘enjoys research’, ‘has imagination’, ‘observant’, ‘self-confident’, ‘questions/enjoys questioning’, ‘sociable, not shy’, ‘open to new ideas’, ‘knowledgeable’, ‘farsighted’, ‘enjoys exploration’, ‘patient’, ‘enjoys learning’, ‘open to criticism’, and ‘talented’. These descriptions indicate that the creative person is considered to have a very wide and varied range of characteristics. This does not mean, however, that a creative person needs to have all of these characteristics at once. Keywords: creative personality characteristics, creativity, science edu...
Heritability of Working in a Creative Profession
Behavior genetics, 2017
Creativity is the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities. Following a study on the genetic contribution to working in a creative profession, based on polygenic score analysis, we report the total heritability of this trait in a large sample of adult twins and their siblings registered with the Netherlands Twin Register. Data from 6755 twins and 1817 siblings were analyzed using genetic structural equation modeling. Working in a creative profession is relatively rare in our sample (2.6% of twins and 3.2% of siblings). Twin correlations (identical 0.68 and fraternal 0.40) commended a model with additive genetic factors (full model estimate 0.56), shared (full model estimate 0.12), and unique environmental factors (full model estimate 0.32). Genetic model fitting resulted in a best-fitting model existing of additive genetic factors and unique environmental factors, resulting in a heritability of 0.70.
A Meta-Analysis of Personality in Scientific and Artistic Creativity
Personality and Social Psychology Review, 1998
Theory and research in both personality psychology and creativity share an essential commonality: emphasis on the uniqueness of the individual. Both disciplines also share an emphasis on temporal consistency and have a 50-year history, and yet no quantitative review of the literature on the creative personality has been conducted. The 3 major goals of this article are to present the results of the first meta-analytic review of the literature on personality and creative achievement, to present a conceptual integration of underlying potential psychological mechanisms that personality and creativity have in common, and to show how the topic of creativity has been important to personality psychologists and can be to social psychologists. A common system of personality description was obtained by classifying trait terms or scales onto one of the Five-Factor Model (or Big Five) dimensions: neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Effect size was measured ...
The Nature of Creativity: The Roles of Genetic Factors, Personality Traits, Cognitive Abilities, and Environmental Sources , 2015
was initiated by Alois Angleitner, Rainer Riemann, and Frank M. Spinath as a joint research project with funding from the Max Planck Research Prize awarded to Alois Angleiter. In addition, many other investigators contributed to both studies. We thank the whole GOSAT and BiLSAT research teams as well as the twins for spending part of their lifetime with both study projects. We are also indebted to the many experimenters for collecting the data, in particluar to Simone Penke and Anna-Karen Stürmer for their help in rating the T-88 creativity test data. Finally, we thank our master students Katharina Buchenau, Miriam
Creative Personality: The Importance of an Autonomous Working Style
Creativity in Educational Research and Practice, 2014
Creativity plays an important role in education and on the job market. In this perspective, the present study addresses the personality profile of creative people in specific domains of achievement. Literature on creativity is predominantly based on the analysis of psychology students, artists and scientists. The question which emerges from the current state of the art concerns the ability to generalize these findings. Hence, the current study examines additional professional subsamples in terms of their creative personality. The sample consists of 176 participants (109 women, 66 men, MAge = 24.47, SD = 3.52, age range: 19-39 years). In the general sample, only the correlation between creativity and autonomy was significant (r = .16, p < .05). In the sample of psychologists, this correlation was stronger (r = .57, p < .01). These results suggest the importance of fostering an autonomous working style.
A STUDY ON CREATIVITY AND EDUCATIONAL STATUS OF DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS
All the human being has own qualities among them maximum are inherited by birth. From these qualities, researcher had taken only creativity to measure with different age group girls students with their educational status. Creativity is commonly thought of as a personality trait that resides within the individual. Ability to produce something new through imaginative skill, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic objects or form. The term generally refers to a richness of ideas and originality of thinking. Psychological studies of highly creative people have shown that many have a strong interest in apparent disorder, contradiction, and imbalance, which seem to be perceived as challenges. Such individuals may possess an exceptionally deep, broad, and flexible awareness of themselves. Studies also show that intelligent has little correlation with creativity; thus, a highly intelligent person may not be very creative.
Creative and Wise People: Similarities, Differences, and How They Develop
Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 2002
The authors compared personality correlates of creative achievement and wise performance in middle-age women of a longitudinal study. In Q-sort descriptions, originality and ambition were particularly salient in creative individuals, whereas meaningmaking and benevolence were salient in wise individuals. Inventory measures of openness, unconventionality, ambition, and autonomy at age 21 predicted creative achievement, and measures of openness and tolerance predicted wisdom. Creative achievers increased over time in social integration and wise women in status-awareness. A behavioral commitment (creative activity soon after college or psychotherapeutic or spiritual careers) added significantly to age-21 openness and complexity to predict the criteria of creative achievement and wisdom.
Creativity in the Person: Contemporary Perspectives
LEARNing Landscapes
All individuals, working alone or in collaboration with others, have creative characteristics, but activate and apply them in varied ways, at different times, and in response to differing tasks and conditions. A shift from asking, "How creative are you?" to the challenging question, "How are you creative?" moves us beyond looking at level of creativity ("high, average, or low") and to consider style of creativity (varied ways of expressing and applying creativity). Understanding each student’s unique creative strengths enables educators to differentiate learning and instruction effectively for creativity and innovation as well as for other important educational outcomes.
