Air Compression and Electricity Generation by Using Speed Breaker with Rack And Pinion Mechanism

On roads, speed breakers provided to control the speed of traffic in rushed areas. The potential energy in terms of weight of vehicle is loss on speed breaker can be utilized for useful purposes. This paper describes the potential energy of such type of energy available on roads and its utilization for useful work. The stages of development of a speed breaker device are described and the mechanism to generate electricity using rack, pinion and speed increasing gear box and generator and store compressed air with the help of piston cylinder compressor arrangement. Whenever the vehicle is allowed to pass over the speed breaker dome, it gets pressed downwards. As the springs are attached to the dome, they get compressed and the rack, which is attached to the bottom of the dome, moves down in reciprocating motion. Since rack has teeth connected to pinion there is conversion of reciprocating motion of rack in to rotary motion of pinion, but the two gears rotate in opposite direction. So that shafts will rotate with certain RPM these shafts are connected through a belt drive to the generators, which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The rack is attached to piston rod of cylinder so downward stroke of rack we can use for air compression in reservoir, with help of piston cylinder arrangement. Simultaneously reciprocating piston cylinder arrangement compresses the air and stores it in the reservoir. We can use the generated electricity and compressed air for different purpose.

Generation of Electricity through Speed Breakers: A Review

Electricity is the most necessary form of the energy. Energy is responsible for development of any country. Consumption of electricity is increasing day by day. Now a days most of the electricity is generated by conventional fossil fuels, eventually the conventional power sources will get depleted by the next few decades. This project is about to use nonconventional energy source for power generation. In this method we are generating energy by air compression. All the set up will be placed under speed breaker and when the vehicle will pass over speed breaker, it will generate electricity with the help of air compression device.

Generation of electrical energy using road transport pressure at speed breaker

This electric generator is a simple operated electro mechanical system which is controlled by gear and electricity is produced by the generator. This electric generator has been designed by using Sprocket and Chain, Gear, Flywheel, Bearing, spring, Generator, and Battery. Our target was to design and Construct a system that will produce Electricity using road transport pressure. When pressure is created on the pressure lever, the wheels of designated system rotate thoroughly and this rotation of wheels produce electricity in dc generator. The generated electricity may be used to meet the local demand. This may solve partially the national power generation problem.

The aim is to build a working proto-type of a portable car tyre inflator and test it for efficiency and effectiveness. The device has a mass flow rate of ṁ=7.09x 10 -6 kg/s and a volumetric flow rate of VD=3.55x10 -2 m 3 /s. it was designed to pump a deflected non punctured car tyre in the shortest possible time of about 3-5minutes. The tyre inflator device comprises a single cylinder reciprocating compressor, gear drive, a dc electric motor, a dc battery of 12V 75A, transformer, etc. The device is to be connected to the car battery via the cigarette lighter socket provided in the car. ABSTRACT In the present day scenario the fossil fuel sources are fast depleting and their combustion products are causing global environmental problems. So it is inevitable to shift towards the use of renewable energy resources which in turn will reduce pollution and saves fossil fuels. For meeting the regular demand of the energy we need to design a system such that electricity can be produced without destroying the nature. Road power generation is an alternative technology which uses the pressure due to the weight of vehicles for generation of power. Our project attempts to show how energy can be tapped and used at a commonly used system, the road speed breakers. The number of vehicles passing over the speed breaker on the roads is increasing day by day. There is possibility of tapping the energy and generating power by making the speed breaker as a power generation unit. The generated power can be used to light up nearby street lights. In the present work, a working model of the power generation unit is made. A similar model of the system has also been modeled in Pro-E. Design of each component is carried out using standard procedures. The components are fabricated and are finally assembled. The linear motion of the lever is converted into rotary motion using a crank shaft. The speed obtained is in turn amplified by using a set of gears. This amplified speed is used to run a generator to produce power. Theoretical calculations of power and the practical power obtained are compared in order to find the efficiency of the power generation unit. The utilization of energy is an indication of growth of a nation. This work utilizes one of the best sources of energy we get in our day to day life.

Energy Generation by using Speed Breakers

Nowadays, in Speed breaker systems that receive their kinematic energy from vehicles passing over them in which generated kinetic and potential energies are converted to electrical energy. The speed bumps systems transfer energy in axial direction by means of spring in which energy is stored during operation. Speed bumps constitute an excellent solution for energy recovery in countries that are poor in national energy resources such As Lebanon; Lebanon suffers from limited natural resources that are used in generating electrical power. Hence, lighting streets during night time is a secondary to the local authorities since providing power to streets lighting needs a considerable amount of power. In this context, the present work concerns a prototype of speed bumps as well as an experimental study of the system performance.

From recent statistics on global warming, fuel shortage, pollution, problems with nuclear power and deregulation of electrical energy indicates that failure of investigating new energy sources to generate electricity can cause a huge power crisis in the near future, especially for people of developing countries like india. Therefore, to meet future energy demand, it is must to implement some new ideas for optimal utilization of conventional sources through conservation of energy. This research shows a way to utilize the energy in the form of jerking pressure which is wasted during the vehicles passes over a speed breaker. Normally, a lot of energy is produced due to jerking which can be tapped and converted to electricity by using a simple mechanism called roller mechanism very easily and efficiently. The amount of generated electricity depends on the number of vehicle and weight of the vehicle passing over the speed breaker. Due to the high increasing rate of vehicle number day by day, this system can fulfill the demand of electricity of a small area, very effectively and can be treated as a mini power plant for an individual area.

In the present day, energy is the foremost need of the human life. Everything happening in the environment is a result of the flow of energy in one or other forms. The significant usage of energy has led to an energy crisis over a few years. In order to overcome this problem, we need techniques for optimum use of conventional sources for conservation of energy. Our project attempts to show how energy can be tapped and used at a commonly used system, the Road speed breakers .The count of vehicles are increasing day by day, so this paper intends a method where the kinetic energy at the speed breaker can be converted into mechanical energy by using Rack and Pinion mechanism and that mechanical energy can be converted to electrical energy using a dynamo. For obtaining the electricity through the speed breaker a model is developed and studied using MATLAB.
