Improving The Students’ Writing Skill by Using Picture

The objectives of this thesis are to describe whether picture improves students’ writing skill and to describe the classroom situation when picture is used in writing class. The method of the research was classroom action research. The action research was conducted from January to April 2013 and was carried out in two cycles in 32 students of VIII A in SMPN 1 Jaten. The researcher collected the data using observation and questionnaire. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the data using qualitative and quantitative technique. The research findings show that the using of picture could improve the students’ writing. It can be seen from the mean scores improvement of pre test, post test cycle 1 ,and post test cycle 2, were 51.62 for the pre-test, 68.00 for the post-test in cycle 1 and 78.31 for the post-test in cycle 2. The using of picture in teaching writing also could improve classroom situation in writing class.
Teaching Writing Through Picture for Junior High School Students

This research was conducted with the aim of finding the usefulness and benefits of picture as a teaching strategy or media of teaching to teach writing skill to the students. The method in this research was classroom action research method, which was carried out in two cycles. Subjects or participants in this study were the students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar, precisely the IX-4 students. The researchers collected data from the test results of students on the implementation of picture in writing a text. In addition, the data were also obtained through observation results carried out in the learning process. Based on the results of research that the researchers obtained, it was proven that the use of picture had effects on student learning abilities. Their writing abilities increased after using pictures as medium in writing a text.
Improving Students Narrative Writing Process Through Series of Picture Classroom Action Research

This research is done to know the benefits of using series of pictures in the process of narrative writing. It is also expected by the teacher to know that using series of picture, the students can be stimulated to think cratively in gaining the ideas and learning the narrative writing well. The method of the research quasi-experimental design to see the effectiveness series of picture toward students 'writing skill in narrative text. The population of this reserach was twelfth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Cijati Cianjur and the sample was class XII. The data was collected by using pre-test and post-test measurement on the control and experiment class and comparing the gained scores between both classes. The result presented that the picture series as media in writing narrative text is effective towards students'writing skill in narrative text. The result of calculation presented that in the significance degree of 5%,the value of t-test (to) >t-table (tt) (5.514> 1.992).According to the criteria of the test, the result showed that there is a significant diferrence between students'writing skill in narrative text by using picture series as media and without picture series.it means that, the picture series is effective and applicable as the media in writing narrative text.

This Research was designed to improve the students’ ability in writing by Describing pictures.The problem of the research was “can describing pictures improve students’ ability in writing?”. There were many kinds of strategies that could be used in teaching writing, but in this research, the researcher applied only describing pictures, and writing activities focusing on the kinds of activities. The design of this research was Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). Based on the analytical scoring rubric showed that from 63 in the first cycle and got increased to 73 in the second cycle. In the first cycle there were 13 Students of 30 students could reach the minimum score or only 43 % students were success. Writing is an action of expressing feelings and ideas into a written form. It is assumed as the most difficult of the four skills, especially for children. However, it is believed that by using interesting media, such as pictures, in which the children can have a lot of fun while learning may improve the students’ skill in writing. Therefore, this study aims to find out whether the use of pictures can significantly improve the students’ writing ability. An experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design was undertaken by giving the students a pretest and a posttest. The population of this research was the whole seventh grade students at SMPN 16 Banda Aceh. In learning English, there are four language skills that should be learnt, they are listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Listening and reading belong to receptive skills in which the language users require the ability to receive spoken and written language, while speaking and writing belong to productive skills in which the language users require the ability to produce language both spoken and written (Harmer, 1983: 44). Based on curriculum KTSP, all skills in teaching and learning English that are integrated each other must be learnt and taught by both students and teacher, including writing skill.
The Use of Picture and Picture Technique in Improving Student Writing Skill

This study is aimed to know whether picture and picture technique can improve students’ writing skill. The method used was quantitative research with one group pre-test and post-test research design. The population was the 11th grade students at SMK Tunas Bangsa. The sample was one class of mechanical engineering major and consisted of 35 students.The result showed that null hypothesis of this study was rejected. It is proved by the data from T-test that shows the Sig. 2 tailed is 0.000. This value is less than 0.05. Null hypothesis, therefore, was rejected.
