The Development of Smart Parking System

The increasing of the number of vehicle ownership, parking has become the serious problem for several people. One of the problems is difficulty to looking for the empty parking space in the large parking area and also the amount of illegal parking car that does not follow the rules of the parking space dimension. In this paper, we proposed the smart parking system using the Internet of Things (IoT) that can be part of a solution for the parking problem. This system help in organizing the parking lot and helps the driver to reach their parking spots easily as they known which space is vacant. The parking space can be detected using an Infrared sensor that connects to the ESP8266 module that was programmed through Arduino IDE. Users can access parking space information using a smartphone via an application. Especially for users who have been registered before, they have a code for login the app as the requirement for security system and user parking convenience. The system can work with the purpose of the research appropriately.

Smart Parking System Based on Embedded System and Sensor Network

International Journal of Computer Applications, 2016

Locating a parking space in central city areas, especially during the peak hours, is cumbersome for drivers. The issue arises from not having the knowledge of where the available spaces may be at the time, even if known, many vehicles may seek very limited parking spaces to cause severe traffic congestion. In this paper the design and implementation with a prototype of Reservation-based Smart Parking System (RSPS) that permits drivers to effectively locate and withhold the vacant parking spaces in mentioned. This system use cluster based algorithm which helps in periodically learning the parking status from the sensor networks deployed in parking spaces, the reservation service is influenced by the change of parking status. The drivers are allowed to access this said cyber-physical system with their personal communication devices. The system implemented is cost efficient smart parking system for multi-level parking facility using WSN (IR Sensor) and develop an android based application, by cluster based allocation method and performs automatic billing process. The system monitors the availability of idle parking slots and guides the vehicle to the nearest free slot.

SMART PARKING SOLUTIONS FOR SMART CITIES BASED ON WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

Urban commuting has become a nightmare for a common man who travels to and from work daily in a city. The traffic gets even worse on weekends, as almost half the road is occupied by cars searching for parking. To avoid these problems, recently many new technologies have been developed that help in solving the parking problems to a great extent using RFID technology, GSM, and QR code. In this survey paper, we discuss and analysis various smart parking solutions that are used to locate available parking space with the help of sensors. This saves customer's time as well as minimizes wastage of fuel. This is done with the help of robotics and a lot of software programming. The growth in low-cost, low-power sensing and communication technologies is creating a pervasive network infrastructure called the Internet of Things (IoT), which enables a wide range of physical objects and environments to be monitored in fine spatial and temporal detail. There has been growing interest in the IoT for realising smart cities, in order to maximise the productivity and reliability of urban infrastructure, such as minimising road congestion and making better use of the limited car parking facilities. Some methodological framework for multiple steps ahead parking availability prediction includes the probability a free space to continue being free in subsequent time intervals, and the short-term parking occupancy prediction in selected regions of an urban road network.

A Survey on Smart Parking Management System

Soft Computing Research Society eBooks, 2023

With the large increase in population, automated industries and need of vehicles, parking of the vehicles is becoming a critical issue in various cities. Unmanaged parking of vehicles leads to noise pollution, air pollution, traffic congestion. During peak hours, it is difficult task to find vacant parking lot and it becomes the major challenge for driver to park the vehicle. A lot of work is being done in the whole world to manage the efficient parking of vehicles. To give the clear overview about efficient parking system, we go through some existing studies over the period of 2009-2022 which proposed various parking solutions. This survey gives an exhaustive study of available parking solutions and also proposed some recommendations for future research in providing smart parking management system.

A Survey on Intelligent Car Parking System for Smart Cities

International Journal of Advanced Research in Computer Science and Software Engineering, 2017

The primary goal of the intelligent parking systems is to find, allocate, and reserve the ‘best’ available car parking lot for a user who is driving a car in a particular area, and to provide him/her with navigation instructions for reaching this lot.

Developing Smart Car Parking System Using Wireless Sensor Networks

Car parking is a serious problem and one of the major contributors to traffic congestion in urban areas. This challenge is as a result of sharp increase in numbers of automobiles on the roads. This paper presents the development of a smart parking system using wireless sensor networks. The system can monitor the state of every parking lot by deploying a magnetic sensor node on each lot and also identify improper parking using infrared sensor to check if vehicles are properly parked. The system uses Xbee radio for transmitting information to the base station which performs necessary information processing, analysis and interpretation on the data received to usable and meaningful format for the end users. The results obtained after qualitative testing of the developed prototype shows that server concurrency utilization is in the average of 12 users per minute. It was also observed that the system acquire speedup in terms of average response time of 1.414 seconds. This implies that the system is robust to handle large number of users and is also fast enough in terms of response which gives accurate information about the parking lot. With the system in place, traffic related hazards, fuel wastage and other relted hazards could be reduced.

Due to rapid increase in vehicle density especially during the peak hours of the day it is difficult task for the users to find the parking space to park their vehicles. This study proposes a smart parking system based on Arduino components and mobile application. The proposed smart parking system consists of an onsite deployment of an slot module that is used to monitor and signalize the state of availability of each single parking space. A mobile application is also provided that allows an end user to check the availability of parking space and book a parking slot accordingly. Smart parking can increase the economy by reducing fuel consumption and pollution in urban cities.

Designing and Managing a Smart Parking System Using Wireless Sensor Networks

Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks

For several years, the population of cities has continued to multiply at a rapid pace. The main cause of this phenomenon in developing countries like Morocco is the rural exodus. In fact, rural youth are increasingly attracted by the modern way of life and the opportunities of employment offered by cities. This increase in population density has a large number of negative effects on the quality of life in the city. The most obvious is the intensity of the traffic, which has become an almost insurmountable problem and which causes a great deal of damage, such as the increase in the number of accidents that cause serious bodily harm to the road users, the pollution caused by the large amount of CO 2 released by the vehicles, and the continuous stress of drivers who must drive in often narrow and very busy roads and who must look for a long time to find a space to park. Thus, to solve the parking problem, several modern technologies have been created to equip car parks with smart devices that help road users identify the nearest car park that has a free space. These technologies most often use wireless sensor networks and Internet of Things (IoT) technology. In this paper, we present the design and development of a smart parking system using the latest technologies based on wireless sensor networks (WSN). Our system uses an adaptable and hybrid self-organization algorithm for wireless sensor networks that adapts to all types of car parks existing in the city (linear and mass parking), and offers a better management of the energy consumption during the wireless communication to increase the lifetime of the sensor nodes and the longevity of the WSN. This system also offers innovative services which facilitate the task to the drivers when looking for an available parking space in the city near their destination, in a fast and efficient manner.

Survey Paper on An IoT Based Smart Parking System

International Journal of Scientific Research in Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology, 2019

Internet of Things (IoT) plays a important role in connecting the over all environmental things to the network and it is easy to access those un-internet things from any remote location. It’s unavoidable for the people to update with the increase technology. [1] And generally people are facing problems on parking vehicles in parking slots in a parking area. In this study we plan a Smart Parking System (SPS) which enables the user to find the nearest parking area and gives availability of parking slots in that respective parking area. It mainly concentrates on reducing the time in finding the parking area and also it avoids the unnecessary travelling through filled parking areas in a parking area. Thus it decreases the fuel consumption which in turn reduces carbon footprints in an atmosphere.
