This study aims to determine the increase in students' mastery of English vocabulary using crosswords and to find out what are the effects of using crosswords in the learning process. This research uses classroom action research methods. Researchers conducted research in one of the junior high schools in Cimahi and the subjects in this study consisted of 34 students. This research describes the use of Crossword Puzzle to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The Use of Crossword Puzzle towards the Students Vocabulary

Vocabulary is an important one of the language components that should be learnt by students, so they can master the English well. This research is conducted to know the student vocabulary improving after taught using crossword puzzles. The research used pre-experimental design which is need an experimental class. The sample of this research is the first grade of SMAN 5 Makassar which consist of 20 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used vocabulary test that has administered in pretest and posttest. The result showed that the mean score in posttest was 76.75 that is higher than the mean score in pre-test was 55.5. The score of t-test was 0.02 was smaller than α (0.05). It can be said that using puzzles can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.

The aim of the researcher was to find a technique that could increase the students’s vocabulary. To find out whether interactive method by applying crossword puzzle can improve students’ vocabulary. The researchers gives the students pretest and post test. The researcher use two cycles in this research.We can see that in the first cycle the number of students who got a score of 75 was 6.6% andin the second cycle the number of students who got a score of 75 was 76.6%. The The Effect of Crossword Puzzle on Developing Students’ Vocabulary at Seven Grade of SMP Pangeran Antasari Medan

The researchers’ aim for this research was to determine the significance of using crossword puzzles in developing students' vocabulary at Pangeran Antasari Medan's seventh grade. The quantitative design was used in this study. This study's population consisted of 50 students. Furthermore, the researchers used 50 students as a sample and divided them into two different groups, experimental and control groups. The study's instrument was a fill-in-the-blanks (Pre-test and Post-test) or crossword puzzle. Based on the clarification over, the author analyzed the score utilizing the T-test equation, and the result was T-observed was 2.92 and t-table was 1,684, indicating that T-observed was more prominent than T-table. At the critical level, p= 0.05 and df= nx=ny-2 = 48. This implies that Crossword Puzzle Strategy features a noteworthy affect on students' learning.

Empowering Seventh-Grade Students with Crossword Puzzle for Vocabulary Mastery

Students often struggle with mastering vocabulary in their English learning journey, necessitating English teachers to seek solutions. One viable strategy teachers can adopt is the integration of crossword puzzles to enhance students' vocabulary mastery. Specifically, the study sought to determine if providing crossword puzzles to the SMP Negeri 3 Banawa seventh-grade students could enhance their vocabulary proficiency. To measure the impact of this approach, the researcher employed pre-test and post-test assessments as evaluation tools in a quasi-experimental study. Through purposive sampling, the researcher selected two classes, VII B and VII D, each with 29 students, as the study's sample groups. Subsequently, data analysis revealed a significant disparity between the pre-test and post-test scores in the experimental class. Notably, the computed pvalued (two-tailed) was 0.000, falling below the predetermined significance level of 0.05, signifying the acceptance of the hypothesis. In conclusion, implementing the crossword puzzle in this study led to a noticeable improvement in the vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Banawa.

This research design Crossword Puzzle in the Third Semester of English Education Department at UIN Alauddin Makassar. The objective of this research was to design crossword puzzle to improve students' vocabulary mastery. It was conducted in the third semester students in the English Education Department of UIN Alauddin. The significance of this research were for students, teachers, and other research. For students with their research will facilitate the student in improving their vocabulary. In addition, this study was designed to produce teaching materials, especially in vocabulary lesson used crossword puzzle. For teachers, this research can be useful to produce media that can facilitate teachers in presenting the lesson. The research design of this research was Research & Development (R&D). It applied model R&D adapted from Borg & Gall model. The steps of the model were needed assessment, designing the product, validating product, revising initial product, trying out product, final revising product, and the last final product. The types of data of this research were quantitative and qualitative data. The research instruments were questionnaire and research judgments.

The Improving of the Student’s Vocabulary Achievement through Crossword Game in the New Normal Era

This research attempted to verify improved vocabulary achievement using the Crossword Game for the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Krian. The method used was classroom action research. The reason why this research was done is because of the pre–cycle outcome. Only five students passed the criteria of minimum score (KKM). So, the researcher wanted to give fun vocabulary learning through Crossword Games. This research was done in 3 cycles. Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Through Crossword Puzzle Technique at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Padangsidimpuan

Penelitian ini membahas tentang cara meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa melalui teka-teki silang di SD Muhammadiyah 1 Padangsidimpuan. Sebagian besar siswa merasa bosan dalam mempelajari kosa kata bahasa Inggris dengan teknik konvensional yang diberikan oleh guru bahasa Inggris kelas VI, yaitu tekhnik buka kamus. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas, dengan menerapkan teknik teka-teki silang. Peneliti menerapkan empat tes dan dua siklus dalam penelitian ini. Peserta penelitian ini adalah satu kelas terdiri dari 28 siswa. Peneliti menggunakan tes kosakata sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data, lembar observasi dan wawancara, d an dilakukan analisis secara deskriptif dan menggunakan statistik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan kosakata siswa rata-rata skor siswa berada di siklus pertama dua tes; dalam tes pertama adalah 61,42 dan tes kedua adalah 62,14. Kemudian, siklus kedua adalah dua tes; di tes ketiga adalah 84.28 dan tes terakhir adalah 91,78. Oleh karena itu, nilai rata-rata pada siklus kedua lebih tinggi dari siklus pertama. Pada siklus pertama dikategorikan ke dalam kategori cukup dan pada siklus kedua dikategorikan ke dalam kategori sangat baik. Data dari lembar observasi menunjukkan bahwa siswa mendapat peningkatan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik teka-teki silang meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa. Kata Kunci: vocabulary mastery, crossword puzzle, and improve.

The Influence of Using Crossword Puzzle to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery of Class VII SMP Negeri 4 Pujananting of Barru

The objective of this study is to find out the influence of crossword puzzle method to improve the students' vocabulary mastery. This research is quasi-experimental as the design that used two group pretest and posttest. It means that there were an experimental class and a controlled class which were given pretest and posttest. There were 40 students of class VII of SMPN 4 Pujananting of Barru as the sample in this study. The instrument of this research was a written test, to score the students' vocabulary mastery on pretest and posttest. The result of this research showed that there was a positive effect of the result of students' vocabulary mastery after using crossword puzzle method. Based on the result of the calculation process the researcher gained that in pretest had a mean of 59,05 and the posttest had a mean of 82,20 of experimental class. Based on the finding of this study, it can be concluded that using of crossword puzzle method in improving students' vocabulary mastery is quite success. And after conducting the research and calculating the data, it could be stated that it was effective of using crossword puzzle method on students' of improving vocabulary mastery. Students' vocabulary mastery got a higher score.

Students Vocabulary Mastery toward Crossword Puzzle Games

This research investigated the improvement of students’ participation and vocabulary achievement by using crossword puzzles in the classroom. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were the seventh-grade students and the research area was at a private Islamic Junior High School in Kendari. The data were collected by using observation and vocabulary achievement tests. The collected data were analyzed statistically by using a percentage formula. The students’ activity improved from 78,66% in cycle 1 to 97,66% in cycle 2. Meanwhile, the students’ vocabulary mastery improved from 54% in cycle 1 to 90% in cycle 2. In conclusion, using crossword puzzles improved the students’ vocabulary achievement and students' participation in the teaching and learning English.

The Use of Crossword Puzzle to Improve Vocabulary Mastery of the Fifth Grade Students of SD N Golo

The purpose of this research was to describe the procedures of using crossword puzzle to improve vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N Golo.The design of this research was an action research. The research consisted of two cycles. The subject of the study was the fifth grade students of SD N Golo and the English teacher as the collaborator. The data collecting was done by observation, interview, and field notes. Hence, the data were in the form field notes and interview transcripts. The data analyzing used qualitative method in three steps: reducing the data, displaying the data, and drawing the conclusion. The result of the data showed that the use of crossword puzzle technique was able to improve the students' vocabulary mastery. Based on the qualitative data, most of the students were active in learning activities and they could memorize the vocabulary. It could be seen from the students' participation in responding the researcher's instruction and the score of their task in the cycle 1 and cycle 2.

The objective of this research is to find out whether Crossword Puzzle Game is effective to increase vocabulary of the eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Ampibabo or not. The present work investigates the use of Crossword puzzles as a teaching strategy to enhance learners' vocabulary learning in two private schools "Djurdjura and Ithri" situated in Tizi-Ouzou town. In order to reach the three objectives of the study, two theories: Piaget's Individual Constructivism (1950) and Vygotsky's sociocultural learning theory (1978)have been applied.To conduct this study, a mixed research method was adopted. It combines both qualitative and quantitative techniques in relation to data collection and Descriptive Statistical Method and Qualitative Content Analysis in relation to data analysis.For collecting data, Twelve (12) classroom observation sessions were conducted in the two private schools, forty eight (48) questionnaires were handed to the first year learners and a semi-structured interview was conducted with the two (02) teachers of the English language who work in these schools.The results of the study reveal all teachers use crossword puzzles to teach English vocabulary. The obtained findings indicate that learners have a positive attitude toward this strategy since it helps them to understand English vocabulary. Moreover, The findings reveal that teachers use this strategy because they believe it makes the learning environment rich and attractive. On the basis of the findings, it is concluded that crossword puzzles is an effective strategy to teach English vocabulary.
