For controlling the pandemic, it's very crucial that everyone should follow the control measures which is ultimately depended upon the factors like knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of people towards coronavirus according to KAP theory. At such a critical moment to manage the COVID-19 pandemic in India arises an urgency for understanding people's awareness of COVID-19. Methods: A cross-sectional design with a cluster sampling method from the field practice area of a rural medical college was selected. Participants were above 18 years. Data collection was done after taking informed consent. Data were analysed with R studio software with appropriate statistical tests. Result: A good knowledge of COVID-19 was found in rural population. Majority of population has good knowledge about COVID-19 epidemiology, signs, and symptoms. Good knowledge corresponds to appropriate behaviour and proper practices in population. Overall participants were confident that India will win war against COVID-19. Conclusions: Our study findings suggested that the rural population of India with a comparatively high level of education, specifically Health care services people, had proper knowledge, cheerful way of attitude, and appropriately practicing measures towards COVID-19 during the rapid rise period of the COVID-19 cases. Whereas age, gender, and socioeconomic status didn't show any significant association with the knowledge score. We conclude that KAP towards COVID-19 by vulnerable populations warrants special attention for research.

In an effort to mitigate the outbreak of COVID-19, many countries have imposed drastic lockdown and movement control on their residents. The effectiveness of these mitigation measures is highly dependent on cooperation and compliance of all members of society. The knowledge, attitudes and practices people hold toward the disease play an important role in determining a country's readiness to accept behavioral change measures from health authorities. The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge levels, attitudes and practices toward COVID-19 among the Indian public. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional online survey of Indian residents was conducted between 9th July and 18th July 2020.The survey questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, 13 items on knowledge, 5 items on attitudes and 8 items on practices, modified from a previously published questionnaire on COVID-19. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were conducted. Results: Results obtained after statistical analysis of responses of the questionnaire shows that mean knowledge score of the participants was 10.921 (out of 13), while mean scores of attitude and practices were 2.930 (out of 5) and 7.42 (out of 8) respectively. Significant difference of knowledge (p value <0.05) was found when comparison between area of residence (urban > rural), level of education (PG/Professional > UG, 12th std.) and occupation (HCW > non HCW) was done. Significant difference in attitude was seen only when occupation was compared. Non Health care workers (non HCW) showing more positivity in attitude than the HCWs. As far as practices are concerned, there was no significant difference found in any of the socio-demographic variable. All the section of the society were found to follow healthy practices relevant to prevention of COVID-19. Exploring Knowledge, Attitude and Practices Towards COVID-19: A Case Study in Odisha, India

Journal of Contemporary Studies in Epidemiology and Public Health

Practice of preventive measures for a disease like Coronavirus (COVID-19) depends on the levels of awareness/knowledge and attitude towards it, which help to control the spread of it. We conducted both online and offline surveys to understand the behavioural responses in terms of the extent of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP), and its relation with socioeconomic and demographic conditions of respondents from a poor state like Odisha, India. It is observed that although a higher proportion of respondents have ample knowledge about basic information, preventive measures and transmission channels through social media, the Internet, TV, and radio but relatively a fewer percentage of participants have less knowledge about some of important symptoms and social distancing norms as primary measures to prevent its transmission. It has been witnessed that there is prevalence of lot of blind/unscientific beliefs and misinformation in the society about its transmission channels. We also observed a significant difference in the KAP scores across residential locations, education levels, marital status, social groups, occupations, economic status/income levels of the participants. The knowledge on preventive measures and transmission channels are found to be inversely related to the practice of preventive measures. However, knowledge score on basic information, symptoms and attitude about COVID-19 have a positive association with the practice score. Further, making a comparative analysis of scores demonstrates that the knowledge score has a relatively weak association with the practices score as compared to the attitude score.
