Article Journal of Education and Educational Developement School Heads' Perceptions About Their Leadership Styles

This study explored school heads' perceptions regarding their school leadership styles. The study adopted a qualitative research design. The sample of the study consisted of 10 male and 10 female head teachers from Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Findings revealed that school heads adopted a number of leadership styles. The main leadership styles included instructional leadership, transformational leadership and moral leadership. These different leadership styles were adopted keeping in view the needs of different situations that heads found themselves working in. The study has important implications for school management, schoolteachers, researchers and policy makers.

Exploring Teachers' Perspectives on Effective Leadership Styles at Secondary Level in Karachi, Pakistan

This research explored the teachers' perspective on the effective leadership style of public secondary school head-teachers of District Korangi Karachi. Leadership is important in every aspect of life, including in schools. This was a simple descriptive survey research. The target population consists of all District Korangi, Karachi, Pakistan secondary school teachers. The quantitative method was used in this study to collect data from teachers. A leadership-style questionnaire for teachers was used to collect data. The responses of teachers were quantified as Strongly Agree =5, Agree=4, Have no opinion=3, Disagree=2 and strongly disagree=1. Using stratifies random sampling, 140 secondary school teachers were selected, including 77 male and 63 female teachers from public sector secondary schools. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, independent sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA in SPSS version 22. According to the results, the teachers showed that the democratic leadership style was the most effective style of leadership, which enhanced the motivation of teachers' motivation, suggested that more attention should be focused on enhancing awareness about different leadership styles to enhance their motivation and student performance at the secondary level.

A Study of Leadership Styles of Administrators and its Perceived Impact on Morale of Elementary School Educators in Pakistan

This research investigated the influence of democratic leadership practices of elementary school administrators on the morale of educators. It was also an attempt to explore how democratic leadership style of administrators, develop high morale among elementary school educators in Pakistan. For the purpose, 22 administrators and 20 school educators in federal government educational institutes contributed to the study. Mixed methods research design was used to collect quantitative and qualitative data that helped to answer the research questions. The Leadership styles questionnaire developed by Northouse (2009) was used to collect quantitative information regarding democratic, authoritarian, and laissez-fare leadership styles of the administrators. The interview guide developed by Littleford (2007) was used to collect qualitative information of educators' morale. It helped to collect detailed information regarding the research variables. The educator's personal experiences were considered in one-on-one interview, The results indicated that out of 22 schools 16 were practicing democratic leadership style, 1 school was practicing authoritarian leadership style, 4 were practicing both democratic and authoritarian leadership style and 1 school administrator was practicing laissez-fare leadership style. Themes induced from the qualitative data, using thematic analysis approach of the educators' interview indicated that administrators' leadership styles influenced moral of the educators. These findings showed that elementary educators' morale was high due to democratic leadership style of the school administrators.

Analyzing the Perceived Effectiveness of Academic Leadership in Schools of Bahawalpur, Pakistan

The purpose of this study was to analyze the perceived effectiveness of academic leadership in schools of Bahawalpur (Pakistan). All the teachers teaching at secondary school level of private sector constituted the population of the study. Only 100 school teachers were selected as sample through simple random sampling technique. A self-developed structured questionnaire was used as research instrument for data collection. The quantitative research methodology has been used. Statistical tools i.e., mean standard deviation and percentage were used for the analysis of the data. After analysis of the data, it was concluded that that the academic leadership in schools is not as effective as it should be as per staff perception. Supervisors do not empower their teachers. Teachers are not motivated and not involved in decision making process. Teachers are not rewarded on showing excellent performance. Furthermore, they are not engaged in building ethical ambiance in school.

School Leaders' Perspectives on Successful Leadership: A Mixed Methods Case Study of a Private School Network in Pakistan

Private school culture dominates the public-school culture in Pakistan. With no central regulating organization, private schools in the country autonomously construct their educational philosophy that underpins curriculum choice, pedagogic approaches, and school operations. In this perspective, there is an increasing inquisitiveness in the understanding of what determines a private school as a “successful” school. The researchers intend to understand the determinants of a successful private school and aim to explore the leadership behaviors of head teachers of such schools in Pakistan. A Comparative Study of Administratve Styles of Secondary School Head Teachers of Federal and Provincial Government Schools in Pakistan

The purpose of the study was to compare the administrative styles of secondary school head teachers of federal and provincial Govt. Schools. For this purpose, six federal and fourteen provincial schools, in Multan city (Pakistan) were selected as a sample. All the teaching and non teaching staff of the schools was taken as population. Authoritarian style is disliked by teachers and staff, so it kills the fighting spirit at school. It is different from the transformational style which grows motivation. Principal Leadership Styles in High-Academic Performance of Selected Secondary Schools in Kelantan Darulnaim Wan Hanum Suraya

This study aims to investigate the perceptions of teachers toward the principal leadership styles in high-academic performance schools. It involved five selected secondary schools that are acknowledged by the State Department of Education, Kelantan as the 'A' or 'control' schools. Besides, this study also intends to investigate the relationship between teachers' characteristics and perceptions of principal leadership styles. The study is quantitative in nature. Total 100 teachers' responses were collected through questionnaire. The findings of this study showed that the teachers perceived positively toward principal leadership styles. Moreover, study also found that the role of principal is important in determining the high-academic performance of students in examinations.
