Web content and design trends of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) libraries’ website: An evaluation

The present study aims to evaluate and analyse the web contents of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) library website/web pages. Survey and observation method was used to collect the primary data from the respective library websites of19 IITs library websites/web pages where 128 criteria have been designed and data were collected during the month of November, 2016 that was further verified between the periods of 1 st March-15 th March, 2017.The study reveals, only four IITs have a library webpage and one has a dedicated page for library. And very less IIT library website/web page have provided the information about the collections, services, value-added services, and Web 2.0 tools link. The evaluation of the websites will help to upgrade the IITs library website which will be useful for other institutions too.

Website plays an important role in every institution and every organisation. Websites are the gateway to an institution through online mode. Libraries' websites webpages help the users to get all the information online related to the facilities and services provided by their respective libraries of an institution. IIM are the pioneer management institutions and the libraries website/web page are to be maintained properly where the information should be easily accessible by the user without any hindrance. The study is based on the information available in the library webpage of the concerned universities. A checklist was designed and the library web-pages were evaluated based on the previous evaluations of websites conducted by different authors.

Content Evaluation of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Banaras Hindu University Library Websites in India

The study evaluates the content of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) library websites using qualitative (11 checkpoints) and quantitative (170 checkpoints) evaluation. The qualitative parts covered 11 features which belong to the homepages of the websites, which helps as recording devices of the descriptive information, moreover, quantitative part of the checklists covered 170 dichotomous question affiliated to the different aspect of the features such as; multimedia, general information, services, resources, my library features, web2.0/library2.0 features, currency accuracy and relevance, organization and structure features, links and maintenance features, user-interface features, search features and informative feedback and support features. Web Content and Design Trends of Agricultural Universities’ Library Website in Rajasthan State, India: An Evaluation

With the advent of new emerging technology in the library, the library website plays an important role and making a handy tool for promoting library services to reach and disseminate information in every corner of the world without physically visiting the library. The present study evaluated the content of Agricultural University Library Websites/Webpages in Rajasthan State, India. Sixty-five criteria of a checklist method are prepared and used for data collection for analysing the feature of library website/webpage. The finding result revealed that the Swami Keshwan and Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner Library Websites/Webpage scored 35 (53.84%) out of 65, which ranked first and falls under the good grade point whereas Rajasthan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Bikaner Library Website ranked in 5 th position by scoring 10 (15.38%) out of 65 features and thus needs improvement to provide the basic library services as per user demand.

Library websites play an essential role in collecting and sharing information or sources for users. Today it is a common platform to interact with users without their behavior. A website survey certainly helps us to identify and analyse available content to obtain rich and suitable information by evaluating the current website's improvement. The present study evaluates the contents of the nine central university library websites of the North East India. A checklist has been developed to collect library facilities, library collections, university webpage accessibility, link searches, and the retrieval interface. The purpose of this article is to help website developers, and administrators better understand the current state of these university websites so that they may provide more informative, up-to-date information, authentic information, user-friendly, and dynamic methods to users based on their needs.

Content Analysis of Library Website of Selected Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in India: A Study

This study is content analysis of the selected library website of Indian Institute of Management in India. For conducting the study, online survey and observation methods were found appropriate. The data were collected through the well structural six checklist elements from the selected IIM in India under the study. The study further, discusses services and facilities being offered by the IIM library website. The study reveals that maximum number of IIM library website have mentioned information related to about us & library hours 13 (77.2%), library services, library rules and regulation 11(61.1%), collection of books & journals 13(72.2%), E-resources that is e-books, ejournals 14(77.7%) on their website/webpage. On their website/webpage , however , study also report that of the library website/webpage have social bookmarking tag , Facebook 3 (16.6%), LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and You Tube 2 (11.1%) on their website. The domain name of the host website, general information about the library, library services, library collection, information on E-Resources, information on social bookmarking tag, and link search & retrieval interface are the major elements considered to evaluate the library website. The study suggest for caring out such evaluative studies which is the need of hour to enable the institution to update their website periodically and come up with flying colors on users expectation.

Academic libraries have to provide very flexible services focused more on individualized and distant contact with their clients. To answer new demands they not only have to move their services and resources to the Web but also should consider the different cultural and educational backgrounds of library users. In this context this article tries to analyze and compare the contents and usability of six Indian Institute Management library Web sites and presents conclusions regarding the basic functions they perform. Library Web sites were evaluated according to a detailed checklist prepared specially for this purpose.

Content Analysis of Central University Library Websites of South India

This study is to evaluate the status of the library websites of central universities of south India. A checklist of various elements has been used to gather the data and evaluate contents of selected library webpage. The domain name of host website, general information about the library, collection details, information on e-resources, Link search and retrieval interfaces and innovative services adopted are the major elements considered to evaluate the websites. However, it is found that contents are varying in every library website. It is essential to make library website become dynamic and effective.

Users’ Perception of Library Website of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG): A Survey

Library websites play an important role in the present era. The present study analyzes the use of Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library website of IIT, Guwahati. A questionnaire was prepared and distributed to 150 students of IIT, Guwahati randomly, out of which 147 duly filled-in questionnaires were received. It shows that all the respondents have awareness of both the institution website and library website. Majority of the respondents use the library website for accessing library resources, library services and study materials. 44.90% of the respondents feel that a special training on the use of library website will be useful.
