Trade performance of Indian cashew was analyzed by collecting secondary data on export of cashew kernels, Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) and import of raw cashew nuts for the years 1974-75 to 2007-08. The growth rate of kernel exports was 5.37 per cent with instability index of 8.70 per cent and the export of CNSL was 6.15 per cent with instability index of 41.92 per cent during the post-liberalization period was observed. Among the different countries, USA is a stable market for Indian cashew kernel and CNSL. Further, export potential is to be tapped by creating brand or image loyalty in the potential markets abroad.
Pattern of foreign trade and export competitiveness of Indian cashew
CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research - Zenodo, 2022
The Indian Cashew industry provides employment to more than 5 lakh people both directly and indirectly, particularly in the rural areas. The total earnings from export of cashew kernel and cashew nut shell liquid have increased from 2,053.49 crores in 2000-01 to` 5,488.66 crores in 2014-15. India is facing tough competition from Vietnam and Brazil in the exports of Cashew Kernels. The NPC for the period 2015-16 under exportable hypothesis USA, UAE and Netherlands were 0.85, 0.93 and 0.87 respectively and they were less than one, which also revealed that the domestic prices received by the farmers were lower than the international prices, which also implied that the domestic producers were dis-protected or rather taxed compared to a situation prevailing under free trade condition. USA was one of the most stable country among the major importers both of Indian cashew kernel and cashew nut shell liquid as indicated by the high retention probability of 0.765 and 90.10% respectively. The major competitors for India in the world market are Vietnam and Brazil. A dependency on one or two export market would increase the trade risk in the near future. Hence, appropriate export promotion strategies are to be evolved to diversify the geographical concentration.
Problems and Prospects of Cashew Cultivation in India -An Overview
International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences, 2018
Cashew, a perennial tree well known as „poor man‟s crop‟ is a source of highly priced cashew nuts. India being the leading producer, consumer and second largest exporter of cashew in the world, has a prime position in cashew trade in the world market. But the productivity level of Indian cashew is far less than that of its close competitors viz., Vietnam, Nigeria, Cote de‟Ivoire, Philippines etc. The cashew processing sector in India is one of the largest in the world and has given huge employment to rural people especially the women folk. Some of the cashews processing industries in India are still under unorganized sector. Increasing demand for the nuts has necessitated the increased production. The present review is an attempt made towards understanding the Indian cashew industry in relation to its position in the global market, problems being faced by the cashew industry and the scope in future.
Export of cashew kernel from india: its direction and prediction
Cashew is one of the most important dollar earning crops of the country. The quantity of export of cashew kernel had registered a growth of 5.71% per annum. This was made possible both due to increased export to countries of import and changes in composition of India's cashew kernel exports to various destinations. The paper quantifies the changing structure of cashew kernel exports in order to understand the dynamics of changes and the growth rate analysis. The growth rate analysis reveals that, UAE shows the highest growth rate and the countries like USA, Netherland, UK show the negative growth rates. The markov chain model was used to assess the transition probabilities for the major cashew kernel export from India. The result revealed that, the country USA was the highest probability of reduction (0.87) compare to all other countries. The forecasted values for, the countries UAE and 'other countries' show the increasing trend and the countries like USA, UK, Netherland, Japan and France show the decreasing trend.
The trend in Area, Production, Productivity of Cashew Nut in India with Special Reference to Kerala
Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics & Sociology, 2022
Aims: Cashew is one of the most valuable processed nuts on global commodity markets and has the potential to generate employment and revenue for developing countries. India is the second largest exporter of cashew kernels in the world and earns a sizeable amount of foreign exchange. In India, cultivation of cashew is confined to Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra along the west coast and Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal along the east coast. Cashew trees tend to be grown on marginal and less fertile land and may continue to produce for many years without the intensive inputs and labour that other crops require. Considering the promising future of the cashew market, the study aimed to analyse the trend and pattern of the cashew area, production and productivity in Kerala. Methodology: For the purpose of the study, secondary data were collected for the period of 2000 – 2020 (20 years) from authenticated source like Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Res...

A STUDY ON THE MARKETING OF CASHEW INDUSTRY IN INDIA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TAMILNADU
iaeme, 2013
Marketing in respect of cashew involved several players and channels. Marketing begins from the sale of raw cashew nuts by farmers and reaches the level of exporters/ retailers for selling of processed and graded kernels to the ultimate consumers. The sample cashew growers sold a major portion of the produce to local traders, who in turn supplied the nuts to large traders and processing units located in Kollam (Kerala), Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu), Mangalore (Karnataka), etc. There are several entities in the marketing channels that get good share in the total spread between the producer and consumer. This Section analyses in detail the marketing aspects of raw nuts and kernels in the study area.
The globalization has provided dual impact as one is with inculcating number of opportunities to various countries but another is with throwing challenges before developing countries as well as underdeveloped countries. The globalization has made an impact on the trade of different agricultural commodities like cashew. The cashew trade has an important contribution in India's international trade. India is major player in the international cashew market. The present research paper highlights the asymmetries in India's foreign trade of cashew in respect of cashew production, import & export in the context of globalization. The globalization has an impact on the cashew-nut industry in India as well as some other countries. The asymmetries are increasing in Indian Cashew-nut industry.
PRESENT STATUS OF CASHEW NUT PROCESSING MACHINES
Cashew is highly appreciated in a large number of countries and cultures. The cashew nut world production in 2000 was estimated at 2 million tones of nuts – in-shell, with an overall estimated value exceeding 2 billion USD. India is the largest cashew processor in the world. Export of cashew nut shell liquid from India stood at 11,677 million tonnes (MT), valued at US$ 9 million in 2015-16, while exports of cashew kernels stood at 96,346 MT, valued at US$ 756 million. Export earnings from cashew and allied products during FY 2015-16 stood at US$ 765 million. India accounts for about 65 per cent of global cashew exports. India exports cashew kernels to over 60 countries. Its major markets are the US,, the UK as well as Middle East countries such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The US is the largest market for Indian cashew kernels, followed by the UAE and the Netherlands, while Indian Cashew nut shell liquid is largely exported to South Korea, followed by China and the US. The cashew industry ranks third in the world production of edible nuts. The major exporters of cashew in the world are India and Brazil with 60% and 31% respectively of the world market share. The major cashew nut importers are the United States (55%), the Netherlands (10%), Germany (17%), Japan (5%) and the UK (5%). Cashew kernels are ranked as either the second or third most expensive nut traded in the US. Also process of cashew nut is very much important as to improve production rate. Now days there are various machineries used to save the time and to improve the quality. The Industries are using manual, Semi-Automatic and fully automatic machineries to increase the production rate. But In conventional process, it takes more time to complete operation and hence production rate is very low. Thus to reduce human injuries in conventional methods and to increase the production of cashew nut the present study has been studied.
