In contrast to a large body of literature showing the positive impact of customer involvement in really new innovation, this article portrays a failure. Using an inductive research design to examine data collected over four years, the authors analyze the case of a start-up that produced and marketed hi-tech equipment. Although the start-up firm was initially successful, it faced difficulties under the influence of “ostensible customers” who provided insights that were counterproductive in the process of really new innovation. The start-up experienced a downward spiral that ended in product, business, and organizational failure.

ABSTRACT: This interpretative article, performs a reflection about the idea and the position of women in the work of Cioran not only from a female perspective but from the particular cultural situation of the author of this paper. Starting from several texts from the Romanian-French writer, women’s issues is analyzed into two areas determined by Cioran: the first-one, prostitution and its relationship to philosophy and, the secondone from their reflexions about saints.

Literature on Business Models (BMs) has grown very rapidly since the beginning of the 21st century, and although the theoretical and empirical literature has developed significantly, the number of practical and management-oriented studies remains relatively low. A recent debate in the field has focused on the definition of BM invariants: (1) sensing customer needs, (2) creating customer value, (3) sustaining value creation, and (4) monetizing value. Extant empirical studies have mainly focused on Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) and successful BMs; however, this study concentrates on the failure of BMs in the case of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). An important source of a BM’s failure is the misalignment between MNE and SME involved in an acquisition. Looking through the lens of the four BM constants, the aim of this study is to examine the case of the acquisition of Domestic Heating (an SME) by Ventilair (an MNE). Although both separate entities were achieving good results and each had a specific BM, the acquisition produced poor results mainly due to the misalignment of the two BMs. Our findings lead us to make recommendations to practitioners on avoiding BM misalignment during an acquisition. We encourage practitioners to enhance communication, promote organizational experiments, acknowledge specificities of both entities, foster employee commitment, and ensure homogeneity in IT system usage.

For both theoretical and practical reasons, it is necessary to have better understanding of the roles of intermediaries in triple helix relationship in developing countries where systemic failures are much larger and persistent than developed countries. This study compare successful and failure cases in the food industry operated by Industrial Technology Assistance Program (ITAP) of Thailand’s National

This paper has been inspired by the study of the complex data set from the Czech National Grid MetaCentrum. Unlike other widely used workloads from Parallel Workloads Archive or Grid Workloads Archive, this data set includes additional information concerning ma- chine failures, job requirements and machine parameters which allows to perform more realistic simulations. We show that large dierences in

Diverse working and protection paths are used in telecommunication networks to increase survivability and availability in case of faults. In selecting these diverse paths, it is important that the two paths do not share any links that share the same risk. This is done by assigning each link to a Shared Risk Link Group (SRLG). In this paper, we extend this concept to nodes and domains. Diverse paths should not pass through nodes that can both fail together, for example, by being located in the same building. Similarly, for a higher level of survivability, diverse paths may not pass through network domains that share the same risk. Domains are defined as subnetworks with common administrative control, technology, or geography. Shared Risk Group is an extension of the SRLG concept that avoids not only link level risks but also node and domain level risks. We demonstrate how to use the transport network diversity using this concept while computing application level diversity in a multi-...

Some of IS development projects have a bad reputation for going over budget and schedule, not realizing expectations and so providing poor return on investment. This research is designed to identify the main causes for IS development project failure at Post-construction phase, the technical and final post-construction activity, and applying it to the Framework for Governance of Post-Construction activities in IS development Projects in Egypt. Interviews with Project Managers and stakeholders during deployment phase were conducted. Data gathered from interviews were analyzed and corroborated with previous surveys and case studies on IS development projects failure and projects success at implementation phase. A framework are developed and tested for governance of successful IS development projects implementation, by governance of Post-Construction activities in IS development Projects. Keywords:

In this paper, the authors will present the state of the art about product and process assessment for remanufacturing of computer controlled automotive components (mechatronics) – by giving an insight into their current research activities in the area, including theoretical analyses, field studies in the car electronic remanufacturing industry, contract research for professional car mechatronic remanufacturers, experimental work in the laboratories of the Chair of Manufacturing and Remanufacturing Technology at the University of Bayreuth.
