Background Vascular prevention trials typically use dichotomous event outcomes although this may be inefficient statistically and gives no indication of event severity. We assessed whether ordinal outcomes would be more efficient and how to best analyse them. Methods Chief investigators of vascular prevention randomised controlled trials that showed evidence of either benefit or harm, or were included in a systematic review that overall showed benefit or harm, shared individual participant data from their trials. Ordered categorical versions of vascular event outcomes (such as stroke and myocardial infarction) were analysed using 15 statistical techniques and their results then ranked, with the result with the smallest p-value given the smallest rank. Friedman and Duncan’s multiple range tests were performed to assess differences between tests by comparing the average ranks for each statistical test. Results Data from 35 trials (254,223 participants) were shared with the collaborati...

We study the problem of allocating multiple objects to agents without transferable utilities, where each agent may receive more than one object according to a quota. Under lexicographic preferences, we characterize the set of strategyproof, non-bossy, and neutral quota mechanisms and show that under a mild Pareto efficiency condition, serial dictatorship quota mechanisms are the only mechanisms satisfying these properties. We then extend quota mechanisms to randomized settings, and show that the random serial dictatorship quota mechanisms (RSDQ) are envyfree, strategyproof, and ex post efficient for any number of agents and objects and any quota system, proving that the well-studied Random Serial Dictatorship (RSD) satisfies envyfreeness when preferences are lexicographic.

Data and algorithmic modeling are two different approaches used in predictive analytics. The models discussed from these two approaches include the proportionalodds logit model (POLR), the vector generalized linear model (VGLM), the classification and regression tree model (CART), and the random forests model (RF). Patterns in the data were analyzed using trigonometric polynomial approximations and Fast Fourier Transforms. Predictive modeling is used frequently in statistics and data science to find the relationship between the explanatory (input) variables and a response (output) variable. Both approaches prove advantageous in different cases depending on the data set. In our case, the data set contains an output variable that is ordinal. Using grade records from Murray State University, the goal is to find the best predictive model that can implement an ordinal output by means of data modeling and algorithmic modeling. To train the models, k-fold cross validation is used to find t...

The present work search to study the regression on variables dummies. More specifically, to revise the theory and the cases where they can be used, in order to elaborate, in a succinct form, a simple and including material on the subject, capable to assist in research and works. After the formalization, will present the operational procedures to execute them, with aid of computational resources, using in such a way, the Statistica software version 5.1. Key-Words: Regression, Variable Dummy, Statistica Software.

Besides fertility and mortality and the balance between the two, migration also injluencespopulation development in terms af size, sex and age composition. Through theanalysis af population development in Hungary, this paper investigated the role afinternational migration in demographic processes. Wehave followed closely the processin which, after the demographic catastrophes in Hungarian history (1239-1290and 1550-1650), the missing population was replaced by foreigners settling down inHungary. The role played by this settled population has been examined as well. Wehave outlined the ejfects ofthe third demographic disaster (1914-20), which has determinedthe development af Hungarian population up till the present day. As a consequenceaf the peace treaties at the end af World War I Hungary lost two-thirds of itspopulation, thereby changing the structure af the population profoundly. Besides theabove-mentioned processes we have demonstrated the direct and indirect ejfects afcontempora...

The Context Change Potential Model of presuppositions, due to Heim, Kartunnen and Stalnaker, is examined in the light of recent work in dynamic semantics. It is shown that some phenomena concerning the interaction of presupposition and quantification, which had been thought troublesome for the Context Change Model, can be handled without invoking local or intermediate accommodation. A model of global accommodation is developed, and this is applied to a number of pragmatic issues including the ...

Modelization of Ordinal Competences in 3 to 6 Years Old Students In this paper we present a developmental model of ordinal competence which consists of 6 empirically validated states of knowledge. An exploratory empirical study was carried out with individual clinical interviews. The aim was to analyze children’s knowledge about the logical-ordinal relationship of the imm...

In ordinary talk, we presuppose a great deal. That is, we take things for granted, assuming that the other conversational participants share our knowledge of them. This book is about linguistic presupposition, how what we take for granted is reflected in what we say. In the book I first explore what around a hundred previous researchers have had to say about presupposition, and then make my own contribution. That contribution is set within the framework of dynamic semantics, an approach to meaning that has been developed ...

It is proven that there is a family of sets of natural numbers which has enumerations in every Turing degree except for the recursive degree. This implies that there is a countable structure which has representations in all but the recursive degree. Moreover, it is shown that there is such a structure which has a recursively represented elementary extension.

Presupposition itself has been a cause of the diversity of interpretations since presupposition sticks to utterances, sometimes unsaid clearly, that will provide implied meanings based on the context that is being talked about. The purposes of the study are to investigate three major points: the kinds of presupposition, their functions, and the percentage of each presupposition in the mystery and thriller film script of "Escape from Pretoria" by Francis Annan. This research used a qualitative method to analyze the obtained data. The observation is also used to collect data in which data are obtained from film scripts. The writer applies Yule's theory (1996) to analyze the presupposition kinds, Halliday's theory (2003) to analyze presupposition functions, and Subana's formula to gain the percentage of each presupposition. As a result, there were 177 presuppositions obtained in the film script, with 166 existential presuppositions (93.8%), six factive presuppositions (3.4%), four lexical presuppositions (2.2%,) and one counterfactual presupposition (0.6%). From 177 presuppositions, the data were classified into 23 regulatory functions (13.0%), 2 interactional functions (1.1%), 57 representational functions (32.2%), 79 personal functions (44.6%), 1 imaginative function (0.6%), 4 instrumental functions (2.3%) and 11 heuristic functions (6.2%). Therefore, the dominant presupposition is existential, and the dominant function of presupposition is personal.

In this paper we use the version CPA game prism of the Covering Property Axiom, which has been formulated by Ciesielski and Pawlikowski and holds in the iterated perfect set model, to study the relations between different kinds of ultrafilters on ω and Q. In particular, we will give a full account for the logical relations between the properties of being a selective ultrafilter, a P-point, a Q-point, and an ω1-OK point.
