The aim of this exploratory study was to consider how spirituality (encompassing meaning, hope and purpose), may facilitate family resilience after spinal cord injury (SCI) over time. Research Method/Design: A qualitative, longitudinal study design was adopted. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 family dyads (consisting of the individual with SCI and a nominated family member) on 2 occasions, 6 months apart. A thematic analysis was conducted. Participants reported drawing upon a range of different sources of spirituality, including religious faith, the natural world, inner strength, and meaningful connectedness with others. These sources of spirituality were often tested in some way after the SCI. Meaning-making responses to these tests were linked with 3 key outcomes: gratitude, hope, and deeper connectedness with others, assisting families to move forward in their journey after SCI. Over time sources of spirituality did not change significantly; however, the intensit...

The current article describes critical issues in adapting traditional group-treatment methods for working with individuals with reduced cognitive capacity secondary to acquired brain injury. Using the classification system based on functional ability developed at the NYU Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (RIRM), we delineate the cognitive and interpersonal capabilities that differentiate group-participation capacity.

Aim: This study attempts a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analysis of un-annotated bibliographic listing of books and citations compiled on specific learning disability published by researchers in India. Method: An online and offline survey covering ISSN journals and ISBN marked books available in print or electronic media was compiled, coded, categorized, and classified by title, theme, year, journals, and names of author/s. Results: The bibliographic search yielded 450 research articles drawn from 196 national and international journals of Indian origin and 29 book titles on the topic of learning disability and/or its equivalents covering themes related to their nature-characteristic (N: 184; 40.89%), therapy-intervention (N: 115; 25.56%), causes-correlates (N: 57; 12.67%), screening-assessment-identification (N: 52; 11.56 %), and epidemiology-prevalence (N: 42; 9.33%). A decade wise timeline analysis shows an increasing trend in the quantum of publications on learning disability by almost four times from the base years of <=1990s to the contemporary period, along with corresponding shift in the increased use of the term 'learning disability' in preference for other older terms (p:<0.05). Conclusion: On the whole, there seems to be much unused information available about learning disabilities in the country, which now lies widely scattered. Limitations & Recommendation: Although no claim is made that the bibliographic listing is all inclusive, it is recommended that the first step is to have an information gathering mechanism, creation of a dynamic repository, or archival system with retrieval systems in place for prospective researchers on a subject matter of great importance within the country.

As one of the oldest psychology specialties active in interdisciplinary medical centers and health and public policy, rehabilitation psychology focuses on the optimal adjustment of individuals with disabilities, their families, and
primary support systems. The wide array of circumstances confronting individuals with disabilities demands a
broad skill set and flexibility in the rehabilitation psychologist’s approach. Throughout its 50-year history, the field has been shaped and informed by theory and research drawn from other academic and practice areas of
psychology including social, clinical, and counseling psychology, rehabilitation counseling, behavioral
neuroscience, and neuropsychology. This rich heritage contributes to the specialty’s resilience and potential to
address current challenges facing American health care, including the aging of the baby boom generation and the
unprecedented numbers of wounded veterans returning to society with injuries that may require life-long services.

Recent research has led to significant progress in the assessment and treatment of sleep disturbance in older adults. Similar advances have been made with sleep disorders secondary to age-related chronic illness. The assessment and treatment of sleep disorders encompasses numerous behavioral aspects. Thus, rehabilitation psychologists are ideally positioned to help apply these new advances to the growing number of older

‘Autism’ or ‘Autism Spectrum Disorder’ is a neurological condition characterised by impairments in social interaction, difficulty in communication, and repetitive or stereotypic interest or behaviour patterns that interfere significantly with the normal functioning of an individual. There has been a wide variety of treatment approaches on the road to practice, yet behaviour therapy remains to be one of the key foundations of psychological care and management for children or adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Behaviour modification techniques could be used effectively for regulating the behaviour patterns of young children in order to enhance their future life conditions. This Paper describes a case which is diagnosed as Autism Spectrum Disorder and the application of Behaviour Therapy.

Wojciech Otrębski, Katarzyna Mariańczyk, The transition of pupils with intellectual disability from education onto the labour market – the parent’s perspective. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, No. 20, Poznań 2018. Pp. 59–89. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X INTRODUCTION: The interactive model of vocational rehabilitation includes two key components: the rehabilitated individual and the vocational rehabilitation environment. The interaction of these two elements should contribute to the improvement of vocational competencies of people with disabilities1. Due to the fact that parents are considered to be the second main contributors (just after teaching staff) of vocational training as well as life and vocational orientation of children and teenagers2, the family environment can be treated as a significant part of the vocational rehabilitation of people with intellectual disability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to discover how parents of individ...

Inspired from the movement of positive psychology, appreciative inquiry (AI) contributed immensely and continues to do so in organisational development (OD) from every aspect. As it is driven by the strength-based possibility-focused thinking approach, rather than the deficit thinking approach of problem solving inquiry method, appreciative inquiry helps in creating an overall positive environment in the organisation (practice of positive OD). The scope of appreciative inquiry, thus, is not only limited to organisational problem diagnosis and therapeutic realm, but has also spread out its wings in communication and relation building, change management, development programmes, and many more. This chapter, hence, has tried to emphasise and briefly discuss appreciative inquiry's vast scope, contribution, and positive approach in the sphere of organisational development.
