For nearly two decades, writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson went to a dark place. He dealt with corrosive, perverse characters in �There Will Be Blood,� �The Master,� �Inherent Vice,� and �Phantom Thread,� presenting grim conduct and bleak situations of domestic and psychological endurance.
