This is the Western Continent of the planet

The Western Continent is called The Western Land
It is about 6000 miles in length (About the size of Asia)
It is comprised of several regions

I The Valo Hills Mainland
The Valo Hills Mainland is one of the most fertile areas of the continent and a major breadbasket.
It consists of grassy hills, savannas and small scattered woods.

The primary economy here is farming and animal husbandry.
Although there are cities, there are very few tall buildings.
Outside of the main cities are small villages, farms and ranches.

Rivers are used extensively for irrigation, fishing and commerce.
There is a strong sea faring tradition along the coasts.

II The Valo Hills Peninsula
The Valo Hills Peninsula is one of the most fertile areas of the continent and a major breadbasket.
It consists of grassy hills, savannas and small scattered woods.
The region boasts the continent's largest animals, most of which are mammalian.
The primary economy here is farming and animal husbandry.

Although there are cities, there are very few tall buildings.
Outside of the main cities are small villages, farms and ranches.
There are also tribes of nomadic herdsmen who live much the way their ancestors have.

Rivers are used extensively for irrigation, fishing and commerce.
There is a strong sea faring tradition along the coasts.

III The Red Mountains
Located sout of the Valo Hills mainland, The Red Mountains stretch across nearly entire Western Continent.
The area consists of mountain ridges, valleys, plateaus and river basins.

The mountains of this region are similar to the Appalachian Mountains in height, ranging up to 2500 meters.
They are famous for their striking red color and even the plants and animals are reddish in color.
Although the region is arid, some of the mountains have dense vegetation.

The mountains are rich in ores and gems and a lot of mining takes place.
The sands here are also red and the region is well known for its glassware.
The red furs, wool and leathers from the region are extremely popular.

For thousands of years the Red Mountains have been the middlemen in the trade routes between the Valo Hills and the rest of the continent.
As a result of the constant commerce, cities are very cosmopolitan and there is a rich mix of cultures.

IV The Golden Sands
The Golden Sands completely surrounds the Dune Sea and covers much of the continent.
It is so named because of the bright golden color of its sands.
It is a hot desert similar to Earth's Sahara.

The temperatures routinely top 100ºF
It averages about three inches of rain per year.

There are no large rivers but there are many oases, streams and shallow river beds
that fill during the brief rainy season.
The waters support varied vegetation, including trees, grasses and flowers.

Nlian civilization began here and the region boasts the continent’s largest cities.
There are also many nomadic tribes that live much as their ancestors did thousands of years ago.

V The Dune Sea
The Dune Sea is a large region located in the center of the Continent.
It is a shifting sand desert, similar to Earth’s 'Empty Quarter', but much larger.
It consists of hundreds of miles of sand and stationary dunes.
Some dunes are hundreds of meters high and hundreds of miles long.
The area is also known for its huge sandstorms and spectacular sand falls.
In the western areas of the Dune Sea the terrain is more rugged and there are large rocky formations

The Dune Sea has the hottest temperatures on Nlia and in some areas it hasn't rained for centuries.

There are ten large oases regions.
Aside from these oases, the only sources of water are wells and small water holes too small to support permanent settlement.
Even at oases there is very sparse vegetation, none of which come higher than the waist.

In other regions one can find towns/ villages outside of the main cities
In the Dune Sea, outside of the oasis cities, one will find nothing but small bands of nomadic tribes.
The Dune Sea is the best place to see Nlia untouched by the hand of progress.

The Dune Sea is the harshest area of the planet, and its inhabitants are the most skilled at desert survival.
Even city dwellers are trained from childhood in desert survival and absolutely NOTHING is ever wasted or thrown away.

The Dune Sea is famous for its spectacular night sky and its here where the stars shine brightest.
Many famous astronomers and spacefarers had hailed from this region

VI The Sunlo Canyons
This region is about the size of Australia.
It is comprised of striking canyons, deep gorges and ravines.
It also has open areas with huge mesas and stand alone rock formations and towers.
Although the region is arid with low rainfall there are two rivers and many oases and springs
The region is rich in various ores and minerals
Mining takes place but is carefully managed in order to preserve the environment and done exclusively underground.

VII The Southern Tips
The Southern Tips are three peninsulas in the southwestern edges of the Western Continent.
They are located south of the Sunlo Canyons

The peninsulas consist mainly of mainly of grasslands and hills along the coastline.
They have several species of unique trees and are known for their vivid dyes.

Aside from the Valo Hills, the Tips are the most fertile area of the continent.
Farming settlements are inland while cities are concentrated on the coasts and heavily into the sea trade.

All of the citiy states here are known for their large merchant fleets which travel to every port ciy on Nlia.
Caravans never stop and the heaviest land trade comes from the Sunlo Canyons

The cities of the Tips are known for being very luxurious and the citizens for their culture and sophistication.
A unique purple stone is abundant in the area and most buildings here are colored in shades of purple

VIII Crystal Bay
This region is centered around Crystal Bay which is east of the Sunlo Canyons.
Its consiss of a peninsula which has highly fertile grasslands .
The mainland area is also fertile with two tiny lakes and rivers

IX Small Isle
Small Isle is Nlia's second smallest island
It is famous for its white sand beaches and the quality of its sands are among the finest on Nlia.
The island is mostly grassland but there are fernlike trees near the coasts.
Many plants here have powerful medicinal properties.
