Holiday Card Project 2021 Wrap-Up!Jan 14, 2022The 2021 Holiday Card Project was a smashing success — receiving 1,748 cards submitted from nearly 1,500 deviants around the globe! Since 2004, the Project has had the goal of spreading holiday cheer to hospital patients. In the interest of public health, DeviantArt made the pivot to digital submissions of cards for 2021. As a result, we teamed up with California Hospital Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in greater Los Angeles, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and partner facilities of Dignity Health Southern California who all had the ability to display cards digitally. It is a privilege to know the DeviantArt community has helped to spread some holiday cheer to people who need it most. Amber Chavez, Special Programs Coordinator at CHOC, remarked that “the patients and families loved it! LiteratureMy thoughts on AI-generated images Introduction For some time the community has been agitated by the arrival and the massive wave of images generated by Artificial Intelligence. Some are fervent and enthusiastic users and others see it as a danger for artists in general as well as an ethical gap. Many accounts have emerged surfing on this wave while others, sometimes installed for years have chosen to close their doors. Some rejoice, others deplore it. In short, this is a hotly debated topic. As a hobbyist I certainly do not have the constraints of professional artists and I do not need to live from my art. I work in a completely different branch and my income does not depend on my artistic creations and finding clients. Yet, I cannot live without making art at my modest level. It is more for me a personal need, dare we say it spiritual even. I need money to feed me, house me, etc like everyone else but I also need art to feel complete, happy and probably recognized. What's your favourite artwork you made, and why?Jul 30, 2024I haven't been on dA much these days, pouring my heart and soul (and all my time) into my costume, but I thought I'd drop by again. One of the woes of being an artist on the internet is that any of your art that isn't brand-new is unlikely to get much love. While that makes some sense- there's a lot to love out there, and it's nice that all artworks get a chance when they're fresh off your hands- it also means some of our best artworks often don't get much time to shine after. So that's why we're here, at my excuse to give away my fragments in the form of diamond badges before they expire. Bit bummed, I had been saving them for special occasions to unexpectedly brighten up someone's day, but I won't encounter enough of those in the next month, especially not with my current level of activity. An Animal Drawing Contest... with a twist!Jun 15, 2024The winners have now been announced! The deadline has passed and the contest is now over. Those of you who follow me know I draw animals, and that I'm (among others) a stock and resources CV - and that I host contests every once in a while. And now it's time to merge all these three into one :la: In this contest, I want you to draw or paint an animal. However, you need to use at least one stock image from DeviantArt in your artwork somehow. "Using" in this case means using the photo as a reference (for traditional or digital art), or using it directly (for photomanipulations). The stock image doesn't need to be of the animal themselves - it can also be used in the background, as part of the scenery, etc. You're obviously free to use multiple images in one artwork - if anything, that will give you bonus points :dummy: The rules To enter, you have to follow the instructions above.
