The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) manages more than 50,000 miles of California's highway and freeway lanes, provides inter-city rail services, permits more than 400 public-use airports and special-use hospital heliports, and works with local agencies to keep California moving. More than the road workers, we are California’s transportation infrastructure; established in 1895, Caltrans has been active in moving the people and commerce of California and continues to model the way in innovative transportation systems. 🔥 Caltrans Tree Crews Respond to Wildfire Damage in Southern California Caltrans tree crews tackled recent wildfire recovery on Highway 330 near Big Bear this year after the Line Fire scorched nearly 44,000 acres. The Maintenance Office of Strategic Management put together the following video to show how Districts 7, 8 and 12 worked together to clear damaged vegetation and strengthen landscape resilience along this vital route. Caltrans and the City of Sacramento celebrated the completion of a beautiful mural along 2nd Avenue in Sacramento with the help of Artists, Luis Campos-Garcia, Jose Lott and Shonna McDaniels as part of the Clean California State Route 99 Beautification Project. “These improvements continue the city’s great tradition of featuring beautiful local art as a way to rejuvenate the roadway and shared public spaces,” said Caltrans Director Tony Tavares. “Beautifying our highways through Clean California has bolstered community spirit and inspired residents and visitors to take ownership of community cleanliness.” Thank you to all our partners for attending the ribbon cutting ceremony and celebrating this wonderful achievement.
