Happy National Public Lands Day! 🎊🌲⚒️🌄 Today, we invite you to join a nationwide community that's passionate about environmental conservation and celebrate our shared natural spaces through volunteering, learning, and engaging with your public lands. Let's work together for tomorrow! Find an event near you: https://lnkd.in/dSQ8vEua.#NPLD #NationalPublicLandsDay - The co-chairs of the National Service Congressional Caucus have a plan to strengthen and expand AmeriCorps. The Promoting Service through AmeriCorps Act – sponsored by Sen. Chris Coons, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui, & Congressman Garret Graves - will create more service opportunities, expand benefits to support recruitment and improve the member experience, and strengthen pathways to education and employment for all AmeriCorps members. Word on the trail is Sarah loves a sweet treat almost as much as she loves welcoming new faces to the ACC family! 😄Appalachian Conservation Corps #AmeriSmore #ACC #AmeriCorps #ConservationLegacy #PublicLandCorps
- Meet our Executive Directors of Conservation Legacy! 🌟 Say hello to Conservation Corps New Mexico’s own Tony Thomas! 🌵 Fun Facts about Tony: At age nine Tony taught himself every country in the world, all the U.S Presidents in chronological order, and all 50 states in alphabetical order. Tony then drew his own atlas by looking at his globe and named all the countries in 3 languages! World history also became an obsession, and he later created a website focused on history. 🥒 Favorite Snack: "Lay’s Dill Pickle flavored potato chips with a sprinkle of Tabasco sauce, paired with a chili dog topped with tiny diced onions. The ultimate junk food/comfort food combo!" Thank you for your leadership, Tony! We're thrilled to have you leading the Conservation Corps New Mexico team
- 📍 Carlsbad Caverns National Park Thanks to funding from the Great American Outdoors Act Legacy Restoration Fund, Conservation Corps New Mexico (CCNM) teamed up with master stonemason Bruce Wright to restore Carlsbad Caverns' historic stone guardrail along the 1934 entrance road and the batflight amphitheater. CCNM members learned hands-on skills in preservation, guided by Bruce’s expertise in a trade that’s becoming rare. Corpsmember Malcom Begay shared, “It motivated me to go beyond my limits and learn something new.” For corpsmember Rebeka Diosas, the project opened new career possibilities: “It broadened what I knew was possible.” Bruce says of the growth in these members: “They’ve gained skills and knowledge they can now pass on. Every morning we set goals, and they reach them.” Through efforts like this, we're not just preserving our parks but also nurturing the next generation of preservationists. 🌿 ⭐ Read the full highlight: https://lnkd.in/gUxc4C5K
