As the weather turns crisp, there’s no better way to embrace fall than a picnic at Virginia Museum of Fine Arts with The VA Foodies — a passionate collective of culinary enthusiasts who appreciate fresh, locally grown ingredients. 🥗✨ The VA Foodies, a team of Virginia Commonwealth University students who bonded over their love for all things delicious, crafted this perfect fall salad using our greenhouse-grown greens. 🎉🌎 97,240 pounds of organic material were diverted from landfills last month (and 851,475 pounds year to date)! Greenswell Growers is proud to partner with NOPE Compost Co., a commercial organics hauler that collects root systems and leftover peat from our growing operations for recycling into nutrient dense, locally-produced compost. A portion of the compost generated from N.O.P.E is then used to support local urban gardens and other area programs helping to fight food insecurity and provide healthy options to underserved communities.

A huge thank you to our friends over at Greenswell Growers in Goochland County, VA, for hosting Babylon’s CEO, Marc Oosterhuis, and the Horticulture Team on a tour of their impressive 77,000-square-foot indoor growing facility! Head Grower Gus Brennan guided us through an in-depth tour, explaining the various components involved in growing their delicious greens, including their seeding, growing, harvesting, and sanitation methods. Greenswell Growers’ automated hydroponic system enables year-round production while minimizing their ecological footprint through the use of recycled rainwater, waste composting, and a number of other environmentally beneficial practices- all while ensuring their customers receive nutritious produce. Greenswell Growers shares Babylon’s Mission: To harness innovative technology in service of local communities, produce crops sustainably, and educate future generations on the importance of sustainable agricultural practices.
